IQ Test - Part Deux
It is no secret that I targeted Greinke this year. I have him in my satellite (MAG II) and in the Main. This week however, his one start was in Texas, so with other decent options in the Main, he is riding the pine for me today. Only one other person in the Main who has him also benched him. Anyone want to fess up and sit out there on the limb with me?
I started him in MAG II. As a matter of fact, he was started in 100% of the satellite leagues.
The other risk I am taking with approximately 20 other Main event teams is starting Kazmir in his first start back from the DL on the road at BOS. I need the K's, so let's see if it is worth the gamble, or if I should have been more prudent.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I think it is too deep a league to sit either of them unless you've got an all star squad. So the real question is who is playing instead. I hope not Eveland.
Chance favors the prepared mind.

Blalock wasn't going to be in this week and since it's day after night - probably not Bradley either. Good SP's that are ON (Greinke being one) will always shut down a good hitting team. I would have ran him out there.

Would have rolled the dice on 4 runs or less given up but with Ponson as the opposing pitcher better than average chance for a win

Im a big Greinke guy , i have him in the Shawn Childs league , the 1000 dollar satilitte , and the 1300 hundred dollar auction where i paid 15 for him.
To be honest i dont even look at his match ups , as good as he's been he just plays.I also have Kazmir in the auction league [23 dollars] and have been waiting for his first start.I will also just play him every week , especially in a auction league where he is my horse.

He was pitching in a good pitchers partk (@LAA) so I thought it was a good move.
Started this week: Kazmir, Myers, Penny, Bonser, Gaudin, Eveland and Buehrle.
Sat Baker (vs DET), Wolf (@PHL), and Grienke (@TEX).
I am clearly overthinking who to start. Looking at that staff, who would you consider the "must starts" no matter where they are pitching?

With rollins being out and the lefty wolf neutralizing Utley and Howard, wolf was probably a safe play
I have eveland who I benched and ran wolf out there.
I ran Hughes out there though
and now will replace him with Baker. Baker pitched decent against det last year.. we shall see tonight

I'd say you have to start Kazmir, Greinke, Penny, and Gaudin right now. That could change as Myers would have been on a few weeks ago and Gaudin could be off next week, but right now, those are the guys throwing too well to sit (okay, not Kazmir, but he is just too big a guy to sit). I agree with Eddie that I would not even bother looking at their match-ups.
Makes sense. I actually was looking at the fact that the Angels hit better on the road (no big surprise) with weak power, so I took the chance. Should have started Wolf, but he had been whacked by a good hitting team (ARI) his last two times out, so I added two plus two and got five as an answer, I guess.
Sorry about Hughes. That had to hurt. I was going to use Baker if they pushed Kazmir out another day, so I will be rooting for you there.
Thanks!

It actually wouldn't hurt me if Myers became a closer again, but Lidge is pitching well, so not much chance of that. I hope he starts really letting it fly soon because he can be so dominant.
I appreciate the input. Good luck!
Sorry dude. That really bites. And it is not like these were old, broken down veterans with histories of being injury prone. Hopefully the Baker injury will only cost him/you three starts.
