Robert Jurney Is The 2008 NFBC Overall Champion
Congratulations to Robert Jurney for finishing first in the NFBC this year. Robert has been with us since 2005 in both baseball and football. This was a great race to the finish with several teams in the hunt vying for the $100,000 grand prize. Robert's team emerged with the title, making him the fifth different overall champion in our event's history.
Congratulations again to Robert. We'll have more on his championship season in the days and weeks to come.

Congratulations Robert as you made a steady climb down the stretch run before finally taking hold of the overall title during the last two weeks. Great job as this was definitely one of the closest overall races in our five years, won by another classy champion who has been a dedicated NFBC member since 2005. CONGRATS and get ready for being on the cover of our next Fantasy Sports Magazine!!

Robert - Awesome job. What was the secret to your success this year (as opposed to last year)?

Great work, Bobby! All the way from 389th in the first few weeks to 1st in the end. Amazing. I told the folks back in the fun league about your accomplishment.

Thanks everyone, what a roller coaster year as Brian stated in his post. Got as low as 389 in week 2 to first in week 25. Last year was just an absolute disaster, starting with my first 2 picks of Tex and Haf. Counted on 80 plus homers and got about 60, if that. Mark, I think you can agree, there are 3 things during the season, luck at the draft, luck of the league draw and free agent pickups. I think all 3 count just about the same, all 3 are extremely important in their own way. I really learned from alot of my mistakes from last year

Congratulations Bobby J on your memorable season.
Enjoy the year ahead. Some of the things to look forward to.
By the end of the month you'll receive a letter from from Krause Publications, Inc., that will contain a check with your name on it and the check will have six digits to the left of the decimal point. Just guessing but I doubt that to many people ever get to experience that. You'll want to hold off cashing it right away as you'll want to show it off a little bit. Plan on taking it to the bank when you do deposit it as I'm told ATM machines won't take deposits of that amount.
In November the large check that you hold for your magazine cover picture will arrive. I suggest keeping that prominently displayed throughout the next year as anytime your wife complains that you're spending too much time with your fantasy baseball, you can just point to that check. Guaranteed to at least temporarily keep her quiet. I'll have to let you know next year if this works in year two.
In January one day you'll go to your mailbox and you'll get the thrill of having a magazine arrive with your picture on the cover of it. That might not sound like that big of a deal but I guarantee when it happens it will be an exciting moment.
Then next March at the draft make sure your hands are clean as you will shake hands with more people than you even imagined. You'll get far more congratulations than you are getting now on message boards, pm's and e-mails.
And if you go to Las Vegas you may even get the pleasure of having Brady Tinker call you Champ all weekend. And he doesn't even call any of the Dallas Cowboys that.
And if someone is insensitive enough to suggest that you were just lucky .... So What!
You Are The Champ!!!

Thanks Terry, that was a great post, the time table of events was a great help, because of course the wife is asking when the check will get here. Talking to some friends today about the big cardboard check, does it fold up or it is in a 3 ft by 6 ft box. I thought my picture being on one of the pages of the mag when I won a league 2 years ago was a big deal, I am sure the experience will just blow me away. My Vegas trips are for fun, hard to find enough time in a weekend to do the drafts and find enough time for the poker tables, so Chicago will be my home for drafting for the foreseeable future.

Bobby, congratulations man. I remember walking around the Chicago draft room back in March and looking at all the teams like the most of us do after the drafts conclude. As I walked around the room, there was a certain team that caught my eye. That team had Pujols and Cabrera fall to them along with some other nice value picks. I told myself that was a team that really scared me. As the season moved along I forgot about your team. As the Quahogs and I were battling it out during August and early September, I could see you in the rear view mirror. I then remebered your team as I looked at the roster. Even though I was still leading with two weeks to go, I knew all along that you had the best team. I wish I didn't lose Quentin and Kinsler and them maybe we could have had a battle for the ages, but your championship was well deserved, you clearly had the best team. Enjoy the perks that come with being the man.

Thanks again everyone. Kevin, that is usually a curse when you love your team after the draft but I did feel I was in a good position with a little luck during the season. Players just kept falling to me and I had to change on the fly. Manny in the 4th, Guillen in the 5th, Bay in the 8th and Damon in the 12th to name a few. I thought we were absolutely stacked hitting and that end up being the weaker of the 2. Pitching really over exceeded our expectations. Getting Cliff Lee in week 2 did not hurt either
