Who Is Coming To The 2005 NFBC And Where?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Jan 03, 2005 10:08 am

Let's give it up for our 86th returning team from 2004 to the NFBC in 2005 as the triumvirate of Karch Adonis of Tarzana, California, Jack Lyons and Karl Roessler return to our main event at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 19th. The Four Perps competed in Las Vegas League 5 last year and finished ninth in the league and they also competed in our National Fantasy Football Championship in September. They haven't cashed yet, but they promise a money finish this year!!! Welcome back to the fold, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. Oh, and let's have a few beers together again this year at the Welcome Reception!

Nate Ravitz of RotoTimes.com is already signed up for the NFBC's main event, but he just added the AL Auction League ($650 entry fee) to his shopping cart. Nate has finished second in LABR the last three years, which bodes the obvious question, "Why can't he win the big one?" :D I know that Rick Wolf has been his nemesis in LABR two of those three years, but Nate knows that the real payday is in the NFBC, not LABR! :D Welcome aboard, Nate, and best of luck in the hunt for the $3,500 first place prize.

Let's welcome back our 87th team from 2004 as Marty Bedell of Poughkeepsie, New York returns to the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Marty led his MGBS109 team to a fifth place finish in New York League 3 last year, finishing just four points out of the money and 53rd overall. Marty's MGBS109 team cashed out in our NFFC event and was in the playoffs battling for the $100,000 grand prize as well. Thanks for trusting in us once again, Marty, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

I always like to welcome back champions to our event and thus it gives me good pleasure to welcome back the tag team of Hojin Kyung of San Diego, California and his partner Aram Penaranda. Hojin and Aram didn't win a league title in the NFBC last year as their LB Big Richards team battled to an eighth place finish in Las Vegas League 5. But they did win the 2003 WCOFB and $30,000, thus earning one national title in the last two years. Hojin also won $5,000 for winning Las Vegas League 6 in our National Fantasy Football Championship this year. Thanks guys for trusting in us again and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. First beers on me in Las Vegas.

Let's give it up for our 89th returning NFBC team from 2004 to join the main event in 2005 as Lenny Diveglio of Medford, New York just signed up to compete at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Lenny's "baseball sevant" team finished ninth in New York League 2 last year, but he promises a money finish this year! We're glad to have you back again for 2005, Lenny, and wish you best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's give it up for Rich Verost of Hamburg, New Jersey, who becomes our 90th team from 2004 to join the NFBC's main event in 2005. Rich was unable to make the draft last year, but managed the Godfathers B.S. patrol team after Robert Mauri did the draft and led that team to a sixth place finish in Chicago League 3. He blames Robert for everything and promises a money finish this year! :D Rich will be drafting at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 16th as we are now closing in on our second full league in Manhattan. Thanks for trusting us once again, Rich, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's give it up for another new member to our growing NFBC family as Joe and David Martino of Melville, New York have just signed up for the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Joe and David competed in our National Fantasy Football Championship and had so much fun that they were hooked on the idea of trying our baseball event for the first time. They are now the 30th signup in New York, closing out our second full league there with room for plenty more. Thanks for trusting in us, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Okay, now we're starting to get some action on the Mixed Auction League in New York. Paul Sidikman of Livingston, New Jersey has become our second official member of the New York Mixed Auction League ($650 entry fee) as he is set to bid on Friday, March 18th starting at 4 p.m. at the New York Hilton for players. Paul is a first time member of the NFBC, but he competed in all three of our events in the National Fantasy Football Championship and won the New York Auction League title. He's now ready to test his skills in the baseball auction. Best of luck Jersey Paul in the hunt for the $4,250 first place prize and thanks for crossing over to baseball.

Let's welcome another new member to the growing NFBC family as Bruce Bevacqua of New Milford, New Jersey has just signed up for the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Bruce and co-manager Steve Popovchak were recommended to our event by Joe Thelen and we welcome them with open arms. Bruce is a serious fantasy baseball player, but trust me I've already asked him, he is no relation to Kurt Bevacqua. He's even surprised anyone remembers Kurt Bevacqua and his Topps card showing him blowing a big bubble gum bubble (I remembered). Anyway, we're glad to have you guys with us and we wish you best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

We welcome our 91st returning NFBC member back to the main event in 2005 as the tag team of Wilbur Soto and Michael Cunningham will be drafting again on Saturday, March 19th at the New York Hilton. The duo battled injuries last year as their Crawdaddy's team finished 12th in New York League 2 with 57 points, but they are determined to return in 2005 and put together a money finish. Thanks for trusting in us again, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Pete Lukowicz of Manalapan, New Jersey becomes our 92nd team from 2004 to return to the NFBC's main event in 2005 as he is returning to the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Pete's Ball Five team got off to a horrendous start last year and hovered near the bottom of the standings before making a late run and finishing fifth in New York League 1 with 86 points, just seven points out of a money finish. He will be teamed up with Wil Robertson in the main event and I'm sure the two will be back for the Auction League where they promise a stronger finish than they had in 2004. Pete, as always, good to have you back in our high-stakes event and we wish you best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

We're starting to get a nice little run on New York NFBC signups, which was expected. Let's give it up for another returning NFBC member from 2004 -- our 93rd returning team to date -- as Leo Savo, Jr. of Staten Island, New York and co-manager Steven Schneider signed up for the main event on Saturday, March 19th at the New York Hilton. The duo led their AMAZINS team to a seventh place finish in New York League 1 last year with 82.5 points, just 10.5 points out of the money. Thanks for trusting in us again, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Eric Price of Norwalk, Connecticut will return to the 2005 NFBC, but his signing was a long time in coming as he was still feeling the pain from the conclusion of the 2004 season. His Roenicke-Lowenstein team had a great run all year, cracking the Top 10 overall at mid-season and remaining there for much of the second half. However, in the closest race for a league title in the NFBC last year, Roenicke-Lowenstein slipped into a tie for second place with Kingman-Millan Gambit with 111 points, losing first place to Team ggg by 1.5 points. The potential prize payout went from $5,000 to $1,250, which was just enough to cover this year's signup!!! Eric's team finished 14th overall, but he's coming back for more punishment this year and hopes to leave with a league title and more in 2005. He just doesn't plan on watching the results from the final day of the season! Welcome back, Eric, to the New York draft and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Jeffrey Price of Silver Spring, Maryland had bad fortune and good fortune last year with us. His Team Price NFBC team struggled to a 13th place finish in Chicago League 3, but after deciding not to do our high-stakes football event, he entered a Mid-Season League competition and won that, earning a paid entry into the NFBC. He used Billy Volek and Larry Johnson to win the mid-season football title with 1,807.7 points and will now be competing in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 19th for the main event at the Rio with Jack Price as his co-manager. This is now our 95th returning team from 2004. Congrats on the win, Jeff, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's give it up for Brian Oldenski of Middletown, New Jersey, who just signed up to return to the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Brian becomes the 96th returning team from 2004 to return in 2005. Brian's Moneymaker team competed in the very tough New York League 4 last year, finishing seventh with 83.5 points and 69th overall. His pitching staff let him down or he would have finished in the money. Thanks for trusting in us again, Brian, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's welcome our newest member to the growing NFBC family as Brendan McGovern of Bronxville, New York just signed up for the main event on Saturday, March 19th. Brendan is new to our family of high-stakes contests, but we welcome him with open arms. Bryan Anderson of Staten Island, New York and co-manager Mike Pellegrino have become our first official registrant for the $650 AL-only Auction League in New York. Bryan and Mike led Balticsquids to a sixth place finish in the New York AL Auction League with 71 points and will be returning to the New York Hilton on Friday, March 18th at 4 p.m. for this event. I'm convinced that we will fill up this league and other auctions in New York, but we still have some work to do over these next two months. Thanks for trusting in us again, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $3,500 first place prize.

We welcome back Steve Wells of Las Vegas, Nevada to the NFBC's main event as Steve becomes our 97th team from 2004 to return in 2005. Steve's Las Vegas Ratpack team finished fifth in Las Vegas League 1 with 91.5 points, just four points out of third place and a money finish. "Nevadaman" will take home field advantage again in the NFBC this year as he returns to the Rio Hotel & Casino on Saturday, March 19th for the main event. He's also signed up for the NFBC Ultimate Draft League on Sunday, March 20th and is totally committed to competing in that debut event. Thanks for your trust and support, Steve, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize, the $5,000 league prize and the $40,000 Ultimate League prize.

Bryan Anderson and Mike Pellegrino took one day to reconsider and instead of competing in the New York AL Auction League ($650), they are instead going to do the main event in New York. I can easily make that change guys, so best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and $5,000 league prize and we'll see you on Saturday, March 19th at the New York Hilton.

Larry Lensak of Wayne, New Jersey went on the Message Boards last night and asked for reasons why he should join the NFBC in 2005. He said he was on the fence and it certainly didn't take him long to come over to our side. After a few positive responses from last year's players, Larry was being courted by fellow ESPN gamers and he took the NFBC plunge tonight, officially signing up for the main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Larry is new to our family of high-stakes contests and we're glad he found us. Thanks for trusting in us, Larry, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. Oh, and we'll buy the first beers in New York!!!

Greg Morgan has also thrown his hat into the ring to get a Mixed Auction League going in Chicago, becoming the third owner in the Windy City to say he would compete in that debut event at $650/team. Greg said he would do the NL Auction if that's where the majority of owners go, but right now he would prefer the Mixed Auction League. The starting time for the NL and/or Mixed Auction League is 4 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare, so let's get that going. Thanks Greg and let's hope we can get one of those going and give you a chance to win the league prize.

The signups keep coming in this morning as we're closing in on our ninth full NFBC league. Let's welcome back our 98th NFBC team from 2004 to the 2005 main event as the tag team of Win Murray of Chicago, Illinois and Jay Pobis will be returning to the Chicago Oakbrook Marriott on Saturday, Sept. 3. Win and Jay led Dixie Walkers to an eighth place finish last year in Chicago League 1, finishing with 81 points as the offense accounted for just 31 points. Win and Jay promise a winning season this year as they are excited to return to the main event. Thanks for trusting in us again, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Joseph called this morning and said he saw our event last year, watched the Message Boards throughout the year and had no doubt he would be joining us in Las Vegas for the 2005 event. We're glad to have you on board, Joseph, and we'll even top it off with a round of beers in Sin City.
