Any Interest In Early $125 Satellite League Draft?

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Jan 07, 2009 5:39 am

I've had some NFBC owners e-mailing me to say that I should kick off the Satellite League season earlier than late February. I'm all for hosting any type of money draft if there's enough interest, but past history has shown me that it's tough to get folks to jump in this early. But Shawn Childs has proven me wrong!! :D

Anyway, I'll gladly host a draft at anytime and folks seem to enjoy a Tuesday night, Wednesday night or Thursday night at $125 or $250 per team. If anyone is interested, just put your name on this list and we'll see if we can come up with 15 die-hards for a date in January or February. If not, then we'll officially kick off the NFBC Satellite League season in late February. Thanks either way and let's get this winter over with and baseball here!! :D

Some juice for the next 2 months plus they're very easy to maintain in season.
Absolutely we can do these. Geoff at MockDraftCentral.com said he's ready when we are. Great idea as I almost forgot about those babies.

So I'll offer two options: $125 Online Sat anytime in late January early February (maybe between the Super Bowl) and a slow draft at $125 or $250 for anyone who is interested. Let's crank up the baseball interest.

The slow draft allows you to make a pick in like 24 hours, so you'll be getting an email everytime there's a pick and when it's your turn you can jump on the site and make your pick at your convenience. I can't remember how long the football slow drafts took, but I bet it's something that would be done in a week to two weeks and then the league would run like any other satellite league. It allows people to draft at their leisure and not be tied down to a computer for 3+ hours. They work well and MDC.com does a good job by e-mailing everyone when a pick is made.

The Draft Champions rules aren't posted, but I'll do that soon. Basically it's a format we created where you pick 40 players in the draft and then you don't make any pickups during the year. You set your weekly lineups just like any NFBC league, but your player pool for the entire year is the 40-man roster you drafted. Pretty cool and Steve is right, a slow draft for 40 rounds combined with the Draft Champions format could be a lot of fun and worth the price of admission.

Greg-

Either draft option sounds great, and I don't care where Sandoval is eligible.

Judging from the responses you've received in just the last few hours, I think you'll have enough participants for at least one league. How about an official sign up list?

Ask and ye shall receive...thanks Greg!

Will either of these drafts follow the Draft Champions format (40 man rosters, no FAAB)?
For a 45 man roster with 15 teams, what kind of time limit would be set on picks to get it done? 675 players with 87 days from today until opening day that is 8 players a day if we start now. Obviously we hit some nice runs, but didn't we have a 24 hour clock or was it 12 in your football draft?

I had them do a 10-hour clock in the last football draft to get it done before the season, but I think 12 would be better for this one.

We should talk to Geoff about having the option to have an immediate auto-pick from your queue. He told me last yr they could add that offseason, but we didnt have it for football.

Yeah the auto pick option would help a ton. I say Mike and I would be in for this as we wanted to try a DC for Baseball.

Yeah, 12 hours would be fine and having the auto-pick option is fine. Let's do this format at $250 and see how many takers we get. If you're going to spend this much time on a 45-round draft, it should be for at least $250, right?
I started a new thread Greg - I also emailed Geoff about the autopick. He would need to program that, right now autopick doesn't go until time runs out - what we need is a function that says "make an auto-pick from my queue when its my turn". But this should be an optional setting than can be turned on and off, also if the queue is empty no autopick should be made until time is expired.

Geoff said for football he could program this offseason.
