please finish the list #6 Carpenter a bust? Nothing expected, nothing lost.

#5 Smoltz was injured, and not too surprisingly, can't really qualify as a big bust.

#4 Victor Martinez, the power comes and goes, disppointing, but not a huge bust.

#3 P Anderson, a fairly large bust, but no more so than expected.

#2 E Byrnes, last yr was unsustainable, but it made him an even bigger bust this season because of inflated expectations.

#1 J Verlander, young, healthy, on the upswing, expected to pitch for an offensive juggernaut. Huge bust, at least so far.

Leading candidates for biggest busts - T Tulowitzki and Andruw Jones.

Victor has Zero home runs. I think that is a huge bust...

Victor Martinez is an absolute bust. I would say, when you factor in ADP, and Victor being taken at the 2-3 turn most of the time, I would say Victor might be the biggest bust.

Verlander a few rounds later is right behind him.

Andruw might be a bust for the Dodgers because of the contract, but from a fantasy owner perspective, if you didn't see a miserable season coming for him, then you must not have watched him at all last year. You can throw stats, rebound, regression to the mean, all that stuff out the window, Andruw failed the eye-ball test so he cannot be listed as a major bust. No way.

agree with v-mart, especially with concerns his with his ability to play full time after he returns. smoltz has been a workhorse since returning as a starter and has pitcher over 200 innings the last 3 years, so i would throw him in the bust catgory.

other bust.

miguel cabrera -arguable the worst performing 1st round pick.

jj putz - projected as top closer

jr towles -

robinson cano -

erik bedard -

Criteria for biggest bust:

1. Did not play.

2. Actively hurt your team while in there.

3. Drafted in a much higher round than his retun value was worth.

Martinez being a catcher really doesn't fit the second qualification and also does not fit the first.

I'd say Tulowitzki and Verlander are the champions so far here. Objection to Byrnes noted, but he fits the above qualifications and I'd say the worst projections for him were like 20/20 .260. He was a bust for the 3rd or 4th, would have been a bust for the 6th, 10th or 15th rounds were that where he went. He is a BUST.

Rich Hill. Probably went 8-10 in most drafts. Got nothing out of him and probably won't this entire season. Thanks for nothing!!

How about Hafner who was going anywhere from the 3rd round to the 5th round.I grabbed him in three leagues , one of the leagues early 4th round and the other two in the 5th round just couldnt pass up what i thought was great value.Well the 4 homers in 157 at bats and the 217 bavg just suck's.If he doesnt come back strong you can put him in the top 10 bust'sof the year.

I would also put Martinez in the top ten and Byrnes both have killed teams.

Biggest busts for 2008

My criterion for a bust is a player whose current numbers are so low for where he was drafted, your chances pretty much go down the toilet. Just off the top of my head ----

1. Miguel Cabrera - supposed to be a main man but playing like a 5th rounder. Still time here.

2. John Smoltz - almost a wasted pitching pick. Any high pick gone for the year by June is a bust

3. Victor Martinez - probably gone by every 4th round. Turned into a Nellie Fox with respect to power.

4. Yankee twosome of Kennedy & Hughes

5. Francisco Liriano - amazing how so much impact so few outings can have on ratios

5' 9" 178lb Alexi Casilla 94ab 3hrs

6'5" 194lb Alex Rios 265ab 3hrs

6'3" 200lb Delmon Young 245ab 1hr

- you've got to be kidding me. Every round is littered with land mines this year. I go online not to see how my players have done but to see who is hurt/benched and how I'm going to replace them.

Me and my kid sit and watch the games every night. I look over at him and tell him to lighten up already, enough of the doom and gloom...

Q - have to agree with Rios being one of the major busts. As someone a lot of owners, including myself, were looking at for 30/30 season, this second round (early) pick has shown no power. Although the SBs may be there, I'm waiting for the power to surface.

Verlander??? Hoping his last start against the White Sox is a sign of things turning around...also hoping Zumaya and Rodney coming back soon will hope some on the back end.

While I wouldn't call Ian Snell one of the biggest busts, since he went about 5-8 rounds later than other pitchers underperforming at the same level, he has definitely not been what I hoped for.

I am also disappointed with Robinson Cano, hoping he'll have nice second half.

Verlander is one of the biggest busts of the year. Possible 20 game winner and 200k's. Fat chance at that now. Be lucky for 10 wins and 150k's. Oh, and of course he's on my team.

Pete
OK - So I'm not as good as I thought I was; but at least I am consistent.

Pete True, beginning to hope he's just a second half player, but definitely not what I expected.

Also, not a bust, but a definite disappointment for me would have to be Skip Shumaker...didn't see it coming, but at least one owner in everyone of my leagues did!
