All I can promise is that you won't ever find a Leaderboard team that gives up, stops trying or drafts guys who everyone knows are injured and out for the year on draft day

Past that - good luck fellas, compete hard and I hope you're not in my league!

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Jan 20, 2005 3:11 pm

We have officially gone past the halfway point in our goal of attracting 300 teams for the NFBC's main event, thanks to the signup of Michael Miranda of Scotch Plains, New Jersey tonight. Michael is new to our family of high-stakes events/contests and we welcome him with open arms. Michael will be drafting alone at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th, where we are now working on our fourth league for the main event there and 11th overall. Thanks for your trust and support, Michael, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Okay, let's get back to the signups now that I'm back from CubsFest. Appropriately, our next signup for the NFBC's main event comes from Brent Grooms of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, who will be drafting live at the Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare on Saturday, March 19th. Brent is new to our family of high-stakes events/contests and he's been inquiring about the NFBC on the Message Boards for a few weeks now. We're glad he finally feels comfortable with the group and is ready to take on the challenge. As I said in another post, Brent, it's always good to have a fellow Cheesehead in the contest. Thanks for trusting in us and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Just a quick note: Richard Bales of Lincoln, Nebraska is transferring from the NL Auction League ($1,250) in Las Vegas to the main event. The schedule works out better for Richard to draft on Saturday, March 19th. We have one opening now in the NL Auction League again, but I believe someone has already inquired about filling it. We'll have that league full soon enough. Good luck Richard in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Chris Throop of New York City has become our latest new member of the growing NFBC family as he signed up this weekend for the Mixed Auction League ($650) in Las Vegas. We now have 14 members for that auction, with one spot left. Chris is new to our family of high stakes events/contests and it looks like he will also be joining us for the main event shortly (at least that's what he said on another thread!). Welcome aboard, Chris, and you're making a wise move by coming to Las Vegas in March for some baseball, basketball and fun! :D Thanks for trusting in us and best of luck in the hunt for the $4,250 first place prize.

Gerard Venezia is new to the National Fantasy Baseball Championship, but he's not new to high-stakes fantasy events, having competed in the WCOFB the last two years and the WCOFF the last three years. He was close to winning the debut WCOFB title two years ago, but finished just short. Now he's ready to try his hand in the NFBC, signing up for the main event on Saturday, March 19th at the New York Hilton. Thanks for trusting in us, Gerard, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Hey Greg!

I'm thinking of joining your league for baseball. Looks to me like you're up and running...and have established dominance in the high stakes fantasy baseball field.

Rob Z (Zmen) speaks highly of you, and I respect his opinion.

I see Mr. Gekko here...he's a respected rival.

I have another friend who is interested as well...but I'm not sure if he wants to go as a team or solo. I'd rather play solo...so I hope to convince him to get a partner or play solo as well.

I've played WCOFF the last two seasons, and love it. If we sign up this year for your NFBC 2005...we'll be going to Vegas!

Lance, we'd love to have you and I know you are an active Message Boarder, which we always like here. Our NFBC is cruising along just fine and I think you'll recognize many of our participants. Jump in this free-for-all and enjoy the rumble! :D

Rob and I have been talking and he seems like a good guy. I know he's had good success in football and he's even written a book about it. I wouldn't mind doing business with the guy someday as he has some outstanding ideas.

Bring 'em all to the NFBC and I'll reward you with beers, beers, beers and more beers! :D I'm from Wisconsin and that's how we settle our bets around here. Las Vegas will be wild as we already have 86 signups for the main event there and will likely finish with 8-10 full leagues. That could be some fun, if you know what I mean.

Touch base with me anytime at 715-445-4612, ext. 284 or at [email protected]. You'll always get a warm welcome from Tom and I, and even a free drink if you don't watch out. I'll be in Las Vegas, so hopefully we'll hook up there.

Let's give it up for yet another new member of the growing NFBC family as the tag team of Rob Sussman of Riverside, California and Jim Sawkins has just signed up for the NFBC's main event at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 19th. Rob competed in the WCOFB in 2003 and has competed in the WCOFF the last couple of years, but needed a break from the big baseball event last year. Now he's ready to jump back in and there's no better place to do it than with the NFBC and in Las Vegas for Draft Day! :D Welcome aboard, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's welcome back our 109th team from 2004 to the 2005 main event as the tag team of Mike Williams and Scott Gunaca of FantasyJungle.com are returning to the scene of the crime in Las Vegas! :D Mike and Scott are serious fantasy players and you'll see them entered in most fantasy contests. They got off to a great start last year in Las Vegas League 2 and were in the Top 10 overall during much of the first half of the season, but fell towards the end and finished sixth in the league with 87 points and 89th overall. Mike and Scott will be back at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to improve on that finish. Thanks for the trust and support, guys, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. Oh, and anyone looking for a good online fantasy baseball game this year should check out FantasyJungle.com as they run a first-class game.

Thanks Greg!

I'd be interested in playing poker as well should you guys put a game together in Vegas. It would be cool to run into some of the pro's down there.

I like beers plenty...but if you want to make me truely happy...it's Tequilla and Orange Juice! (haaaaaaaargh!)

You should play online with us Gekko...some good competition. (and your sleepers aren't bad). (I just won't talk politics with you, and we can be friends.)

Cya.

We're working on the poker game right now with Perry and Tom, who put the WCOFF game together in September. I'm going to talk with Tom tomorrow and get more details. Having just NFBC guys playing poker would be fun if the vig is right.

Mixed drinks are cool too. I can do that! :D

I'm not talking politics with GG, either. Just baseball and football.

Greg, RT Davis has indicated to me that he will be signing up for the mixed league vegas 650$ event - I told him there was 1 more spot and he is going to sign up tonight!!

I hope that you can put in a hold for him for a day. Is this possible?

Thanks for having me - I can't wait to beat Gekko - I have been reading these boards and he sounds like the guy to gun for

It will be fun to see if winning my ESPN league 7 out of 8 years will translate into winning here!

Regards,

Chris

Tell RT to get busy! He who snoozes loses. John Menna grabbed that last spot in the Las Vegas Mixed Auction League, but we'll keep going and see if we can fill another one or if someone decides to switch leagues we'll make it work for him. It's still Jan. 24th and there's plenty of time to fill up another league.

Give me a holler at 715-445-4612, ext. 284 and we'll see if we can accommodate RT!!!

It looks like our first issue of Fantasy Sports Magazine got to subscribers this weekend and I know it will be on national newsstands this weekend. It has already paid off as Troy Pasley of Canton, Illinois gets our magazine and said he got real excited about competing in the NL Auction League in Chicago. Troy has signed up for the NL Auction League in the Windy City on Friday afternoon, March 18th and he would do a $650 or a $1,250 league, whatever gets the most signups.

Troy's friend, Scott Flack of Canton, Illinois, also wants to do an NL Auction League. They would love to be in separate leagues, but we need to fill this one first. So far we have four for the NL Auction in Chicago and four for the Mixed Auction League with two of those guys saying they would do an NL Auction League if the Mixed doesn't fill up. Hell, let's fill them both up! :D We still have plenty of time, so let's keep the signups coming and we'll see how the final numbers come out.

Thanks Troy and Scott and best of luck in the hunt for the $3,750 first place prize.

Hey Greg,

I see that you're a cub fan. Does that mean you'll be running the draft in Chicago?

Obviously you can't be at all three draft sites. Who runs the draft in the other two cities?

I'm not a Cubs fan!!! I just worked at CubsFest last weekend to promote the NFBC! But I did sleep at a Holiday Express! :D

I'm in Las Vegas, Tom Kessenich will be running Chicago and Rocky Landsverk will be running New York. You'll love all of us! :D

Let's welcome our 110th team back from 2004 to the 2005 main event as the tag team of Mark Yagan and Barry Fishman of Overland Park, Kansas will be competing in Chicago at the Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare on Saturday, March 19th. Mark and Barry led Appleton Hays to a fourth place finish in Las Vegas League 3 last year with 101.5 points, finishing 43rd overall. Appleton Hays had a nice season, but missed out on the money in a very tough league where 125 points won the league title. Great job guys and thanks once again for supporting the NFBC. Oh, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Let's give it up for another new member of the growing NFBC family, although this one has some roots to us! The tag team of Stephen Perrella and Joseph Palombini has just signed up to compete in the NFBC's main event at the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Joe was a silent partner in last year's NFBC team owned by Michael Edelman and Mike Cuellar, and this year he decided to grab his own team with Stephen. We're glad to have you guys on board and we wish you best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize. Thanks for trusting in us and the first drink is on us!!!

Todd Lammi of Union City, California is already signed up for the NL Auction League ($1,250 entry fee) in Las Vegas, but he decided it was a good day to play two and has now added the AL Auction League ($650) to his shopping cart in Las Vegas on Friday, March 18th. We now have six signups for that debut league and need six more. Thanks Todd for supporting us again and best of luck in the hunt for the $3,500 first place prize.

Chris Fargis of Brooklyn, New York desperately wants to compete in an NL Auction League in New York, but he's concerned about the lack of signups to date. I told him that our New York participants like to wait a little longer before committing, but I guaranteed him that I would do everything I could to get a league going in New York, so don't let me down folks. Chris is signed up for the NL Auction League ($1,250) at the New York Hilton on Friday, March 18th, giving us two signups for that with 11 more to go. He would do the $650 NL Auction League if that fills first or a $650 AL Auction League instead, but his first preference is the big NL Auction League. C'mon, guys, let's start committing to the New York Auction Leagues and get those filled up. Thanks Chris and good luck in the hunt for the $7,500 first place prize.

Let's give it up for our 111th NFBC team from 2004 to return to the 2005 main event as Christopher Fleming has officially joined the fold, returning to the New York Hilton on Saturday, March 19th. Chris has competed in our high-stakes baseball and football events and last year his LaJolla Lux team finished seventh in New York League 2 with 84.5 points, good enough for 97th overall. Chris is also signed up for the NFBC Ultimate Draft League on Sunday, March 20th as he likes the odds of winning $40,000 there. Good luck in the Ultimate League, Chris, and best of luck here in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

We welcome back our 112th team from 2004 to the 2005 main event as the tag team of Brian Zeid of Mayfield Heights, Ohio and Jerry Sloan (the Utah coach?) return to the Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare on Saturday, March 19th. Brian and Jerry competed in Chicago League 1 last year and their FUPayMe team struggled to a 13th place finish with 53.5 points. But they are even more confident this year than they were last year when they came up with that team name and are ready for a money finish in 2005! Thanks guys for trusting and supporting us again and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Our newest member of the growing NFBC family is claiming home field advantage in Las Vegas as Ed Garcia of Las Vegas has just signed up for the main event at the Rio Hotel & Casino on Saturday, March 19th. Ed is new to our family of high-stakes contests and we welcome him with open arms. Thanks for trusting in us, Ed, and best of luck in the hunt for the $100,000 grand prize and the $5,000 league prize.

Ed has also signed up for the AL Auction League ($650 entry fee) on Friday afternoon, March 19th, bringing us up to seven owners for that 12-team league. Let's fill that one up and try for another one! Thanks again for your support and trust, Ed, and best of luck in the hunt for the $3,500 first place prize in that event.
