"To Be The Man..." $500 Auction 2018
You gotta beat the Man. Something no one in the entire NFBC community was able to do in the infamous "Come At Me Bro," Auction of 2017 when yours truly (as predicted) went wire to wire to win the league. RotoBoy is back and better than ever and since no one was up to the challenge last year the great Andy Saxton has created the

Dear Rotoboy,
When you are ready to graduate from the minor leagues to the major leagues, sign up for the $2,500 live NYC auction. That is where you will find me (and other sharks). I only have 1 FAAB league this year and that is the 1.
Signed,

There is a $500 Auction DC waiting for participants....
Re: "To Be The Man..." $500 Auction 2018
Typical response. It's one thing to say that, its another to call me out last year, criticize my methods, tell me I don't know what I'm doing and project my team to finish mid pack while I turn around and go wire to wire to win the league. If the players are the same, the price point means nothing.Gekko wrote:Dear Rotoboy,

You showed us... you obviously are struggling with some stuff. Best of luck to you and hope fantasy baseball is a welcome relief from it. Now get over having to always be the center of attention.Bjs2025 wrote:Typical response. Seeing how you beat me AND won the league last year, it appears there’s a new great white circiling the NYC watersChest Rockwell wrote:

Broke clock is right twice a day. That was my favorite nfbc win ever. Only win I have ever had that was not draft driven. End game and faab which is usually what distinguishes me from the great players like Lindy, Shawn, Dan and Andy, Jupinka, rotoboy, and yourself.Gekko wrote:Seeing how you beat me AND won the league last year, it appears there’s a new great white circiling the NYC watersChest Rockwell wrote:

Fuck that broke clock shit. You beat a very talented auction field. Although some luck is always needed to win, its mostly skillChest Rockwell wrote:Broke clock is right twice a day. Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I figure leading up to this draft, what better way to prep for it than revisiting some of the general auction strategy videos I put together last year. Some of the player analyses will be different because it's from last year but the general auction strategies will forever apply.
Here's one on the idea of position scarcity:

Today’s flashback prep video is about saves and how they are perpetually overrated , especially in a satellite league. Hotly debated topic annually. Count me as someone who hates the moniker “closer” as well as the entire stupid concept.

Re: "To Be The Man..." $500 Auction 2018
I'm interested to know this year if anyone out there plans for an auction to "build" their team around a specific player. Whether that be because you simply like the player, think he is about to break out, want a specific position filled, etc..
Obviously, you guys know I don't really care who is on my team, as long as I get them at the price I want, but I want to know...if there is a player you "Target" what are the reasons behind it?
I remember about 3-4 years ago I was listening to a notable Fantasy Player on a notable fantasy baseball podcast stating that his strategy in one of the Tout Leagues was to own Stephen Strasburg and Giancarlo Stanton and didn't mind going up to $90 to get them both. I consider this person usually very wise but completely do not understand strategies like that. Granted, Strasburg was largely thought to break out that year and Stanton is....well...Stanton but why pigeon hole yourself with a strategy like this?
Anyway, let me know your thoughts.

Today's video flashback is an analysis of all things auction strategy. There really is no need to spend an hour on the subject as there are only a few main principles to follow to generally be successful in auction drafts. Hint: It has everything to do with perceived value based on realistic projections. Hope you enjoy:

Excited for this boys. Good news is I think I've mastered the Mayberry Method/Lima Plan hybrid and plan on dominating this league as result.
May have more good news to report later this week or even tonight.

I have mastered the ability to maximize all 1:37 seconds of break time that Saxton offers during these things. Quite a feat to drop a deuce and get a new cold beer before restart.

I was quite clear that your smart phone works as a good backup plan. Some people didn't memorize the job aid that was provided apparently.Fourslot40 wrote:I have mastered the ability to maximize all 1:37 seconds of break time that Saxton offers during these things. People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.
