What to expect w/10th pick

Post by St Louis Slugger » Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:51 am

I'm drafting from the 10th slot in a satellite league soon and was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas of who has been going around the 10th & 21st picks in the drafts already conducted. I have a short list of players of who I expect to get to choose from, but hoping to get some feedback. Thanks!

That's the pick I had... I wanted one of Utley, Beltran, then Santana.. if you can get one of those you are in business I think.. my backup plan was Miguel Cabrera (one of the few elite average guys, and far more reliable than Vlad in the health and runs departments). I ended up with Beltran

Hey Slugger. I'm in the same satellite league as you and I'm picking 2nd. I'd almost rather switch with you since it's a long time to pick again at #29. Good luck to you.....

Thanks for the info. I do like the three people that you were targeting. Was also thinking about David Wright, solid in all five categories. What kind of choices were available for your second pick and who did you end up getting?

Tim - picking 10th doesn't seem too bad(not such long runs between picks). Should at least be able to get two very good players to start with. Good luck to you also.

Each draft is like a box of chocolates so you never know what you are going to get, even in the 1st to rounds. I would say expect the unexpected. I do wonder though, if you are so concerned with the players who will be available in the first 2 rounds, where you really can't go wrong, how are you going to fare in the subsequent rounds like those 20++???

I picked 10th in a $250 satellite, and got Utley, then D. Lee, then M. Young, then Nathan. I was happy with those four.

Not really all that concerned about the first few rounds - just passing the time til my draft day. You are correct that the latter part of the draft is hopefully where all my prep time will pay off. Thanks for the post.

In the 2nd Round I was targeting Rollins with the backup plan of selecting a consistent high average guy (because they are hard to find) or best player available... Rollins was taken with the 12th overall pick in my league, but Holliday was still there so I took him instantly with no regrets. In the 3rd round make sure you target one of the remaining top SS because there is a big dropoff after them.. you might be able to get Furcal or Young (I wouldn't touch Guillen with his injury history).. then the 4th round I try to target an elite closer (Wagner, Ryan, KRod, Nathan) because they are far and away the most reliable and best of the closers and there WILL be a huge closer run between rounds 3-7

I see American Dreams had teh same strategy haha... it's all about where the players fall. I really like those picks you had as well (not as high on Lee but he could be great).. I ended up with Beltran, Holliday, Furcal, Wagner (KRod, Nathan, and Ryan all went before my 4th round pick!) oh, I originally wanted McCann with my 4th rounder but he went in the 3rd round! Huge catcher runs as well...
