Maybe somebody can logically answerthis question for me on Billy Butler. At draft time the system had Billy Butler listed as a 3B, as seen in leagues where he was drafted. He just came up on my league's free agents and he is listed as an OF. I know it does not make a big difference in terms of individual leagues, but for the main event i think that it does. Team A playing him at a CI and I have to play him in the OF is a huge difference.
I know this topic on Butler was brought up before and he was suppose to have OF added, but 3B should not be taken away even if it was these by mistake, since he was eligable to be drafted there.

not sure how he could have been listed for 3B or CI, I think someone else posted on the other thread that he had 150 or so games in the OF last year and no games at 3B, nor should he even have a chance to get any this year with Gordon and Teahen ahead of him

I agree.
Unless we make a new rule that goes back 2 years...or uses the rumor mill to determine position eligibility...Billy is OF only.

Not questioning what he should be or should not be. I am saying is that if someone in LV4 drafted him as a 3B because that is what he was listed at, then he would need to stay there.
i.e. Round 25 you draft Butler and are told he is a 3B. You then dont concentrateon a proven Ci later in draft, only to find out 3 weeks in he is being switched to OF? not really fair.
So, if he is a 3B in one league he would have to be in all.
Or did they indeed switch Butler from 3B to OF a few weeks after the draft?

If you drafted Butler in the main event, that means you knew who he was and that he had star potential. I assume then that you also knew he was not a 3B, but played OF all last year in the minors. So, to me it boils down to, shouldn't you have known better?

Also why wait to ask the question until now? I do think the powers that be dropped the ball on this one- this has been asked several times. I think it finally got answered on these boards weeks ago, but I am positive I got the question answered on email a few weeks ago.

Or did they indeed switch Butler from 3B to OF a few weeks after the draft? Where did you see that he was 3B eligible in LV 4? On the stickers? Or did your facilitator tell you that? I believe that STATS may have had 3B next to him within the system, but that wouldn't have come into play on Draft Day.
Butler played with Gordon at Double-A last year and I am sure he played in the outfield. He's played in the outfield this year as well. He's playing left field right now for the Royals. So unless I missed something, he is currently eligible at OF in ALL NFBC leagues. Again, let me know where the confusion started or where we dropped the ball on Butler's eligibility and we'll figure out what happened.

I was only using LV4 as an example. I did however go back into the draft results pages and saw that in the leagues that he was drafted in, it was as a 3B. That is what the results show and that is also where he was listed as a free agent in my league, prior to the season starting and him coming off of the FA list.

Greg,
Good job my friend. Last night, prior to posting i did my homework to verify my thinking so i did not send any wrong info. I checked different leagues and saw in CHI 2 that PACO TYME had drafted Butler and he was a 3B. It looks like since then he has been changed on the draft boards as well. But it was definitly not like that last night.

Yes, as Chest said this was a wrong designation by STATS, but I tried to make it clear on the boards and to anyone who asked that Butler was OF-only eligible. And at the drafts, I didn't think he had a 3B sticker, so I was confused by your confusion. If it was from the STATS designation, then I understand and apologize. But nobody is getting him 3B-eligible today. Have you seen this guy in the field??? How could anyone picture him as a third baseman?
I love this kid's swing and UFS and I saw him this spring when he just peppered the ball. He's going to be a good hitter as long as the Royals can hide him in the field. Good luck the rest of the way and thanks for clarifying this.

Not that it matters anymore but Jonny Gomes (who since has been dropped) was listed as an outfielder for the draft, as soon as the season started he lost the OF tag making him strictly utility.
I hope this hasn't happened to too many people but it's a pretty big deal to have players drop their position designations as it could change your draft dramatically. Imagine drafting a 3rd baseman only to find out it's a utility guy and so on.

Owners should not get caught up in the position "next to the name of a player" as there are LF, CF, and RF desgnations. That tells me right there that something isn't right.
From my commish end of things, looks like these positions are there for other Stats Inc games as well. That's kinda bad design, but when you click on a player's name, you see very good design as a "2B" will show "2B/MI/UTIL" as his eligible NFBC positions.
The pull down menus seem to be correct and geared towards the NFBC game.

Can someone who actually drafted Butler clarify this question for me. After the draft and you looked at your team, was Butler a 3B or an OF. I could have sworn that he was a 3B prior to the season starting on my FAs available list.

Going back and looking at the message boards, I am correct. Butler was originally ( maybe in error) listed as a 3B in this league format. The posts from April 12th questioning this confirms it. IMO, even though it was in error, Butler should not have had 3B taken away but simply had OF added. I know this might give him added value but if a team made FAAB pickups by what they were seeing on their team, they should not be penalized.

A lot of us were in this same position, why are you just asking this question now? If you would have asked it weeks ago there would be no confusion.
As I said before error on the NFBC's part not clarifying sooner and missing the question asked a few times. However I know of a couple of people me included who pursued it and got an answer weeks ago.

Jason, we have to play according to the rules and in No. 4 you can clearly see how Butler earns qualification in the NFBC:
If a prospect didn't play at least one game in the majors last year and he makes the 2007 Opening Day roster, he will qualify at the position he played the most at in the minors in 2006 (i.e., Alex Gordon earns a roster spot with the Royals in the outfield, he would qualify at third base because that's where he played the most in 2006 at Double-A Wichita). Any minor-leaguer who didn't play any games in the majors in 2006 and who starts the 2007 season in the minors will earn position eligibility for 2007 based on his minor-league games played total in 2006 and he will earn other position eligibility after he plays 10 games at a different position in the majors.
Errors may occur online or on stickers at the draft or even on the MDC draft site for satellite leagues, but the rules govern how we play. In Butler's case, anyone who drafted him had to know the NFBC rules on his qualification. You are correct, there was some confusion about him in early April and we tried to make it clear what position he qualified at. If the site had him listed incorrectly, then there was a mistake online. But his eligibility for the contest is exactly what the rules state, which is OF.

Chest,
To answer your question and others as to why i am now asking the question, it is simply because Butler was not drafted in my league so until now I did not realize he was only an OF. If you go back to the post a few weeks back, the last clarification that was posted (by Tom) was that Butler should have OF eligability, and I took that to mean that OF was going to be added to the 3B eligibilty that he already had. It really has no determination on the amount that i will be bidding because I realize that I will probably need to bid a few hundred dollars to get him, and I think he will be worth every penny.
