What is this a courtroom?

In addition to sponsored memorabilia as a weekly prize, add a cash prize as well. Say $1000/week. That is similar to many football pools, where people think if they win a week, they pretty much win their money back and all other winnings are a bonus. This adds $27,000, but next year I am convinced there will be 300 teams, so that is an extra $131,250 in the kitty. Remember why we are all in this. Money talks and Bullsh!t walks!!!

Sorry Nevadaman, nothing personal. I just don't believe in changing things without a real good reason and I don't think adding category prizes would accomplish anything other than to take away from the real contest. Just my opinion.

Hello all, I do not say much but having a team where we foolishly drafted Prior and Nomar 1 and 2 and sat in the 180's overall in the first half and around 13-15 in league, though I am proud to say we have not hit 195 overall (yet). However, I do like the second half prize however. Only because it is more realistic for us than the overall. We have moved from 187 to 127 in the 2nd half overall, I believe that move would have us in contention for a second half prize. But unlike teams that go dead and have owners with out honor, I don't need a prize to keep competing I will be checking and doing what I can until the end. I mean we have moved into the top 2/3 for me that is a victory....next the top half then to 1/3.....dead owners should not be rewarded IMHO

Should the owner of a dead-team be allowed to be an early entry? I realize that you should not refuse anyone's entry but possibly they should be placed in a holding area and only allowed back if the contest is not filled by March 1. If 300 others sign up by March 1, then these dead-team owners will have to wait a year.

How you define a dead-team may be an issue but some reasonable definition could be worked out. A dead-team owner would have the right to appeal with Tom & Greg being the judge and jury. Just a thought.

This thread has reached page 3 - impressive.

Scrap this whole dead team thing. It will get you nowhere. I have tried it , and guess what, the bad teams still quit participating. Any owner either gives it his all regardless of how bad his team is (that comes from the individual persons personality) or he quits (there are always quitters in the world).

Category payout is a poor idea in a non-trading league. Category payout eventually just gives more money to the teams in the money anyway.

Interesting idea to keep interest level up, but category prizes would detract from the real objective which is to reward the best teams/managers.

Ideally, each team should be run to maximize overall points for the entire season. Although that doesn't happen, introducing category side bets would actually exacerbate the problem with quality players hitting the waiver wire in some leagues as poor performers begin to manage for table scraps.

Even worse, the more imbalanced the lge, the more of those teams would be making such moves, conferring an even greater potential advantage for the overall prize on those teams that were lucky enough to draft from a weak league in the first place. As such, I would be STRONGLY against this idea.

The only thing suggested that I could be in favor of is a post-All Star Gm prize, but that should be based on actual stats for the second half, not an increase in point standings over the first half, which (already pointed out) could incentivize early counter-productive strategies.
