Rules Changes For 2008?
Okay, it's time to finalize the rules for the 2008 NFBC and I'll take your input here. We'll have the rules in place on Oct. 1st when the Registration link goes live.
One area of concern that we'll definitely tighten up is the position eligibility for players who saw time in the majors in 2007 but who didn't play 20 games. I think we need to tighten up those requirements and the wording of that within our rules this year. We received some good suggestions earlier this year and I'll implement those into our 2008 rules.
Can you think of any other rules changes?
I know some folks have asked about increasing the minimum innings pitched limit from the current level of 600. I have asked STATS to forward me the IP totals as of today and I'll look those over before ruling on anything. At this point, I don't have a big desire to increase it from 600 IP, but we'll see.
Anything else?? Post here if you have some ideas.

If they can allow you to activate those players and still give you time to set the rest of your lineup before the first Monday night game, I'm all for it. It's up to STATS to see if we can do that or not. We obviously do that for the NFFC, so it would be good to do this for the NFBC. I've asked them and will act accordingly upon their response for 2008. It's a good suggestion.

Rules Changes For 2008?
Interesting. In one of my leagues, I just now moved Troy Glaus to reserve (he's out for the season). However, there was no "DL" designation next to his name. How are we able to know which players can be moved to reserve if there is no indication (i.e. the "DL" graphic) from STATS? At the very least, can we have a Master List in which this information is available to the general public?
EDIT: I just noticed Greg's posting from this morning. However, after consideration, I concluded that it's pretty silly to require owners to check the message boards to determine if their players are eligible to be Benched for the weekend. We've gotta tighten that up ASAP.

Gregg I feel it was not implemented right ...so please tell me the difference between O Dog's case and Josh hamilton? I may not be in the hunt for the grand prize like some others, but I am definitely in battle for the money in LV1. This could have been a 2 point swing in my favor if I were able to substitute A caberea for Hudson. like I said before J Hamilton is "likely done for the season".
Rules Changes For 2008?
I also realize Gregg that this rule does not make your job any easier. But if you are going to use this rule, I feel it should be enforced fairly, correctly and without bias.

You tried to submit an invalid lineup - it was not saved.
You cannot make changes to your weekend lineup unless you are benching a player who is on the official MLB DL

We'll have to do the same thing next week as well and the week after that.

Here's the Rototimes.com report last Friday. Remember, he got hurt on Tuesday and played on Wednesday. As of last Friday, he was expected to miss a few days. There was no way we could put him on a DL last Friday based on these reports. No way at all and it had NOTHING to do whether your team or anyone else's team had Hudson. Here's the report:
Friday, Sept. 7th:
Orlando Hudson is dealing with a torn ligament in his left thumb. He hopes to miss only a few days. "Nothing to worry about, just maybe a couple of days," he tells the Arizona Republic. Hudson injured the thumb on Tuesday night and played on Wednesday.

I wish I could have helped you last weekend, but there was no evidence before Friday that he would be out for the season. He is now on the DL and trust me there are some owners who had him in their starting lineup this week so it is helping those owners now.
I'll post this again as it's in the other thread:
Richard, we didn't rule on Hamilton on Wednesday. Tom and I discussed his situation yesterday afternoon and didn't make a call on this one until we saw two separate reports that showed him out for the year. The latest RotoWorld.com report states:
An MRI of Josh Hamilton's right hamstring revealed a minor strain, which will likely keep the rookie out for the remainder of the season.
On the Reds' homepage yesterday it listed:
Reds' Notes: Hamilton likely done for year.
The story goes on to say:
The 26-year-old will not make the 10-day road trip that begins Friday, and will remain in Cincinnati to do his rehabilitation. With just 16 games to go, all indications are that this is a season-ending injury.
Now, you are correct that we could have just left him alone and forced owners to eat his stats for this weekend. But this was one of the reasons we added this rule this year as teams do not put players on the DL in September. If a player gets hurt and is determined out for the rest of the year, obviously before rosters are expanded teams would DL that player. So we're doing it now for them since we can't expand our rosters.
Hamilton isn't making the 10-game road trip and appears out for the year. I'm sorry you disagree with our decision.

Rules Changes For 2008?
In 2004 I participated in the NL Auction League. At the July 31st trade deadline the team with the most FAAB was able to pickup Carlos Beltran and thus went from being a team in the bottom of the standings to nearly placing in a money position.
I also entered the 2005 NL Auction and I had decided I would try the above mentioned strategy. Unfortunately I wasn't the only one to try this and as the trade deadline approached it was apparent that two other teams were more successful than I at saving their FAAB.
My favorite team, the San Diego Padres had signed a player, Pedro Astacio to a minor league contract and it was subsequently announced that he would be called up to the ML roster and be the SP in a Sunday game. Astacio was not in the league's free agent pool.
I decided that Astacio would be a nice addition to my team and planned to bid aggressively to get him. By this time I realized that the other two teams would get the big trade deadline players and I had a lot more FAAB than the other members of the league, so I felt confidant that I would have the winning bid for ol' Pedro.
Sunday morning I checked the free agent list,... no Pedro. I had promised the kids I would take them to the beach that day and they were anxious to get going, but I didn't want to leave until I got my bid in for Pedro. So I told the kids that we didn't want to get to the beach to early as we wanted to wait long enough for the morning clouds to clear. A couple of hours go by and I keep hitting the refresh button hoping Pedro will show up. But no Pedro.
Finally my daughter says to me, "Are we going to go to the beach today or are we just going to sit around all day while you are on your stupid computer?". I knew she had a good point but just to stall a little longer I told her to take a walk around the block and that I would be ready to go when she got back.
While she was gone my son, who happens to be a baseball fan, asks me why I'm taking so long. I decided I could confide in him and that maybe I could get some understanding. So I tell him that I'm waiting for Pedro Astacio to be added to the free agent list in my fantasy baseball league so that I can pick him up. My son , who I would never of guessed would turn on his dad and I've never heard him use foul language, said to me, "Who the hell is Pedro Astacio?"
We went to the beach, had a great day. When we returned I was disappointed to see that Pedro Astacio was picked up for some token amount as I was never able to place a bid on him.
I finished last in that league but I'm telling you that if I had been able to pick up ol' Pedro it would not of been me on the bottom.
So .... my request for a rule change is that the free agent list be locked when the stats are updated after the Saturday games, so that I don't miss out on any more 'Pedros'.

Rules Changes For 2008?
I would love to see free agent deadline day being changed. Sunday is a bad day for alot of people with eating out, visiting relatives metc. Also, teams seem to make alot of moves on Sunday for some reason. Why not have the deadline about 10 pm EST or 7 pm out west on Monday. That way everyone is traeted a little more fairly. I saw guys picking up a free agent for near 100 dollars and he had been sent to the minors earlier on that bSunday. Forget who that was.

How about a 2am or 3am Monday morning deadline for free agents ?
STATS will not have a heavy volume to deal with and we get more time to spend with our families during the day.
We could actually look forward to Monday mornings to see what free agents were picked up.

OH MY GOODNESS...as someone who REALLY enjoys Sundays during pre and regular season Football and all year long for that matter with the major online poker games on Sunday...changing it to Monday...would be awesome and appreciated. I'm planning on quiting a local league that runs waivers via Sunday phone calls...it's the worst day of the week for "working".

I'm a fan of the current Sunday deadline. Mondays would be tougher for most with work in the way. Most people don't work on Sundays. I enjoy being able to set my lineup on Sunday after transactions.
