Why don't YOU zip it big mouth? This is the NFBC message board, not the main event message board. Scherzer's impact is big news to all NFBC participants, not just those in the main.

I'd venture a guess that many of the satellite players that you insult as if they're opinions aren't worth anything know more about baseball than you ever will...perhaps they just don't have $1300 as disposable income to do the main.

Did MB readers really expect Gordon to post truthfully about the range that Scherzer and others would fall in? He's playing to win and he's playing the game his way and I respect that. The MB's are full of (mis)information, Heck, I'll bet I touted Tulo sometime before the year started. This wasn't intentional misinformation but it turned out to be misinformation nonetheless.

The MB's and RotoWorld are a lot alike. Both have a lot of useful information and both have a lot of throwaway data. It is every players job to discern between the two.

Just my two cents. i started off my scherzer bid in the 400's. researched him a lot and his situation. i was going back and forth on him quite a bit. logic indicates that scherzer won't get 20 starts this year and may not get any "meaningful" role for most of the season. as a man of logic, it took me a while to get over that specific point.

i decided to first bump my bid when my SP began to shitt the bed this weekend and when gallardo went down. when my SP continued to stain the bed on sunday, i put in my maximum bid. is everyone happy now. do i need to give my bid/thought process for all my free agents going forward?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

update...

Max Scherzer - Doug Davis threw another bullpen session Friday and is taking aim at a return to the Diamondbacks during the May 16-18 home series vs. Detroit. Scherzer is a tough one to guage. It looks like he's a good bet while he's in the rotation, but when Doug Davis comes back in two weeks my fear is that Scherzer moves back into the bullpen. With that said, I think the hype machine got him and will bump up my guess.

Initial: $250-$275

Final: $300-$350 (REV UP THE FAAB ENGINE )

Jeff Clement - Has hit 2-10 since being called up. This will help lend credence to my earlier remark that he will slip under the radar on a lot of people's FAAB bids this week. I'll hold steady with my previous guess.

Initial: $150-$175

Final: Same as previous

Wladimir Balentien - He has only 3 hits in his first 15 at bats. But one has been a three run homer off of everyone's golden boy Cliff Lee. Like Clement, I think he will be under the radar and provide good value to his new owners. BUT, I will lower my guess a bit (unless he slams another hr this afternoon )

Initial: $175

Final: $150-$175

Good luck everyone!

You made this post on Sunday well after everyone and you knew Gallardo was gone for the year.

I don't mind you posting your take on Scherzer, but I do mind the back peddling trying to justify why you changed you bid.

For those who don't know, Clement and Balentien weren't available in his league. So he could sing like a canary about them....

I think someone told me that the average winning bid price for Scherzer was $585. Can anyone remember a bigger in-season pickup during our first five NFBC seasons? I can't. Can anyone remember a bigger in-season pickup during all of their fantasy baseball playing days? KOQ mentioned Kerry Wood from 1998, but obviously we weren't running this contest at that time.

Let's hear it. Any war stories from the past that involve in-season pickups, or did everyone just use the standard "last place gets first choice of free agents" method before FAAB?

And if there was any question why the NFBC doesn't allow all minor-leaguers to be bid on before they are called up, yesterday was a perfect example of why. Scherzer became that one player that almost every NFBC owner had a shot at and thought would help them out. So it was a very interesting day yesterday.

Anyway, let's see some war stories.

Shawn - you're completely missing the point. I never said what my bid was going to be. Sunday afternoon I even posted that I thought scherzer's avg bid increased in my guess.

That is 100% consistent with what I said my thought process was.

Keep your word from a few weeks ago and just go away- your brother is a wise man and probably has a lifetime of being embarrassed by you so it was great advice. The nasty PM I sent you that made you cry so much was one question Does it suck to be so miserable? Same question applies today.

I am sure there are lots of great guys who play satellites because they cannot afford the main event yet cool- this one just happened to run his mouth about people who have a lot of money on the line. Once again you feel the need to be misinformed, angry, and involve yourself in something.

My ability to play fantasy baseball speaks for itself. I am no Shawn, Dan, Andy, Dave Clum etc but my lifetime record is pretty ok. So once again you are misinformed and angry. Get the picture? No you will not so arguing with you only makes me angry so I choose to ignore you most of the time.

A couple of more thoughts before I part....

You should change your name to post killer- ever notice when you post the only responses you get are people either telling you that you are an angry guy or no response at all.

The idea of satellite guys not getting much respect here goes way beyond little ole me. If you want it to change come to Vegas and annoy us all in person in 2009.

This was the relatively early days of the internet, so not everyone in the league had round-the-clock internet access. Nevertheless, half of the league was camped out on the computer waiting for the official news that Wood was recalled. Someone else beat me to the Kerry punch by 10 minutes (I was out on a coffee break), and of course Wood had his Rookie-of-the-Year season. I ended up winning the league, but the experience was so maddening I swore never to play in another FCFS again. Other than one local league that I played in from 2002-2003 (hi, Kimo!), I have remained true to my word.

As for Max Scherzer, lots of hype, misinformation and red herrings over the past week. We'll know in a few hours if it was worth it.

Congrats to the winners -- I put in large $$$ bids in all my leagues for him, and got him in 2 (for 534 and 609). If that makes me a believer, then so be it.

i'm drinking the scherzer kool-aid too as i picked him up in two leagues. HQ has his projections for the remainder of 2008 as follows.

94 IP

5 W

0 S

84 K

5.07 ERA

1.59 WHIP

8.0 DOM

1.7 CMD

0.5 HR/9

i'm a huge fan of HQ, but in this case, i hope they're a little off.

Chest has more friends in this thing than anyone I know so I guess I won't worry too much about losing popularity due to my vocal olympics. If I ever run into rockit I will make sure to step it up a notch for him, though.

Kent, while you do look a little like a thin KKB, I have to ask if that was really the best picture you had of yourself? You came out looking like you had skin eating bacteria and a 104 degree fever. Even Wolfie's picture came out much better.

[/QB]How could you NOT know you resemble Bundy? Have you never looked in a mirror?

"public attacks on you"...YOU started this long ago Bundy Jr., I just don't back down to loud mouthed bullies.

Having a pretty wife just proves that money CAN buy love, else how did you "pull that off?"

I am in 4 sat's (still $800 cheaper than main)...currently in 1st, 3rd, 4th & 5th. The 4th place team is the one for a chance at free entry to Vegas...unfortunately I have JRoll & Tulo on that team so being in 4th, I feel, is pretty lucky.

Cross yer fingers for me Bundy Jr...you just might get to see true grit in person.

rockit - I think you're getting some misinformation on Chest (or making it up). Didn't know who KK Bundy was 'til I looked it up, I see its a wrestling reference. That explains the angry outbursts. You do know you're in a fantasy baseball lge here, right? Most of us act a little differently than I presume they would on a wrestling forum. Try to get with the game here, it's baseball, show a little respect.

i'm a huge fan of HQ, but in this case, i hope they're a little off. Wow, so his K/9 rate (that's what non-Shandler cronies refer to DUM, I mean DOM, as) is 8 and his BB/9 is 1.7 while he has a HR/9 (What, no cute nickname? How about MOO for moon shots?) of .5. How does that equate to the WHIP and ERA #'s as listed? Considering that Shandler told me to my face that "defense doesn't affect pitchers in fantasy" and Scherzer wouldn't lose anything for Arizona's D anyway, what exactly is Scherzer supposed to be losing credit for?
