What Should We Do For Five-Year Members?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Oct 08, 2007 8:40 am

This March will mark the fifth year of the National Fantasy Baseball Championship -- NFBC V -- and I'd like to honor those owners who have been with us all five years. We started with 195 owners in 2004 and lost a ton of money!! :D Now we're shooting for 390 this year and thanks to the growth of the side events like the auction leagues, Ultimate Leagues and satellite leagues are revenue quadrupled from 2004 to 2007. It's time to pay homage to those folks who helped make this all possible.

If you are planning to return in 2008 and have been with us from the start, I'm looking to honor you in some way. I haven't figured it out yet, but I'd like to have folks see right away that you're an NFBC lifer on Draft Day. Would a nice gold NFBC hat work? Would a shirt be better? A Rolex? :D A free entry? :D A car??

Okay, enough Greg. Get it together. Within budget, my man, within budget!! :D

Anyway, give me some thoughts on this as I trust we'll have 100+ owners back for a fifth straight season in the main event. It's a great base of owners who helped the NFBC grow through the last five years and I want them to stand out from the crowd. Give me suggestions and I'll take it from there. Thanks all and NFBC V will be a year to remember.

Just a thought... instead of 100 tshirts at $13 a pop how about a league of our own (using the main event teams) where the winner gets a free entry ?

On the shirt if you do it, would it be too much that they be custom or customized so that only the Fab 100+ have one like it? Like a button front baseball-style shirt with "NFBC" accross the front?

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

LOL! On a shirt. My buttons would pop off!

I'd be happy with anything. Maybe a Pete Rose Baseball? LOL! :D

Whatever we decide, it will be special only to the NFBC 5-year vets. Hat, shirt, whatever, you will stand out in the crowd. That's the idea.

I'm pushing for an NFBC magazine now and an NFFC magazine to follow in the summer. It's time for this and if we could pull it off we'd be able to REALLY do some cool things. We'll see what the plans look like, but I'd love to do this. I'm not so sure we need individual photos of all original members, but featuring more league champs and their winning strategies and more could be some good content. Stay tuned.

I'll post more later tonight or tomorrow. THAT would be kinda cool. A tribute to the original competitors of the NFBC. Everyone sends in a photo, and you add it to the Magazine. All in one area, or as filler spread throughout the magazine in the areas that need filling. (With name of course).

I think those of us returning for year #5 should get a free round of golf with Brady Tinker.

Seriously, I like the snapshot in the magazine idea and have always enjoyed those ID Badges we have gotten over the last few events. Maybe you can find a special way to mark year #5 on next years badges as a keepsake.

Instead of Hat, what about a visor. Certain hats just don't fit right on certain people but a gold NFBC V visor would be snazzy!

Great idea, Greg.

How about special baseball hats for the 5-year vets?

I would go with a black hat, with a special gold NFBC emblem, and on the back the words "CHARTER MEMBER" in gold lettering.

RoundTrippers suggested getting the NFBC logo on the back of the hat too for folks who like to wear their hats backwards. I like that for this one too.

Oh, boy. I better get an estimate here. My big idea is going to cost me!!! :D

Greg, anything is ok with me, but some sort of magazine recognition would be real cool.

BTW I am in for 2008 - I just don't know yet whether it will be Vegas or Chicago...always Vegas before, but thinking of Chicago this time.

Okay, I've been working with Rick Gromek of The Maine Thread and I think we have a pretty cool giveaway for any of our five-year members of the NFBC and I'll gladly do this next year for the NFFC members as well. We've picked out some black hats and have the NFBC logo on the front with gold stitching that says CHARTER MEMBER. Then we have the NFBC stitched on the back with a cool diamond and the numbers 2004-08.

The hats have velcro in the back so that one size fits all. Now here's the kicker: Rick said he can stitch your team names down one side for an additional $2.50 and both sides if you'd like for $5. If you want that done, just let me know and we'll figure it out. I'll gladly pay for the rest, but everyone has their own preferences on the rest. Some may like a loaded hat, some may not.

But our original members will stand out as folks who helped bring the NFBC to what it is today. And by the 10th year, I'll become even more creative!! :D

Rick is going to put the cap on his site soon so that you can see what it looks like. We'll get the orders stitched after you've been signed up and we'll ship everything to the cities to hand out at Registration. Could be fun, fun, fun.

Greg, At 10 years I think you will need to look at free entries, but that is a long ways down he line. Then again, it seems like you just started this and here we are looking at year 5. Keep up the great work.

Is this recognition for members who have been in from the beginning or for all members who reach their 5 consecutive year in the NFBC?

I did like the "Charter Member" idea for those who have been involved since the onset. Although any 5 year member should get some kind of mention since many did not know of the NFBC in the beginning but joined quickly afer they discovered it and continue to join.

Just thinking ahead to next year since this is my 4th consecutive with no plans to give it up in the near to extended future.
