Eligibility List/Dollar Values/Rankings All On Main Site

Post by Tom Kessenich » Mon Jan 19, 2009 8:57 am

Thanks to STATS for inputting our Eligibility List, Dollar Values and Rankings on the Main Web Site. The links are available on the right side of the page.

Just a reminder, we will again be providing a final Eligibility list onsite for every live event. It will also be posted on the Message Boards. The list on the NFBC site is a preliminary list to help everyone begin planning for their drafts and/or auctions.

Pujols is missing from the overall player rankings and player eligibility sections. He is, however, listed in the NL dollar value area.

These names are misspelled in the position eligibility lists:

C Clint Simmons s/b Clint Sammons

C Miguel Oliva s/b Miguel Olivo

1B Robb Quinlann s/b Robb Quinlan

1B Adam Rosalex s/b Adam Rosales

2B Alexi Cassila s/b Alexi Casilla

3B Brian Busher s/b Brian Buscher

3B Chones Figgins s/b Chone Figgins

3B Matt Gamel s/b Mat Gamel

OF Skip Schmaker s/b Skip Schumaker

OF Austkin Kearns s/b Austin Kearns

OF Joe inglett s/b Joe Inglett

If anyone thinks this is nattering, my apologies; but, while at least these errors are just typos, there is an issue in the fantasy sports industry caused by the inconsistent use of names and numerical IDs. Each source may use their own numerical ID, and, worse, may use their own idea of playername. This can include: Mike vs Michael, Jon vs Jonathan, BP adds an underscore to names, etc.; the list of issues is quite long. To anyone using database queries to compare player information from one source to another, it's a nightmare.

I have created a spreadsheet that maps the playernames and IDs (if used) from several sources. You can download it here. You will probably only find it useful if you use MySQL or something similar. You may notice that it still contains some errors; I try to be thorough, but my interest is the pool of draftable talent, not everyone for whom there is a projection out there.

Well, I guess if I'm gonna provide a list, I oughta get it right. Ryan Spillborghs should be Ryan Spilborghs, and, in the interest of full disclosure, Paul Lo Duca, Jerry Hairston, and Jorge De La Rosa have all had their names mangled.

There are also several cases where there is a period after a player's name (Grady Sizemore for example), and also cases where a letter may or may not be capitalized (Brian Mccann, Cc Sabathia, etc.). If yer dying to have everything corrected, get the spreadsheet.

If anyone at NFBC wants the complete list in order to make _all_ the changes, just let me know.
