Real MLB Observations

Having the MLB Extra innings package for the last 2 yrs, I now can see the players and know which managers I want my players to play for.

Last night Ervin Santana, while pitching in the 1st inning, struckout Hafner swinging, but the ball struck Hafners leg and bounced to the backstop. Because 1st base was occupied by Blake, hafner is out, and the ball should be dead with no further advancement by any runners:rule 6:08. The Angels staff has their head up their butt and don't protest Blake's advancement to second base as the ball went to the backstop. Of course, V Martinez singles, 1-0 Indians, one earned run for E Santana etc. Heck I knew that rule in High School. Either I'm anal or some of these guys are just fat and happy.

I love having the MLB package, mostly because I'm a Dodgers fan living in NYC, but it's also great for roto.

A couple years ago I was watching a Brewers game when Turnbow came in during the 8th inning. After watching him I thought there was no way this guy wasn't going to be the closer within a couple weeks so I picked him up in a few leagues. Sure enough he becomes the closer and goes on to have a solid season.

I'm sure other people have similar stories, but it's just cool to have to flip around, especially when you have your pitchers going.

I am confused by your interpretation.

Rule 6.08 is for batters who become runners. Since first base was occupied Hafner does not become a runner. The ball should not be dead and Blake is free to advance. What am I missing?

When the batter is touched by a pitched ball which does not entitle him to first base, the ball is dead and no runner may advance. But,I have Martinez so this one can slide.

I just can't understand how the entire Angels staff and the clueless broadcasters didn't pick up on this-- oh well
