I have been looking over the ADP from MDC on the 1st 11 drafts and a few really stuck out, your thoughts?
Nathan went as late as 8.1
McCann went as early as 3.1
C Pena went as early as 2.14
Victorino went as early as 4.1
Valverde went as late as 10.6
Jenks went as late as 10.3
Saito went as late as 8.11
Hawpe went as early as 3.14
Andruw Jones went as late as 10.12
Kemp went as early as 6.1
were all of the late picks at closer in the same draft?

were all of the late picks at closer in the same draft? I certainly wouldn't plan my draft strategy around something similar happening in the main!

C Young does not shock me, not something I would do, but people just looking at other 4 cats and not average took a risk. If they take D Wright and then Suzuki, CYoung could have gone in that spot. Burrell was on my next list of players. Late closer picks would never work in the main.

Looking at closers in ADP can be a bit risky. Saves is both ignored [all starter strategy] and emphasized by some in these drafts [all reliever strategy].
Neither idea will work in overall standings but can work in single leagues although they have a much better chance to work in auctions. The advantage for either in a snake draft is very minimal and leaves little if any margin of error.

my prediction is that many of the players with little track record go lower in the main event. It is one thing to pick a guy like BJ Upton 16th with $125 or 250 on the line, another when you have $1300. I bet people get way more conservative and go for less risk

Apology for being blunt. But,if someone took Kubel at 8-13 they had just smoked the drapes.

The picks that were late ones, were great value picks, whether you like the player or not, you cannot pass on him. That was a great pick for you, cannot believe he lasted that long

His ADP in all satellite leagues so far(with my outlier bringing the average down), is 205th, or the middle of the 13th round..

Dave, let's just assume the Kubel pick was a Twins fan, other than that, there is absolutely no justification for it other than, he ran out of time and the player in his queue. Same with any of the other early picks that were five rounds or more ahead of their ADP

Saito, Jenks, and Nathan picks were all in my league. Made for a hard draft because hitters that I was looking to get in rounds 9&10 were gone by round 8. I got Krod in round six and was the third closer taken. Nathan at R8P1 was just the 6th closer taken. Jenks in R10P3 was the 9th closer taken. The 8th closer was taken at R10P2

Sure you have be flexible and adjust to the draft you're in, but sometimes you need to just buck the trend and grab what YOU think is worth the pick. Better to start a run than to be left at the end of one....
That said, it seems like there were a few guys smoking drapes in those satellites. Ah, the pleasures of drafting from home....
