Mike Mager Wins New York Ultimate League & $40,000

Mike Mager of East Greenbush, New York finally ended the Fleming Dynasty by winning this year's NFBC New York MTM Ultimate League and grabbing the $40,000 league prize. Mike has been close to winning this title a couple of times, but he couldn't get past Scott Fleming, who won the previous three New York Ultimate League titles.

This time, however, it was Mike Mager who dominated this league. He jumped into the lead in Week 1 and never gave up the top spot, winning by 10.5 points with 117.5 points. Eric Albright finished second with 107.5 points to earn $20,000, while Ned Donohue finished third with 105.5 points to win $7,500.

Cost of entry for the NFBC New York MTM Invitational Ultimate League was $10,000.

Mike drafted from the 10th spot and built his team around Shohei Ohtani, which was a wise move. Freddy Peralta, Raisel Iglesias and William Contreras were also solid early picks for Mike's championship team.

The New York MTM Ultimate League was organized by Mike Massotto and hosted by Mike at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Robbinsville, New Jersey. The NFBC did not host any other live events on the East Coast in 2024, so Mike handled the hosting duties at the Hampton Inn and even hosted an after-draft party at his house. Some new players flew in from the West Coast and Midwest to participate in this league. We will again host the New York Ultimate League in Robbinsville, New Jersey this year on Saturday, March 15th, so plan accordingly.

This league was livestreamed by Scott Jenstad and Toby Guevin on Rotowire.com and at one time there were over 7,000 people watching live. We expect to have a similar livestream again in 2024.

Mike Mager won his first NFBC Ultimate League title this year in New York to join a long list of great Ultimate League champions. The 15-Team NFBC Ultimate League was our first high-stakes private league we held as we actually held the Ultimate Draft League and the Ultimate Auction League at the very same time during our second season of 2005.
