First NFBC ADPs Coming Friday, Feb. 20th

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Feb 13, 2009 4:35 am

Okay, with more than a dozen early season drafts this year thanks to the Slow Draft Leagues, the magazine leagues and some Invitationals, we will have enough data to form a solid NFBC Average Draft Position list before the satellite league season begins on Feb. 24th. For the second straight season, anyone who is signed up for a satellite league and now the Online Championship, will get these ADPs e-mailed to them directly free of charge.

We are going to produce the first NFBC ADP list next Friday, Feb. 20th and Geoff at MockDraftCentral.com will e-mail them to anyone who is signed up for a satellite league or the Online Championship before that day. That will be the first of possibly five sends so that you can track the trends of all players.

Our goal is to send out ADPs on:

Feb. 20th

March 4th

March 11th

March 17th

and possibly March 27th before the Online Championship begins

We will not update these ADPs during the 8 days of the Online Championship as no start time should be better than the others.

If you don't want to compete in any of the online events but still want this valuable information, MDC.com will create a link where you can purchase these for $20. I can handle that charge too if you want to work with me on that. The data is being created by the online participants and thus they deserve to get this data, but I can understand if others would like to have this and thus the charge is there for sending this to those folks.

So there you go. The ADPs should be fun to look at and fun to track. Now let's get the Satellite League season started. Last year we held over 60 Satellite Leagues and we've already had more than a dozen now. Should be a wild, wild, wild season of online drafting thanks to the addition of the Online Championship. Good luck all and thanks for participating.

Is the first group going to be only the DC type leagues? Fine if so, but it should be noted because the ADP is significantly different after the first few rounds for non-changing forty five man rosters.

But it shouldn't be combined with other drafts sizes (if there were any).

But it shouldn't be combined with other drafts sizes (if there were any). The first group will be a combination of everything we have. Use the info for what it's worth; it's free. The first several rounds for a DC is no different than a straight draft. Correct, later certain players may move up knowing that you have a deeper bench and can mix and match your starting lineup easier, but for the most part this info will still be useful. As we get more satellite league results, I'll ask Geoff if it makes sense to weed those out of the data base. We'll see.

Just a heads up that tomorrow MockDraftCentral.com will be sending out our first NFBC Average Draft Position (ADP) list. It includes data from 10 different pay leagues, including eight Draft Champions Slow Drafts. This will be e-mailed free to anyone who has entered an NFBC Satellite League or the NFBC Online Championship. We are making this free to those customers because we are using their actual data for these lists. If you don't plan on being in either of those online events but still want the four ADP sends, you can purchase it on MDC.com for $20.

Enjoy the ADP list and look for 3-4 more after this one.

[/QUOTE]I have to admit that I'll plead ignorance on this one. I guess before even thinking this through I was assuming that I would be using the online drafts as part of our data, but that is wrong. The Online Championship has nothing to do with the ADPs. I erred.

I guess since this is the debut event, we'll give them this courtesy. If you're in the main event and you didn't get the first ADP, shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you this one. I can't promise I'll be available to send the rest, but I'll take care of you for this one. No problem there. Good luck all in 2009.

We're certainly not trying to hide the information in these ADPs, so let's create some talk about what we've learned through these first 10 pay drafts. Here's a few interesting facts that I see:

First Round ADP is as follows:

1. Hanley Ramirez

2. Alex Rodriguez

3. Jose Reyes

4. Albert Pujols

5. David Wright

6. Grady Sizemore

7. Miguel Cabrera

8. Ryan Braun

9. Jimmy Rollins

10. Ian Kinsler

11. Mark Teixeira

12. Josh Hamilton

13. Ryan Howard

14. Dustin Pedroia

15. Evan Longoria

Comments: Tex has moved up from 15 to 11 since his Yankee signing, while Pedroia was a bit of a surprise that high. Longoria has held onto his first round status.

Matt Holliday is at 16, so folks aren't discounting him too much with his move from Coors Field to Oakland.

Johan Santana is the first SP off the board at 24. Tim Lincecum follows at No. 30.

The first RP is Jonathan Papelbon at No. 60. Brad Lidge follows at 65, Joe Nathan at 68 and Francisco Rodriguez at 76.

Matt Kemp was at 28, with Manny at 29. That order may change once Manny signs somewhere...likely with the Dodgers.

Brian McCann is the top ranked catcher at No. 45. Russell Martin follows at 49, Joe Mauer at 51, Geovany Soto at 57 and Victor Martinez at 62. I can't ever remember five catchers going in the top 62 before, at least not during our NFBC years.

Matt Wieters is the top rookie at 133. David Price follows at 147.

Anyone else have any insights?

Look's like a top closer will take a 4th round pick.

Look's like McCann has taken the torch from Martin for top catcher, look how high Sota has moved up from last year where he was an 11th round draft pick.Victor Martinez is going higher than i thought,i paid 26 for him last year in my home auction league and got 2 homer's.Lincecum in the 2nd round makes me wonder.I took Jason Schimdt in the 2nd round a few years ago coming off a big 250 k's season and hewas a SF GIANT flop.I thought he was a lock and now you cant even find him in Shandler's list. What a slap in the face.Funny how i remember that and is another reason why i will never take a pitcher in the first two rounds.

Hard to believe that 1/3 (not counting Sizemore) of the players with an ADP in the first round were NOT first rounders last year.

6. Sizemore was a borderline first rounder last year. I think in my main event league, he was drafted with the first pick of the 2nd round.

10. Kinsler. Too much love this year?

11. Teixiera - I think he was an early to mid 2nd rounder last year

12. Hamilton- He went in rd 6 in my main last year. No idea what was the earliest or latest round he was drafted in last year.

14. Pedroia- see Kinsler

15. Longoria- Overrated?

Will all of them be first rounders next year?
