MLB Contract Lge-MLBC/5

Post by mikenj46 » Tue Feb 03, 2009 1:35 pm

Again, unfortunately I am not able to participate in this type of league because I simply don't have the money it would take to compete! I think the idea is awesome though, very unique and takes fantasy baseball to the next level of actually making you the GM of your team.

With that said, I've been thinking of other takes on this type of league and wanted to see what kind of interest it draws for future seasons. If the idea of fantasy baseball is to really be a GM(draft, FA, etc)how about taking the Duke concept and making it an auction with actual money.

Just like MLB, no salary cap, just pure capitalism. Spend wisely as everyone reaches a limit at some point. This would truly show the value of each player as opposed to what MLB sees their salary as, the "GMs" would determine each players salary. It would also test the skill of these GMs because there would be different bargains and steals in each draft depending on how people spent on star players.

Anyone think something like this would be plausible and interesting or too complicated???

Ok, we're up to 10 players now.

Chris - I added you to the list since we may not start before feb-20 (my estimated start date was appx feb-15). If we start sooner that you can do it we'll look for someone to take your place.

With the strict implementation of your concept there wouldn't be enough money in the prze pool -unless it was a high roller league - which would require some kind of sponsorship or back to no money.

Have an 11th owner now and maybe a 12th. So 3 spots available for sure. Don't delay if you're interested.

Hook and Chet,

I am somewhat mistified by the comments on the boards about me "taking forever". The fact is that I averaged better than 1 hour per pick (excluding overnights)and excluding round 1 pick 1 when I didn't know the draft had started. (Probably even including that -- I haven't done exact calculation).

It is true that I don't hang out in the chat room 24/7 which seemed to bother a couple of people.

JS Actually the first pick was under twelve minutes.....BUT 12 picks were more than 1 hour - many of them over 2 hours. Average doesn't really cut it when people think they should be up in a reasonable amount of time and then aren't.

Then again, KJ was not there cracking the whip

C'mon Jimmy!

Embrace it...you're an icon!

I agree...you did well after round 3...no real complaints.

I am in, if I spend all of my money before the season starts in DC's then I can spend more time during the season on my main event team

So 30% of the time I was offine for more than an hour (rarely over 2 hours) and you think that doesn't cut it? You and I must have very different life styles.

Who wants a piece of last year's NFBC champ in this one? Three more spots to fill, maybe 4.

One, or maybe two spots left in this league.

Right now I'm thinking we'll try to get started Thursday or Friday of next week.

Yes, let's get this rolling. Draft will start next Thursday, Feb 12, High Noon (eastern time).

Everyone send me your KDS for this league. Is a Saturday noon deadline OK with all?

As soon as I have all I will post a draft order and send everything to Greg. (I'll try to get JZ to randomize the selections for me, as I did last time).

My KDS is 1-15, so as not to have any conflct of interest. Also, we have a 15th owner, I just don't know if it is Chris or Kelly, will finalize that today.

Nice job Kevin. Are the salaries in the other thread the ones that will be used for this league or are you going to update them?

KJ,

Know I missed the boat on this, but if for some reason something opens up and someone backs out let me know.
