Reminds me a lot of Chris Shelton, only with no power...

Worth a $4 bid

Dyv murph has a decent skill set and is left-handed. that's all one needs to be successful in Texas. solid contact rate, good defender, and oft-injured bradely there has me hoping he will see FT at bats. if he does, a good waiver wire buy.

he and liriano are two guys i wish i could give back. heck, i'd even take david murphy over miggy at this point David Murphy is really growing on me. Reminds me of a little faster version of Rusty Greer. I saw Rick Thomas bid big on him this week too.
Great to hear that. We picked up Murphy in the main event, but I was out bid in 3 other leagues for him !@#$$
I think you're being generous with the .292 AVG. He'll be lucky to be with the big squad at the end of the season.

I may brag, but it seems like we have an idol worshipper amongst us. ;)

BTW, GG, how many games have you watched him play to deem him a good defender?

BTW, GG, how many games have you watched him play to deem him a good defender?I would assume that he reads Baseball America, which would be a fair way to evaluate minor league defense but they called him merely adequate and they usually go overboard when gushing about an average defenders ability. They also called him a 4th OF type which is what all my other info told me when I was looking at the FA list. I figured he'd go for $2 and we'd never hear about him again. How do people get all excited about nobody like this? Was Baseball HQ hyping him or something?

Man, so many guys drank the HQ Kemp Kool Aid.I liked him and I don't even recall looking at their projection. He deserves to play. He's earned it and he'll do well. He just started in a slump like a lot of guys. However, I did walk into the draft saying f*@$ the Dodgers outfield and f*@$ everyone associated with it and that strategy has worked out fairly well.
Well Brian you do not give me credit for much, but you do give me credit for being able to evaluate hitting skills. I like the guy. Keep in mind my comparisons are to Rusty Greer not Eric Byrnes- big difference. I think he will be a nice play in the 5th OF or Utility slot for the foreseeable future.

I assume the idol worshiper comment was directed at me. Rick is a guy bright guy and I like to observe what bright people do and learn from them (with that said no need to worry I will not be watching you).

Well, looks like he doesn't deserve to play under the Torre way of doing things, which probably goes back to things discussed before... Ethier keeps playing and producing....

Well Brian you do not give me credit for muchI would not say that at all. I have been virtually tied with you in lifetime standings forever (yes, yes, you are ahead) so theoretically I couldn't give you any less credit than I give myself.

I like him also, but it's a good thing you didn't see the initial HQ projections.Well, looking at the Shandler Book, they have him at .290, 14, 20. I had him a tick higher in BA with generously more power (low 20's) and about the same in steals in the same # of AB's (450), but he was going to have to go in that value area. I wasn't going to base him on 550 at bats and don't forget the low ABs clip his runs and RBIs. Basically, great player but I wasn't going to jump and assume everything works out as per my previous post.

Also, I am certainly not going to go on record saying Cueto will bust, but it may be a little early to assume his year will be a resounding success.

Also, BA had Cueto #4 after the other big 3 prospects for the Reds. I wouldn't say they were down on him at all. I'm not sure how reading BA doesn't qualify as part of your own research anyway. Were you making it out to the minor league complex for all his starts last year? You read scouting reports and you read stats and that's all you can do for minor leaguers if you can't get tape.

He's an empty strikeout rate if I ever saw one.

I was really actually wondering why people liked him. You could be right about him. I don't think I know enough about him to argue his suckiness the way I will argue Chase Headley's mediocrity. Also, I respect the opinions of you and Chest, et al. so let's see what the kid does.
He did NOT tear the cover off the ball this spring - I don't know what you were reading Mark, but I saw him in way more than half his games this year, plus most every day in drills/bp etc.

He is taking advantage of the opportunity and some bad performances ahead of him to grab a spot.....for now. I actually doubt it lasts, but play him while you have him - he doesn't have that much power or speed. YES he could be a very good 5th OF for a while.
