OK...Sorry...the coffee has finally worn off...I'm done.

~Lance I would taken Chris Young. I think he is the smartest of the bunch. With Randy's knees, he would go down easy and Sexton has hit anything in two years!

rick, the problem that you're going to have is that you're in TOO MANY FRIGG'N LEAGUES!!!! how many leagues do you feel are too many to successfully manage assuming all are weekly moves with Sunday FAAB or NFBC type with the Friday moves possible.

Hi Shawn,

Who was your top sleeper (Round 20-30) heading into last year? Did you get him on any teams?

Thanks

Shawn,

I think by the looks of Gekko adding his two cents throughout the chat that he is envious and would love to have his own "expert" chat time, do you see the same envy?

last season's draft championship league didn't pan out for you. A strategic mishap or was it due to freak injuries/rare underperformance by your players ?

Do the lack of free agents tilt the skill/luck % in luck's corner or does this league require a more skilled approach than the main ? That said do you have a specific strategy in place for this type of league or is just like the main - pick the best damn player in every possible round ? I liked the Draft Champions leagues. My team wasn't very good in the first one, but I finished second in my second draft. I liked my approach better in the second event.

I would play it like any other event early. When it reached the mid twenties, I would make sure I had two SS, 2nd, 3rd and 1st. Last year I took a third 2nd baseman before I draft a second shortstop. I think it hurt more when I didn't have a quailty backup.

I would also try to backup my closers rather than chase a lot of closers in waiting. There just isn't enough roster space..believe it or not!!

fyi......i scaled down the number of leagues that i am in this year...i use to do 5/6 local leagues and have scaled those back to "concentrate" even more on the nfbc...i am single..no kids...diagnosed with insomnia and have no social life(by choice i would like to think)...when i bought the restaurant with my brother we had a blood pinkie swear that i get off EVERY sunday no matter what to work on my sunday moves(and of course gamble on bases as well as final rounds of each golf tournament) if all of these factors arent a recipe for success i dont know what is!!!

17th round - you have a good pitching staff so far - four SP and two closers: Rich Harden and Randy Johnson are both available - which one would you take and why?

If you liked your hitting and the one you didn't pick in 17 was available in 18 would you add him? Harden....he has the talent to be the best pitcher in the league. Randy had the talent!

I think I would pass on Johnson for at least one round. My hitting can't that good.

Harden moves up four rounds as soon as he pitches two shutout innings with 5 K's!!

Your inclusion as a chat host has been received well due to your past NFBC successes. How about the

non NFBC player or one with sub par results ? I think their insights would be just as valuable. Your take ? I think most players who play in high stakes fantasy games have had success at some level of fantasy baseball. Maybe they haven’t come up with a plan or had enough things go their way to win, but I think they know the players. You never know where you will find useful information.

I’ve seen where someone isn’t respected for having success in the NFBC. I kind of think this is funny when I see this. Many major league teams have scouts who were players that never made it in the big leagues. Yet they are counted on to evaluate player on skills they don’t have. There are plenty of fantasy players or even writers who know talent, but they haven’t been able to execute a winning plan. Unlike a major league scout, a player who can evaluate players can turn the corner and compete on a high level. You never know when the switch goes on.

I have a friend that could never stay sober long enough to play fantasy baseball at a high level. He would always disappear at some point in the season, but he is someone I respect as a talent evaluator. He would always spot an up and coming player, but he never was a threat as a fantasy player. I consider him an asset to me when discussing baseball.

Shawn...

Keeping with the "Super Tuesday" theme...if put to a vote...how would you vote.

A) Keep the "Friday DL" as is.

B) Eliminate it all together.

C) Open it up to include all players...regardless of DL status.

I like to have a fielding position in mind coming into the draft that I can afford to wait on while targeting others, for example last year it was outfield for me.

What position do you think you can afford to wait on this year, meaning not even think about until Round 12 or beyond? If you were forced to pick one. Exclude catchers.

What is the latest round you would consider drafting your first starting pitcher?

Also, how many pitchers (starting + relievers) would you consider too many to pick in the first ten rounds? I think it varies from year to year. I wouldn't want to wait to long this year. I think you could wait until 7 or 8, but you better take a few close together and get them right.

I could see four at the most. I will depend on the draft flow.

Newbie question-- Great articles on your website. I have been reading since last September. Aside from drafting a "Judy", what are the 3 biggest mistakes you see at the draft?

Thanks- Neal 1-Drafting too much offense/not enough pitching

2-Drafting too much pitching/not enough offense

3-Drafting a young player too early....Last year Gordon was getting drafted early. If he is getting selected before say Beltre, he needs to beat Beltre. Gordon would have had fair value if he was selected after any 3rd baseman who had proven results. Gordon was worth a shot after say round 13, but he didn't even live up to that.

As you drift off to sleep at night are your thoughts more apt to be of Evan Longoria or Eva Longoria? As I know I could only satisfy Eva for only a moment, I would have to focus on seeing if Evan is worth my attention.
