Chicago Draft To Be At Embassy Suites

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Oct 15, 2004 8:48 am

I apologize for any confusion about the Chicago NFBC event in 2005, but we were still negotiating with venues while we were trying to promote a live draft there. We just finalized the contract today and now have everything in place.

The Chicago NFBC main event will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel Chicago-O'Hare Rosemont, which is right across the street from the Rosemont Convention Center where last year's NFBC event was held. We have a 5,000 square foot ballroom for Saturday's draft and also have private meeting rooms for potential Auction Leagues on Friday, March 18th. The Welcome Reception will be on Saturday morning this year.

We do not have a special room block price yet, but I will get that to you soon. We are adjusting the Chicago link on the NFBC home page now, but just as an FYI, here is the contact info:

Embassy Suites Chicago-O'Hare Rosemont

5500 North River Road

Rosemont, IL 60018

Tel: 1-847-678-4000

See ya all there in March.

Greg,

I just talked to the people at Embassy Suites O'Hare, according to the gentleman on the phone, from March 17th-20 there are zero rooms available, completely booked, including the rooms reserved for the NFBC. I was simply trying to get a quote, to compare costs at different NFBC draft cities, was hoping there might be a special discount rate for the NFBC group, he says there was, but that all of those rooms are booked. Could he have been mistaken?(I'm hoping)

I also did a price check online for the Hilton in New York.....cheapest price i came up with was about $320 a night after taxes. Is there a discount rate for NFBC'ers?

Greg, let me check on the Embassy Suites again for rooms. I know the rate was $139/night when we booked the convention center, but I didn't know how many rooms were available. I'll check today. Take a look at the Doubletree O'Hare, which is right across the street and had listed rooms at $99/night, or the Hyatt O'Hare (also across the street from the Embassy Suites) or the Holiday Inn O'Hare (one block down from the Embassy). All are good hotels within walking distance of our event.

Yes, I heard the NY Hilton was $279/night and we do not have a special room block for NFBC members there. Unless we reserved 100+ rooms/night there, we wouldn't get a discount, so we chose to just pay for the meeting room space. Some of our NFFC guys found alternative hotels and I'm going to go on the NFFC site to grab that post. I'll paste it here.

Damn, it's getting more expensive to sleep at some of these places than it is to fly there! I'll try to stay on top of this and find some alternatives for you guys. Hang tight.

Greg, I just found out that we do have a room block at the Embassy Suites for Friday and Saturday night, March 18-19 and those rooms will be available to NFBC members at $129 night. Those rooms haven't been released yet because the contract with the Embassy Suites hasn't been signed yet. I'm told that the contract should be signed in the next day or two and those rooms should be available then. Hang tight until the end of the week and then try again. Each room is a suite at this place and the price seems right for a good hotel like this one. Good luck.

Greg,

Just called the Embassy Suites O'Hare, inquired again about the room block for NFBC members on March 18th & 19th. This time, they're saying the rooms that were on hold were released for March 18th, but not on the 19th. So for NFBC members, as it stands now, you can only make reservations for friday night. I'm hoping that's some sort of mistake, not the end of the world obviously as there are numerous other hotels in the area, but i stayed at the Embassy Suites OHare for last years NFBC and the rooms were perfect. Since the actual draft is at the Embassy, it would be very convenient to stay there again if it could be worked out.

Yeah, Greg, let me take care of this again. Another NFBC member tried to get a reservation there last Wednesday and were told that our room block was filled, which it obviously isn't. So that person is staying 1.5 miles away, which doesn't make any sense at all. Our contact at the Embassy Suites is out until Wednesday, so give me two more days to clear this up and post something online. We HAVE ROOMS, I promise and we should have enough for Friday and Saturday. I apologize, but this happens with new contracts, but we'll get it figured out soon. Hang tight for two days and I promise a positive response.

As for NY on the cheap...

Many tourists and at least 1 NFFC guy stay in Secaucus, NJ in one of the many hotels on Harmon Meadow Blvd. They are less than half the price of NYC and a 22 minute bus ride from Port Authority terminal which is about a 12 minute walk from the Hilton.

Greg,

sorry to be a pest, but its been a couple of weeks and i didn't hear back from you, so I went ahead and called the Embassy Suites O'Hare Rosemont again, and they're telling me the same thing, that Friday is available, but that Saturday is sold out. Were you able to reach your contact at Embassy Suites about this.

Thanks.

Yes, there is a small room block for Friday and Saturday night at the Embassy Suites under the NFBC name or Krause Publications. However, their registration agents haven't gotten it right too often, so if you have any troubles e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll make sure to call directly myself. Good luck and we'll see you in Chicago.
