Wow! We never had a shot at Albert at 10 or team 9 may have had the same start as team 10 in the 2nd draft!
Nice going Andre!
Bobby, who did you get with your early pick?

Bobby, who did you get with your early pick? I'll share. Out of the 8 hole:
R1-Miggy Cab
R2-Tex. Couldn't resist and somebody had to keep pace with Andre.
R3-Corey Hart. Sticker shock after the first two? Maybe but I wanted a 20-20 guy and Hart's alot cheaper than Beltran.
R4-Utley. Definitely couldn't resist.
R5-After an almost 2 hour rain delay of my own making, I felt the need to rock the house: CC Sab, crooked hat and all.
I won't begin to discuss some of the bizarre strategies being employed in this draft.

Very solid. Great start. After doing version 1.0 of this format, I imagine the strategies are running the gamut from bizarre to crazy to genius to just plain insanity.

The Hogchilds (Hogchildren?) opened with:
Lincecum
Hamels
Liriano
Ichiro
and upon learning that Ichiro was not a pitcher (since he is Japanese they thought somehow he must be) they came back in the next four rounds with:
Broxton
Lester
Greinke
Taveras
Upon discovering that they drafted Taveras the OF and not Julian Tavarez the pitcher, they righted the ship and closed out the first ten rounds with
Kershaw
Fuentes.

Another MLBC style league in the books. Another great group of players. Thanks everyone for playing.
Here are the draft stats/ average time on the clock per pick - great job by everyone, even faster than the first one!
David Shovein 4 min
Jupinka/Childs 5 min
KJ Duke 5 min
Andre Bourcier 6 min
Emory Upchurch 8 min
Greg Morgan 9 min
Terry Haney 10 min
Bobby Jurney 10 min
Shawn Young 10 min
Uganski/Wells 10 min
Cincotta/GLY 11 min
Jim Stanard 14 min
Blumenreich/Kaplan 20 min
Mike Rosenblum 29 min
Rick Thomas 31 min
In addition to the top 3, this league has a Mgr of the Year payout for the team that most outperforms their payroll. The team that beats their benchmark points (a formula based on payroll) wins MOY. Here are the benchmarks (minimum 40) for each team:
J Blume/ L Kaplan 159.0
Shawn Young 154.5
Emory Upchurch 130.5
Terry Haney 106.5
Greg Morgan 102.5
Andre Bourcier 100.0
Rick Thomas 91.0
Bobby Jurney 90.5
KJ Duke 52.0
Jim Stanard 47.5
Jupinka/ Childs 43.0
K Uganski/ S Wells 40.0
David Shovein 40.0
Mike Rosenblum 40.0
Tony Cincotta/ GLY 40.0

Dave, if the young talent comes thru you could make it interesting in the Mgr of the Yr category.
I had the highest payroll among the 7 small market teams. So I've got to outscore the lowest 4 payroll teams by at least 12 points to win the MOY. My strategy was to go after hitting categories with an eye on value players, and save budget with an all-RP strategy (first time I've tried this), to end up with a relatively low payroll. Wish I could've kept it a little lower - once I decided on my strategy the objective became stay close to Jupinka/Childs who employed a different category-punting strategy - but I wanted also to have a shot at sneaking into 3rd place money while competing for MOY. With the MLBC draft season coming to a close, here is how my team came out:
Ca- R Doumit, J Clement, C Ruiz, D Ross, R Castro
1b- P Fielder, Carlos Pena,
3b- C Davis, H Blalock, Andy LaRoche, G Dobbs
2b- J Baker, B DeWitt, K Frandsen, M Teahen, R Vazquez
Ss- Hanley Ramirez, A Gonzlez, J Donald, R Santiago
Of- Vlady, Hawpe, Milledge, Dukes, Bourne, M Bradley, Spilbourghs, D Fowler, C Patterson
Sp- CS Baek, J Campillo, T Hudson, S Hill, Z Duke
Rp- Marmol, Jenks, Lyon, Ziegler, Kuo, T Walker, R Perez, J Ceda, M Batista, Isringhausen, J Kinney
Can I overcome up to a 12-pt disadvantage vs the other small market teams, and do I have enough offense to make it work against the big 3 spenders? hmmmm ... I executed the plan, and I think there's a chance it could work, but I could just as easily have blown my chance at both sides of the payout by trying to walk the tightrope.

I finished with the second highest payroll. The goal going in was to try to be mid-market ($700 or so) but after three rounds it was clear the mid-market was serious kiss-your-sister territory. If Oxana Fyodorova was my sister I wouldn't really mind, but a quick check of the family tree revealed I have no sisters whatsoever.
Bourcier had opened with Pujols and A-Fraud, but MOTY looked even more crowded. I thought the gap at the top would be easier to make up and I could shoot at three places instead of just one. I held my breath and started buying, spending $1169. It was clear that I was going to have to punt something, so I figured that Saves were the most isolated category if my starting pitching could keep the ERA under 4. I punted saves to the reserve rounds, and figured I might be able to vulture enough saves to get 5 points by season's end.
C: Towles, Teagarden, Olivo
1B: Berkman, Delgado, Swisher (OF)
2B: Uggla, Scutaro (3B, will start season at SS?)
3B: Aramis, Chipper
SS: Reyes, Greene, Punto (2B)
OF: Crawford, Werth, Dye, Abreu, DeJesus, Drew, Melky
SP: Haren, Beckett, Burnett, Meche, Pettitte, Sonnanstine, Uehara, Wandy, Gio, Buerhle
RP: Putz, Rodney, CJ Wilson, Crain, Okajima, Madson, Accardo, Affeldt, Hawkins, Farnsworth, Mijares, Romero, Acosta, Julio, Pinto.
