sack. i disagree. 1st off- the rule is uniform. it is the same for everyone. it is also very clear. on top of that- it allows mlb to determine who is out and who isn't. what you want to to do is have 2 periods a week to change your lineup. that is one step closer to daily lineup changes. some of us don't want daily lineup changes. trust me- you are complainng about 3-4 days. someone else will then take up the baton for 1 day.

Call me a lazy SOB, but any move towards daily transactions would be a bad thing to me.

You wouldn't drop El Duque or Homer, but you might be less inclined to keep one of your CIW's. In almost every league, free agent hitters would become overly scarce.

Sack,
When I started this post I admit that I didn't consider the inequities you mention. I hear what you're saying but still think it's a good rule.
As long as there is a chance that Soriano can play next week, that puts you at an advantage over Podsy owners.
Let's say you could reserve him tomorrow, but read Thursday night that he is still day to day and might play this weekend, you'd probably keep him active.
Podsy owners have no such option.
If he does land on the DL Friday, that will suck. But I imagine these poor timing situations have a tendency to even out over the course of the season.

I'm also a lasy SOB. Too many loopholes with 2 lineups changes a week. Especially with pitchers. Some Owners would move pitchers in out of their lineups twice a week would not be a good thing for the NFBC..

Thanks NFBC staff for putting the DL moves in the rules.

I'm also a fan of the current format. I think most of the "haters" have been affected from injuries this year. It's a long season and I'm sure the DL rule will come in handy for you one day.

Greg, Can you show us via the stats how this rule helped teams last year? I'd like to know how many teams were able to benifit from exchanging players for three days. More important how many of those teams were able to put in a quality player and not some scrub who may have actually hurt thier them?

What I'm saying is that he isn't hurt bad enough for the Cubs to immediately place him on the DL, thus he won't be out 15 days like Podsednik is. You are right, they called up Felix Pie to play all this week. If they decide to protect Soriano by putting him on the DL on Friday night, then you are out 6 games. Pod's owners, I guess, got "lucky" by having him placed right on the DL, but it's not a good price to pay for three games.
We both understand the intent of the rule and sometimes it helps you and other times it might not. If Soriano goes on the DL tomorrow, this rule will help you. I know you well enough to realize you still won't like the application of this rule even if it helps you in this case, but this rule was put in place for exactly this example: Player gets hurt on Monday night and you get to replace him on Friday -- if he officially lands on the DL!

But as I explained last year, there were over 200 moves a week in the 30+ leagues (cuts and drops), which meant an average of 3-4 teams per league each week took advantage of this rule last year. I didn't look at the first two weeks of Friday moves, but I trust 2-3 teams per league used it. I can't tell you if those teams benefitted by their reserves playing for three games or if it hurt them, but the fact that so many teams per week used this rule was encouraging to me. And with so many leagues coming down to one stolen base or one win or one save or one of anything to decide the league title, I'm glad we give owners every chance to scratch and claw for every stat every day.

There is a tough balance at this price level between what is too much and what is not enough. For me, I know exactly what these early week injuries feel like. I could not place Troy Glaus on the DL in an Experts League I'm in because he wasn't on the DL by noon Monday and now I'm sitting with a lineup of zeros for the week. At least in the NFBC, you can move him out of your starting lineup on Friday and get some weekend production, something I can't do in that other league.
I can safely say that the majority of my customers don't want to make daily lineup changes or even twice weekly lineup changes. If that ever changes, I'll adjust to the times. Until then, there is a need to help with a mid-week injury rule. Maybe I don't have this one right. I'll keep looking it over and maybe there's something more I can do. But right now it takes about five minutes to evaluate each week and it can only help teams who unfortunately either 1) had an early week injury that was serious to one of their players; or 2) they forgot to bench a DL player at the start of the week and now can do that on Friday (trust me, it happens).

In the " Old Days ", this would not have been a big deal, back then these guys played through injuries. Today, the way these guys break down all the time , this amendmendment makes a Huuuuuge difference, and I can't see how it dose not benefit the league by having it. Great adjustment guys.

Greg, Thats the problem. Every stats means alot. Which means every owner should have the same chance. By setting the rosters once a week every owner is on a level playing field. The friday rule doesn't do that. In fact we got into a problem last year because teams didn't use the DL at the end of the season. I think it best to drop a rule that doesn't help but hurts.

The rule is the same for every player in the NFBC, so I don't follow. As for the end of the season rule, you are correct that MLB teams do not put players on the DL in September. This year we have placed a factor in the rules that allows us to assign players to an NFBC DL list in September if it's determined they are out for the year from an injury. So NFBC players will be able to use the rule more effectively this September than they were last year.

" The rule is the same for every player in the NFBC " by, G. A. .... And that's the Bottom Line, I don't understand why people continue to believe that ANY RULE benefits any team over another ? If we all play by the same rules , there is no advantage one way or the other, period. Now, the only reason to amend a rule should be to improve the "competition " of the league as a whole, and I believe this amendment dose exactly that. Am I missing something..?

It is called not letting someone get 5 grand or much less 100 grand that they did not deserve because you took your balls and went home because you are out of it. I have found most do not do that here which is great- and I hope if you ever join the main event that you get that concept before you do.

CR. are you saying that satellite participants, should not participate in discussions concerning the main event..? If that is a popular opinion, I'll be glad to keep my 2 cents to myself, I have no need to participate in discussions where I'm not welcome. I just did not know that was the case. I guess guys that don't play Major League Baseball shouldn't comment on the game, if they never played the game for that matter.

WW,
If you're out of it in August and you're still not fielding a competetive team realizing that it takes once a week or at most twice a week, then that's pretty sad. Why not just write a check for your teams at the beginning of the season and skip drafting?

Buck and CR.... I didn't say I would throw in the towel, I'm saying if you looked at that scenario, you would find that most teams do. Realistically speaking, if there is no incentive, other than playing the " spoiler role ", most teams will not be as interested in checking their line-ups when it has been determined they are out of the money. Now if you want to keep that kind of interest through out the season regardless of ones status, my suggestion would be to make it worth something. IE, weekly prizes for most points that period.

Hey, some of those UDA weekly prizes are pretty kickass!
In addition, there is a Lifetime Ranking for the main event. You can earn some pretty serious Street Cred for doing well there.
Finally, the NFBC should be looked at as a marathon. If you don't win, that doesn't mean you should stop running and go home. Try until the end -- at the very least, you'll keep abreast of the September activity and be better prepared for the following season.

Greg, I hope for the leagues' sake that is true, and You know much better than I if that's so. But I have read several times on this board where participants of the main event and satellites , have been concerned about the lack of interest when they see teams falling out of the race in their leagues and how that impacts the results as a whole. Now if you feel that is not an issue than, thats good enough for me, but if you are concerned about that, I have always found " Cash " speaks louder than , autographed paraphernalia, perhaps a combination of the two. Anyway, again, if this is not really that big of an issue , than there is no need for monetary incentive every week, if it is a concern than I'm just saying $$$ every week may be the answer.

" ALWAYS GO DOWN SWINGING "
I like the Friday DL rule
WW, I know this comparison has been beaten like a dead horse but the Main Event is not like your local $100 per man or Yahoo/Espn throw away league. The majority of the players here are hard core : 1) they want the $ prizes, 2) they want the notoriety of beating the best, 3) they just flat out want to bust heads. If they miss out on the above 3 then they will make it extremely difficult for anyone else to attain them.
The lifetime rankings are there for kicks but most here know the NFBC isnt going away and neither are they. You see the same faces year in and year out at the draft and while the previous seasons standings may be a blur what people WILL remember is whether you laid down like a dog or became a real tough out.
