MLB Contract Lge-MLBC/5
MLB Contract Lge-MLBC/5
There were a number of guys left out of the Duke Invitational that wanted in, some also were concerned with the potentially high league cost. So, I will sponsor another, this one at the rate of $5 per $1 million in contract value (rather than $10). I'll designate this the MLBC/5 league.
This will be a slow draft on Mock Draft Central, thus you should be prepared to spend 2 weeks checking in frequently throughout each day (or be reachable by text message or email for your pick).
MLBC/5 League Summary
- Estimated average cost $400-600
- Starting date TBD, estimated mid-February
- Draft Champion format, 45-round slow draft
- KDS to determine draft slots.
- 31RR, serpentine draft reverses to begin rd 31
You will determine your own entry cost ($125 minimum) based on the players you draft. Players will cost $5 per every one million of their actual salary during the first 30 rounds of the draft (with a league minimum $2 corresponding to the MLB $400,000 league minimum salary). All players from rounds 31-45 will cost the league minimum $2 regardless of salary. I will post a comprehensive list of player salaries prior to the draft.
The NFBC will charge $125 per team and payout a free NFBC entry (or $1300) to first place and $200 to second place. There will be a secondary pool based on your team payroll that functions like a private league; in all other respects this league will function like any other NFBC $125 draft champions league. The secondary pool will pay the top 3 teams in addition to a bonus "Manager of the Year" payout for the team that most out-performs their payroll. Email for details on the secondary pool: [email protected].

The "Manager of the Year" will be designated as follows: The aggregate payroll for all teams will be totalled. The percentage of each individual team payroll will then be determined in relation to the entire league and multiplied by the total number of league roto points (which is 1,200 points). For example, if the league's entire payroll is 7,500 and your team payroll is 375, then your team would be 5% of the total (375/7,500). This percentage will be multiplied by 1,200 points to get your "benchmark" points, so in this case the benchmark would be 60 points (5% x 1200). The minimum benchmark will be 40 points, so if the above calculation falls below this for any team their benchmark will instead be 40. The team that finishes with the most points over their benchmark will win "Manager of the Year".

Three teams are signed up and I've PM'd 4-5 others who wanted in but missed out on the Duke Invitational - so we should be about half-full leaving 7-8 open spots.
I will have draft commishioner status on MDC for this league, so we should be able to keep a good pace going for a slow draft (I'd expect ~3 rds per day). The first league filled in 24 hours, so email me or post below if you want a spot.

Just so I understand the guidelines correctly, If the total cost of the players I drafted was $500, would I then have to add the $125 league fee on top of that for a total of $625?...or is $125 the minimum your team can cost?...for instance if the total value of the players I drafted was only $100, I'd still owe $125 total.

With the first MLBC draft getting rave reviews from all participants (at least when my back isn't turned), I'll try to ramp up #2.

From a guy in the first draft, you're nuts if you don't at least give this a try. Intriguing at every turn. Play for the Championship, play for the 20% return for best Manager. Budget or not. A blast.
On my tombstone-

Sorry changing my post as I won't be able to make this one.
Great concept though Kevin.
Greg I expect this will be a regular feature of early season drafts from now on.

Kevin,
I do have some interest and you can consider me a probable. I have to be honest the main reason I have stayed out is I have heard one participant in particular who is already registered takes forever. Can we be guaranteed this thing moves along at a pretty decent pace.

Chest, I think the problem was mostly the lack of a commish in those other lges - the individual of which I think you speak was in our first slow draft and we did 45 rounds in 8-9 days, and after a slow start he got with the pace.
I'll put you on the list for now, once we get full you can decide for sure.

Just to be clear, I expect this league to be done in two weeks. This means we have a pace of 3 rounds per day, and that will include a few inevitably slow days - so plan on doing 4-5 rds on a good day. If you are away from a computer but can be reached otherwise, I will be able to post picks for you.
To average 45 picks per day means no one should be averaging more than 1 hour per pick during the "awake hours". So, if you take 5 hours on one pick, your next 5 should be ready to go within 10-15 minutes to keep your average near one hour. If you can't come close to this pace, this draft isn't for you.
How's that?
