2008 1st Round (Top 15)

Post by FFBL23 » Sun Aug 05, 2007 11:53 am

For those of us who are out of it in 2007, it is always fun to look ahead and think about next year. Next year should be very interesting. If the 2008 draft was next week, here's how I see it shaking out:

1) Jose Reyes

2) Alex Rodriguez

3) Hanley Ramirez

4) Albert Pujols

5) Alfonso Soriano

6) David Wright

7) Jimmy Rollins

8) Chase Utley

9) Ryan Howard

10)Grady Sizemore

11)Matt Holliday

12)Miguel Cabrera

13)Vladimir Guerrero

14)Carl Crawford

15)Carlos Beltran

Hnley Rameriz is the number one pick, next year , 30 homers and 50 steals. **** he might do it this year.

Very good list- only place I disagree is no way on Vladi. Other than that great list- how high will Ryan Braun go will be an interesting question and I would not be so quick to remove Santana.

I think the top 3 will be the same in every league, but would not shock me to see them each go just about equally in spots 1 through 3.

I came very close to getting Holliday with my mid first round pick this year. But,I took the easy way and picked Beltran. Now I feel like I ordered dinner and the person at the next table ordered what I was thinking about, and it looks sooo good.

Here would be my top 15:

1) Alex Rodriguez (Power, speed, and the yankee lineup and No injury risk...)

2) Jose Reyes

3) Hanley Ramirez (only because of slight injury risk do I put him below Reyes)

4) Santana (Gekko has shown you can pick a pitcher in the first round and do well)

5) Albert Pujols (if the cardinals get another big hitting player, he moves up a spot)

6) Alfonso Soriano (because the promise of 40/40 is always there)

7) Jimmy Rollins

8) Miguel Cabrera (the power if finally here to make him a top 10 guy)

9) Chase Utley

10) Ryan Howard

11)Grady Sizemore

12) David Wright (not quite enough power/speed to displace anyone above him)

13)Matt Holliday

14) Carl Crawford (should return to form and add power, and there aren't many power/speed guys left at this point)

15)Vladimir Guerrero

Thoughts?

Totally agree Shawn. I took Braun mid second in our mid season league and with his ability to steal 10-15 bags, no dought he is legit top 20 (I surely think higher than that)

All the debate about who goes one ends quickly if Arod signs as a SS.

Santana at #4 is borderline insanity....CC you're probably right about Beltran, I was reaching for that last spot. Beltran does have this habit of following up down years with great seasons. We'll see. Greg, Tom...what do you think about the 2008 1st round??

Go see Gekko's current #2 overall standing for showing the power of a super star pitching starter. Here is the current ESPN rater top 5:

[/QUOTE]I couldn't disagree more. The first round is all about risk adjusted rate of return. SURE Braun maybe the next big thing. Or the world can adjust and he has a sophmore slump. This list isn't about who will perform top 15. That is a totally different question. This list is about, who will provide a very high level of return, with low risk. Hence the reason that only 1 pitcher makes the top 15.

I don't know Lance. It doesn't seem all that different from last year's list and some of the guys, like Holliday, really should have been there last year. If it was based purely on recent results you'd have BJ, Braun, Fielder, and Hart in there and I'm not even sure two of them don't belong. It is all pretty wild speculation at this point anyway. I need two more months of performances and a whole offseason of research before I am ready with my top 15, but I will say that next year might be a good one to draft late in.

I've come to the conclusion it's time for me to break out the Matt Holliday Voodoo curse.

Sorry in advance to all Holliday owners out there...he's going down for the count beginning today!

Oh, huh, sorry, I forgot about your bet. Wasn't purposely bringing up Holliday. But I mentioned him because I had him 7th in my top 15 so I would have been one of those who reached for him if I had a late first round pick (though Stevieland snatched him up 12th in my league). He is the rare player who people just seem to hate. In 2006 I had him ranked 20th overall and he had an adp of 68. Not sure why people are so biased against him. Difficult to believe that hard core fantasy players would avoid a player just because they have a distaste for Coors inflated stats.

That curse was specifically done to begin at Midnight last night...thus when he played in his game yesterday...he was still curse-free!

We'll see the voodoo curse beginning to sink in starting today!!!

I'll take one run, and batting .200 as a nice start to the CURSE!!!

I just wrote a little "Where I was/how life was" when Bonds broke Hanks record...for a keepsake...kinda like a snapshot of life!

F-it...here it is.

BONDS Hits 756!!!

8/7/07

On this day...

I worked 2 jobs...Los Altos Hills with an idiot, and Burlingame with "El" Salvador. (stairs)

Ana had Sergio and Laura over for lunch...Ana was blunt with Laura (no religion teaching by others to the kids in her home), and Sergio had fun playing Guitar Hero with Lancey and Waylon!

I kicked Brett's butt in "Kill for China 3" (Command and Conquer Kane's revenge?) Had the perfect win game!

We debated WCOFF selections via Yahoo Instant Messenger...

Woke Ana up, and gave her a kiss when I found out Bonds broke Hanks record! (She was tired and sleeping) Wanted her to have a recall to the moment...had to break her slumber.

Isn't life grand?!

Hell yes it is!

~Lance (I could have edited out the kiss...but that's just not me.)

Congrats Lance, Although many don't share your enthusiasm, I'm happy for you. Now we'll see if it takes Holliday longer to hit his next home run than it did for Bonds to hit 755.
