Live Chat: Greg A. Today At 3 P.M. EST

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Feb 12, 2008 5:17 am

Okay, I finally have an opening in my schedule today and I thought I'd jump on the Message Boards today at 3 p.m. EST for a live chat. Feel free to ask questions about the NFBC, player eligibility, player projections, NFBC Charter Member hats, my working relationship with Tom, the future of this high-stakes market, the Green Bay Packers, etc. I'm game today for anything!! :D

Just so you know: It was below zero here again this morning and it's snowing now. We've had like 13 months straight of this winter and all of us are a bit edgy here now. I'll try to be on my best behavior, but if I don't see the sun and the thermometer above 32 in the next three weeks I'm going to go on a rampage. Now someone bring me a 32-ounce caffeine filled soda and let the sun in here.

Okay, fire away. I'll return after a nice game of hoops and answer them all. Thanks all and keep the signups comin'. I'm ready to fill this main event up NOW!! :D

Greg, In your observations of the Main Event over the last four years, is there a #1 common error, oversite, or other strategic faux pas that you have seen owners make on draft day?

Does Peter Edward Rose, Sr. belong in the Hall of Fame?

Have you ever been so mad at Tom you have considered giving him the pink slip? Please provide the story.

Greg:

Why do you always GET to head to Vegas for the drafts while poor Tom has to play second fiddle and get dumped into the middle of midtown Manhatten? We won't even mention poor Rocky.

Is there one guy you have avoided up until now in all your drafts/auctions because you think he is injured much worse than what is common knowledge?

Will you win the L.A.B.R. this year and why?

Gregorino...

Having never had the privilege to attend a NFFC Main event in person...I can only guess based on my WCOFF experience that there may have been some folks dressed up as Wizards or Snakes or Darth Maul or Pimps, etc.

Football being a bit (LOT) crazier.

During the first year of the NFBC...were there any wild drafters with good luck charms on their table, or dressed up as Tommy Lasorda with the full baseball uni...stirrups and all, or mini-cubicles to hide their cheat sheets...or overly hung over/still drunk folks?

...or is baseball a thinking mans game, and the drafters are all well behaved and under control?

Any standout memories?

Greg, If another publications company made you an offer that you couldn't turn down, would the NFBC follow you to your next job or stay with Krause?

Seeing that you play hoops...

Is it simply a "macho" thing that stops every single male from the NBA down to middle school from shooting underhanded free throws...even when they've tried for years the regular way, and can't make over 50%???

Would a high arching banked free throw yield a higher % for accuracy?

(Hey...you said anything goes!)

After five years, are we at a best case scenario for what you had planned for the NFBC?

What would be your best case scenarios for 10 years?

Will Upper Deck again be the sponsor for the weekly prizes? Last year's batch of prizes was pretty impressive (except for maybe a Kei Igawa autographed ball). Can we expect similar excellent prizes?

Greg,

What is the earliest YOU would take Johan Santana in an NFBC draft?

Last week, Lou Pinella announced his hitting lineup with Soriano and Theriot at the top of the order. How many games into the season will it take Pinella to realize his mistake?

Do you feel Martin and Martinez are getting too much love being taken in the second half of round 2?

Greg,

Any update on any enhancements for the FAAB process? I know there was a thread where we talked about this a little. Last year I had 4 teams and Sundays became insane trying to change bids.

I think if STATS could improve the system your business would go up as owners would take on more teams.

Thanks

No reason to wait until 3 p.m. when it looks like cocktail hour can start a few minutes earlier!! :D RT, this winter is so DAMN BAD HERE that I'd take the over on this one no matter what Vegas puts as the number. I'm flying into Las Vegas on Wednesday, March 12th and as soon as I land I'm going down to the Flamingo pool, order me two buckets of Corona's and lay there until my white virgin Wisconsin skin turns bright red. Then I'm going to order me up another bucket of Corona's. And that may continue through Thursday. :D

Actually, the best beer I'm going to drink this year will happen on Friday, Feb. 29th when Zaleski and I are sitting at the first spring training game of the year in Phoenix. I'm flying there in 17 days and will have my butt in a seat watching baseball games that weekend before the LABR Drafts. I can't imagine the sensation of seeing the sun again, green grass, no snow and baseball again. I'm very much looking forward to that day as we have at least two more months of winter looking at us here.

To answer your question: I'd say 30 and take the over. :D

Not really, although I am surprised at how many owners still use magazine Cheat Sheets on Draft Day. I'm glad they use our Cheat Sheets, but honestly for this price I'd probably take all that information I get ahead of time and build my own Cheat Sheets. But that's just me. And I think fewer folks use a laptop and draft software than I thought would.

I think the biggest mistake folks make is that they don't realize how important every single pick is on Draft Day. I mean there are times during the second break when folks are hitting the bar and feeling so good about their draft, when those last 10 picks can make or break your season. Past NFBC champions have all had breakout picks after Round 10 and that will never change. You need to make EVERY SINGLE pick count.
