Minor League Promo of the Week-
The Reading Phillies are having Ryan Howard-Santa Claus Snowglobe Night. Ryan Howard is in a Santa Claus suit swinging a bat....I wonder if after shaking the globe, he can miss every snowflake with his swing.
Giles
Iguchi
Gonzalez
Kouzmanoff
McAnulty
Edmonds
Greene
Bard
Seriously?
In a 40 team fantasy league this would be a bad lineup. Iguchi is their team speed. What happens if Gonzalez goes down? In these days with the bad economy and San Diego's perfect beach going weather, the Padres are still averaging over 30,000 paid per game. Seriously.
Lineups? Lets play with Pittsburgh's. As everybody knows, even before the season starts, the Pirates are going nowhere in pursuit of a pennant. They have done the right thing by cutting ties with Matt Morris. The Pirates should do a few other things to right their ship.
Here are two lineups.
Which is more intriguing and maybe be a decision maker on whether you go to their game tonight.
McLouth
Sanchez
Bay
Doumit
Nady
LaRoche
Bautista
Wilson
or
McCutchen
Sanchez
McLouth
Nady
Pearce
Bay
Doumit
Wilson
Granted, in the second lineup that Nady would be moved to 3b and Pearce plays his secondary position of 1b, but hey, the Pirates are drawing an MLB low 15,000 a night and going nowhere, what's to lose? Now, if they can just get their scouts to stay away from the Jamie Moyer seminars. Does any system crank out soft throwing lefties more than the Pirates?
The Diamondbacks are doing great. Only one aspect of their game has come to a grinding halt. The running game. Chris Young has attempted only three stolen bases all year, Byrnes has four steals to lead the team. With good team speed they should have more. Maybe complacency has reared its ugly head with their good start. 16 steals in 34 games for a speedy team leaves a lot of room for improvement.
My favorite nickname in baseball is Lance Berkman's. Opposing players call him 'Fat Elvis'.

You can routinely get good infield seats at par value or less this season as opposed to premium prices in the last few. And it isnt beach really season yet. Give it another month or so ...

When a guy is as hot as Berkman...can't they pitch around him a bit?
Carlos Lee hasn't cracked one out in like 10 games. Why not take a chance with him?

More stuff...
-Thanks for shaving off those Wolverine lamb chops, Dustin.
-Is it just me...or has slap happy swinging Jeter become Luis Castillo?
-Speaking of Jeter...he comes as close as baseball gets to being a phony soccer player selling fake injuries...the way he leans in or looks low trying to "sell a ball" that's a perfect inside strike.
-Is there enough interest and commitment by us die hard players to form a high stakes league ($5000.00 entry) that uses a "Live Auction Bidding" each Sunday night. (You could put in your blind bids as usual if you wanted to some weeks...and it would notify the live bidders that a winning bid has not yet been reached.)
-Who does KJDuke like more...(for their name)
Zach Duke or Justin Duchscherer?
-Clay Buchholz looks like you could stick a cigarette in his mouth and sit him in the skaters hangout in any high school, and he'd blend right in.
-Can we take the highest average "rainout" teams looking over past seasons "doubleheader" scheduling...and devalue those position players that don't "do two"?

~Lance Duchscherer's stuff but Duke's name, fits better on a jersey and doesn't get mispronounced 9 times out of 10.

~Lance In the '80's, I worked in a sales office with a guy named Richard Hurtz.
The #1 sales guy had a ton of fun with that one...

Imagine a scenario where a closer pays off an 8th inning guy to give up a run to make it a 3 run game (if he can afford to with his ERA)
Damn K-Rod gets all the luck.
He must think he's Underdog by now.
Curse.

Felix Pie
I think this 95 degree heat is getting to me!
Countdown to first Margarita...now!
I love hot weather!!!
Sorry for hijacking, Uncle Dan...but I love your offbeat stuff, and hoped to add a bit to it.
My Mom has her brother and his wife visiting today from Minnesota...perfect timing to have 95+ degree weather the time they are here. Pushing 100 degrees tomorrow in San Jose! They can go back and tell everyone in MIN how beautiful it is in California...and all the younger generations can dream of moving here!
WOW...it just gets hotter and hotter!...
5:17pm...San Mateo, CA *
Partly Cloudy
Partly Cloudy 102° / 61° (Severe weather alert!)
Just add ice!!!
My folks just yesterday installed a water pressurised "mister line" above where they'll be sitting down under sun umbrellas drinking cocktails. Life is good!
My computers fan doesn't stop all day!

For all of you folks here who also play in the NFFC (football) and are off to poor starts...
I just had a rush of peace and calm roll through my body as I realised that this game is not over until we have WEEK 4 OF THE NFL SEASON in the books!!!
...and you KNOW how far off that feels!
Relax...crack open an ice cold beer...and grind your way back into this thing!

Josh Hamilton is on pace for a 314 BA with 38 HR, 185 RBI. But Lance Berkman has generated more than double Hamilton's value so far, $69 vs $34.
Berkman is on pace for 394 BA, 173 R, 162 RBI, 56 HR and 26 SBs. He'd have an all-star caliber season if he continued this pace for another 6 weeks and then sat on the bench for the next 3 months.
Latham, the current NFBC leader, has 3 hitters (Berkman, Utley, Furcal) who have generated close to $140 in value between them, only 4 of his remaining hitters have generated positive value so far. His top 4 starters and closer have generated more than $20 in value each for him so far, that would equate to the top 5 pitchers in the league in a typical season (Marcum, Volquez, Hudson, Greinke and K-Rod).
