McCutchen to the Giants

Post by Yah Mule » Mon Jan 15, 2018 4:00 pm

I was fearful of this when I clicked his name @ 6/80 the other day.

Some Giants fans already complaining, so eager are they to strip down and rebuild. I don't blame an organization that won three titles in five years not that long ago wanting to take one more shot while MadBum and Posey are still at/near their primes.

Interesting article on si.com today about how the Pirates blew their opportunity to compete by failing to spend money on players to build around a young, affordable core:

Good article. I feel bad for Neal Huntington. He did a great job of cleaning up after the completely unqualified David Littlefield, but ownership has never supported him. He got hit with a lot of bad luck that was beyond his control the last few years. McCutchen's rapid decline, especially defensively; Cole and Taillion were beset by physical woes; Marte's 80 game suspension; Polanco's balky legs; Kang turns out to be a great hitter, but a terrible person. It's very hard to overcome this kind of stuff when you have cheap owners.

Now Harrison wants out....
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
