All Star Leagues

I've mentioned this to Greg and he likes the idea. We're trying to get a feel for how many people are interested. I've already talked to a couple of NFBC members who have said they'll do it.

All Star Leagues

These leagues would run from All Star Break to All Star Break. Rules would be the same as regular NFBC leagues. Drafts would be live once

a year. Venues:

1) The city that hosts the All Star Game each year. This year it’s in San Francisco. I believe the 2008 All Star Game is in New York.

2) Traditional cities(Las Vegas, New York, Chicago) would also be possibilities, either the first year, or in future years if the idea has legs.

There are numerous appealing aspects of this type of league:

The All Star Game and all of the related festivities. The Home Run Derby, the Fan Fests, it just seems like this would be a great fit for

the NFBC’s presence to get some exposure/visibility, and to partner with MLB to take the NFBC to the next level of popularity. The drafts would all be live, in person, open to the public, and who knows, they might even get a little TV exposure.

From a fantasy players perspective, most of the hardcore players will be there, plus, about that time, some regular NFBC participants buried in the cellar in their regular leagues might want a second shot.

The Leagues would all be High Stakes Leagues. The Entry Fees/Prize Pools any number of ways. From your normal $1,300 on up to a $5,000 Ultimate type Entry.

Leagues could draft on the weekend before the ASB, or during the ASB itself, or both.

It would be interesting to see the different strategies used. Do you stock up on the potential ‘cup of coffee’ call ups? Thinking that if they get hot they could be very useful for 4 months of the fantasy season? How high does the stock of a Homer Bailey or Andrew Miller rise? What about Roger Clemens? How much would AROD go for in an auction right now?

The off season could provide some REALLY interesting twists as well. Maybe you’d shut down FAAB bids from October thru January, but open it back up the first day of Spring Training, each week those who follow the training camp battles could speculate on who is the next Josh Hamilton and pick him up! Perhaps the player pool would be 40-man rosters and all non-roster invitees, details such as that would still need to be worked out, but first, let's see how many would be game for this.

What a great way to juice up one of the worst sports betting times of the entire year.

Love the idea of the All Star Angle, but don't think you'll see me pony up that kind of money for a league that needs 12 months to play out.

If the focus was on an NFBC get together and play those type of leagues as a 12 week Satellite angle, I would be VERY interested.

Great angle, hope Greg figures someway to play this out. Thats why he gets the big bucks!

Yes, two that I'm aware of. Just parlay HARD SPUN'S victory this weekend in the Preakness into some extra cash for the Northern California horse racing circuit.
