The comment about Becketts curve being among the top three is interesting. Is it because of his fastball setting it up or are you talking just the curveball itself?

Who are the other two pitchers?
You can have Brandon Lyon any day you want. A closer that cant strike guys out dies in the AL. I would much rather gamble with Rodney late than throw away a higher pick on Lyon.

Votto, N. Cruz, or J. Bruce? Cruz comes last. He was designated for assignment on March 25th of last year and cleared waivers. Of all the teams that needed outfield or DH help on the cheap and no one took up Cruz? Let the Major League scouts do the work for you. I don't know why people are so high on him. His ADP is caught up in a speculation run that will hurt you like housing bubble. There must be a Bernard Madoff induced Ponzi scheme going on. Maybe that is what he is doing up in his Penthouse.

Votto is the sure bet. Bruce might give you more power, but only slightly. Votto gives you good average as well.

Who are the other two pitchers? Baseball America's September 8th issue gave Beckett the best overall curve ball followed by K-Rod and A.J. Burnett.

Bedard, Maine, and Harang 1) Maine - Good K-rate even in a down 2008. The Mets bullpen improvements will give him several six-inning victories.

2) Bedard - Somewhere in-between Maine and Harang. Health is obviously an issue. Will be pitching on a below-average team with a questionable bullpen. Not going to repeat the 1.07 WHIP from 2007. 1.30 is a better target.

3) Harang - 678 inning pitched from 2005-2007 ended him.
Judging by those three names, they're including the fastball to set it up. Halladay, Rich Hill (when controlled), and Greinke come to my mind for the curve itself.

But, I digress.
I didn't say I wanted him. The question was who was going to get the first crack. The CW is that Lyon was brought in to close. All we know for sure is that they don't want to use a committee.

I have learned a lot in the last few seasons playing in NFBC and am not too stubbon to stick with strategies that have not worked in the past. I have also learned my draft flaws and free agent flaws and I know I can fix them.

Sorry I was busy for this day-long chat guys, but great, great job with all of the analysis. Love the eight pages of Q&A. Thanks to all four guys, plus Lawr Michaels for the honest chat here. We'll add a few more guys to the schedule soon. Thanks all.

Like Brian said in this thread, CreativeSports.com has a weekly NFBC summary column during the season, so make sure you check that out each week. These guys look at the free agent pickups and draft trends, etc. in the NFBC, and write about them each week.

I should have our next live chat guests lined up by tomorrow. I think Ask Mr. Rotoman, Peter Kreutzer, is going to join us next week maybe on Tuesday afternoon. With any luck, we'll add Alex Patton to the discussion. That's not a guarantee yet as those guys are checking their schedules now, but Peter said he'd definitely try to fit this in. Good for all of us.
