Things I have learned about the NFBC in short time...

I look at my draft and I've found that my team is definitely pitching rich, but my offense has suffered because of that. I mean, this draft was brutal for me, I did not manage it well. I'm good at assessing players, I'm not very good at creating a balanced team.

Right now my offense is a dog. Horrible. Last place in homers. My stolen bases are low (I am really counting on B.J. Upton) no stolen bases as of yet.

My pitching is another story. Leading the league in e.r.a., whip and wins - 6th in K's - 10th in saves.

5th place so far. In the yahoo league I play in, yes, there are way more categories which takes some management skill, but it's always easy to find a guy in the FA list. In the NFBC, it's a different kind of monster. Less categories to manage, yet, it's hard to even find a starting position player on the FA list sometimes. 2 different leagues, both are very difficult in separate ways.

I do have some to learn, I don't think I have a lot to learn. I need to learn how to play within this system and within these categories which I'm not used to playing. I love this game and I think I can play against anybody. I think I should end up top 3 in my league come October 3rd, I hope things work out where I can win an entry to 2008 Main Event so I can compete against the "best".

We'll see. I got a couple guys in my league who are also in the Main Event who, I have to say, make incredible pickups on the FA. So, I can see right there what kind of skill I'm up against.

Next year, I will focus on offense early on, because creating a good pitching staff is my forte.

Staff is Schilling, Hamels, Hill, Sowers, Lowry, Gorzelanny and Peavy.

That's hard to beat.

Now checkout my outfield, Hamilton, Dukes, Alou, Floyd, Lind.

OUCH!

Next year will be different. I promise.

The funny thing is Alou is off to a great start, Hamilton is going to be a 25 homer 90 rbi guy this year, i missed the boat on Hamilton and am pissed, and Adam Lind will be up for a while.

So the way i look at it , it could have been much worse.You need Lind to start hitting and Floyd to get the at bats, and keep searching the waiver wire.

Kind of agree with Eddie. That's not the worst OF I've seen, and contrary to what you read OF is a short position. Very few have 5 good ones. It's early. You still have a great chance to cash in. Learn where you can. I always consider my first year in any new league a learning year. Not that you can't do well, but you'll learn stuff that will help for next year.

I had him on the benches of many leagues during his "top prospect" years...I think 3 or 4 years waiting for him...and just pulled the plug on him. They kept the drug problem pretty well under wraps. Had I known he was clean and sober and motivated...I would have jumped on him in all leagues...darn ESPN story on him came out a few weeks too late!!!

I picked up Dukes, Lind, Floyd.

Just checked back. My outfield for next week is Alou, Luis Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, Lind and Hawpe. Not great but has potential to be average (how's that for an assessment?)

My infield needs to heat up a little.

V-Mart at catcher

Iannetta (12th round OUCH) - reached for him big time - what happened?

1b - D-Lee (no power yet)

2b - Jeff Kent - (reached for him in the 6th round) please don't mention Kinsler

3b - Upton replaces Blalock

SS - Jeter

MI - Aurilia

Cl - Garko (replaces Shealy)

15 points in batting average

15 points for other 4 offensive categories combined.

I think I have 8 homers out of these guys.

Although this is the lineup for next week.

Lost bid on Church but I have reservations about him, I'd rather have Lind.

I haven't played in 13 years, and my top 6 on my staff are Peavy and Gorzelanny, Bonderman, Mussina (DL), Maine, and Blanton.

I guess what I am saying is that my staff is VERY comparable to yours, and I am betting my hitting is "a bit" better too. Why shouldn't your hitting be close?

Anyhow, I was just trying to say that we all have access to the SAME information, and that we should all have comparable teams (especially someone who was been playing for a while).

Fox,

I have Derek Lee in quite a few of NFBC leagues. I'm not worried about the power yet. Coming off of his wrist injury, I think he'll pick it up in late May/early June...should end season with about 35. His SB's will also be very helpful.

D-Lee has also been a slow starter his whole career save 2005. The fact that he's hitting for average and getting on-base is a great sign. I also agree with you about the stolen base bonus. In 2006 he had I think 8 stolen bases in the first 6 weeks. I really think he's going to steal 20 this year. We'll see.

If my offense gets going I think I have a real shot to win my league. I'm sitting with 60 points in pitching right now with 35 points in offense. My offense has certainly underperformed so far, but I think it has a chance to break out a little bit.

On a side note, it's amazing how much Chest gets his butt kissed on this website just because he finished 8th one year overall. I mean, it takes a long time to prove yourself. Everybody seems to bow down to him. This is the same guy who laughed at my Rich Hill pick in the 10th round and said "WAY TOO EARLY". "horrible pick".

Whatever. I'll be right there in the thick of things.

It seems that YOU feel your offense isn't, you had a brutal draft, and you're not very good at creating a balanced team.

That is why I thought you weren't producing. Last I checked, 4th place doesn't get you anything.

However, it is early!
