Draft Spots For Main Event Friday Morning!!

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Mar 08, 2007 3:33 am

Okay, I apologize for the slight delay, but we've been chasing a few credit cards these last two days and waiting for our final owners to get work days off. This has come together pretty well and we'll finish at 375 teams and 25 leagues among the four cities. Although it looks like only Chicago will have entirely full leagues, Chicago and Las Vegas should have 10 teams each in those final leagues, so we'll be in good shape.

We're going to take today to finalize everything and to pick the draft spots. If you want a good draft spot, you may want to start praying early afternoon today! :D We actually found a great random computer system that spits out the draft orders for us for each city and thus Tom can now pass the blame onto Microsoft or whomever invented this great piece of software. But it works like a charm (thanks UFS).

So draft spots will be picked today for the main event and the plan is to announce the draft picks tomorrow on the Message Boards around 10 a.m. CST. We'll post each city league by league and drag this out for everyone! :D Then Tom and I will go to the bar for lunch and a beer and let you folks chew on your draft spots. :D

Tom will begin posting the Auction League nomination orders today on the boards so that you folks in full leagues know who you're sitting next to. We have only one unfilled auction league and that's the $650 AL Auction League in Las Vegas (2 open spots). We'll probably hold off on the Ultimate League draft orders until at least tomorrow as we're scrambling to fill that third Ultimate Draft League.

Sound like a plan? Now start praying!! :D

Yahoo - I get to know my Auction Nomination position today!!! Yahoo!!!

Quick reminder please, does the reserve rounds for the auction start with team 1 or with the last team (12, 13, 15)?

Thanks,

Pete
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Thanks,

Pete Reserve rounds in the auction leagues start with 1 and are serpentine. The nomination process does not snake back from the end. Hope this helps.

Gents - I hate to ask, but better to ask now and know where this is heading than to feel like a kid the night before Christmas only to find out the Grinch stole it....

If we are not at 375 tomorrow morning, will we wait another day or so?

Curious minds need to know....

How does the random draft order generator handle KDS? Or is that all figured out manually later?

Seriously, though, thanks John for the hookup with that site. It worked incredibly well for the auction stuff we did today. I can't say I'm going to miss the old hat anytime soon. We're now in the 21st century. Pretty sweet.

What has been eliminated is Tom writing down the names on slips, cutting them out, drawing the names, and then figuring out one by one each slot.

When Greg and I were at one of the ballgames last weekend, I asked him how they did all this because I run leagues too and I was curious.

I offered them a solution to eliminate the above and they liked it.

For LV, Tom will have a list of the 135 names in an excel file, and then run the random number program that will list those 135 numbers randomly and he will cut and paste those numbers right next to each owners name, and then sort from 1 to 135 and each 15 owners will be in the same league and the KDS order is right there and much easier to process. (1-15 will be league 1, 16-30 in league 2, and so on, with the 1,16,31,46, etc getting first KDS choice)

I write all this as a disclaimer as I am in the event and want no guff when I finally get a #1 pick. :D :D

By any chance, is the old draft pick hat a hand-crocheted rastafarian cap? If so, that would explain a lot of things.

No, the first one was an MVPSportsbook.com hat from the first season of free giveaways!!! Then we went with a used and abused Upper Deck hat. That one is on the corner of Tom's desk where it will always stay. :D

I have a four-pack of Beck's beer on the corner of my desk!! :D Seriously, I do. Long story there, but a funny one. We may just finish those off tomorrow around noon!!! :D

Draft spots will DEFINITELY be announced tomorrow at 10 a.m. CST, giving everyone 8+ days to prepare for their draft spots. We did the right thing by waiting this extra day as we wrapped up all the bad credit card problems and got the right guys for those last spots. We will definitely have 375 teams for the main event and 25 full leagues. This has been a very, very good last two days.

10 a.m. CST. Not a minute earlier or a minute later!!! Just like on Draft Day as we don't wait for anyone!!! See ya tomorrow.
