Live Chat Tonight At 6 ET

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Jan 29, 2009 8:54 am

If anyone wants to get on the boards tonight and talk baseball, Gekko has volunteered to lead the discussion. He's pumped up after drafting last night in the NFBC Magazine 2 League and wants to talk baseball. He's driving home from work now and wanted me to post this for him. I'll be around for a bit to talk as well before going home and doing 8th Grade math with my daughter!! :D Damn, that stuff is testing my brain again.

Okay, see ya in a few hours and come with questions ahead of time. What the heck, post them between now and 6 and I'm sure someone will provide an answer or an opinion.

Why do you suppose there's such a fine line between having a good draft and having a bad draft? You drafted your Super a mere hours after drafting your Main. You didn't get dumb in 1/2 hour. What are your thoughts on this ?
The subject matter had relevance, but the example given was too extreme.

In any event, I got the message.

You can consider that a legitimate, firm offer. If others are willing, that could net you a $30 total!

Toss out the exhaustion factor and change gears i.e. draft slot factor.

GG....looking at your the draft results from last night...I'm curious why you chose Ortiz over Youkilis in the 4th round. I noticed you had already drafted Arod and Morneau, but Youk having duel position elig. 1st/3rd would of made a great backup. With Ortiz only having DH elig.,I'm assuming you see a big enough difference in projections for you to take a DH player over a player with 1st/3rd elig....How big a difference is it?

Do you think your main event team will be better than the team you draft last night? If So, why?

With the new moniker Gordon Gekko II, I thought it would be the new and improved Gekko. After 20 votes and a two star rating, the fans don't seemed to be seeing any better results. Do you feel slighted?

Thanks Eddy Eddy – There are so many busts to pick from!!! Let’s see. How about Manny Ramirez? The guy is too old. He’s a bad apple. And he’s being drafted at a premium this year. GG doesn't touch him unless 4th round or later.

What are your thoughts on this ? Quahogs – My Super demise last year was a combination of a lot of things. I’ll try to list them…

1. Fear. After doing my main event Saturday, I was worried my draft would find its way into the hands of some of my Sunday competitors. That caused me to vastly overdraft a few of “my” Saturday players by two rounds on Sunday.

2. Underestimated competition – I incorrectly thought that some of my value picks on Saturday would be there on Sunday. I was wrong.

3. Deviation from plan. I drafted a number of teams last year, and I can tell you I don’t like to draft RP’s too early. For some reason I decided to deviate from my plan when Putz was still on the board in the fifth.

4. I just wasn’t good enough! No one wins all their leagues, right? ;)

#1 - What do you think the #1 mistake is made when drafting?

#2 - In your opinion, how do you get an edge over the next guy come draft day ie. more preparation, better drafting philosophy?

#3 - When it gets to the 24th round and you're drafting your bench, are you looking for backup options on potential injuries to your starters, prospects, pitching, or are you just looking for sleepers that might breakthrough in a big way?

In other words which one of these do you focus on the most when picking your bench?

Thanks Gekko.
Duke – My cheatsheet would help turn an average player into a good one, a good one into a great one, and a great one into “The Best”. If only you bid $5.01, I woulda sold it to you.

Look at Ortiz's stats 2 years ago, 3 years ago, 4 years ago, 5 years ago...
