Adding to Hamilton's problems, there are strong rumors that Mrs. Hamilton has fallen in love with another man.

Now that you compared these guys with ONE year. Stack their numbers up against 7th round Ludwick. He is in the discussion imho.

According to Gekko's logic, there may not be "a more sure thing".
I joke but my guess is Gekko is not as high on Hamilton as he contends. I don't see him drafting him at #8. I think Gekko is much smarter than that. Taking a guy with one full year of experience who's had such a tumultous past seems so risky, it makes me feel squeamish just thinking about. I can't imagine somebody taking Hamilton over Cabrera, Howard, or even....dare I say, Carlos Lee. I don't get it.
How can anyone (seems like most everyone) be so sure about a guy who has one full year of experience.
As far as Ludwick is concerned, the hype machine only focuses on certain players apparently.

yep, just check my app again. hamilton #8.
ludwick is a great draft day value given his current adp. i said that before on the MB when i saw him go in the 8th round or something silly like that earlier this year.
howard and lee are both passes that early. i'd likely pass on miggy too. i learned last year, he's a lazy SOB. hamilton over all of them.

How can anyone (seems like most everyone) be so sure about a guy who has one full year of experience.
Maybe you should ask last year's Ryan Braun owners.

I think im staying away from Howard this year as im not sure he can hit 275 or better and i want bavg from my first pick.I wouldnt take Carlos LEE either in round one only because you can get him in round 2.Miggy is in my top 8 as he had a bad first half and hitting 292 for him is an off year for bavg.
Hey Cabrera is only 26 and finally got going in the second half with these number's,
304 bavg
26 hr
79 rbi's
BANG

Interesting how this thread has morphed into a Hamilton vs Miggy contest.
What happened to Q? I agree w/ CC's earlier remark...Q's injury was a freak thing, and I'd personally rather have Q in rd 3 than Hamilton in rd 1...esp if I had already taken Miggy in the 1st rd!

BANG I agree. It took Miggy a few months to settle into his new home and get over the initial pressures of carrying the team. I expect to see close to the production with a .315 to .330 BA. I don't think we'll see him hit under .300 for awhile. He could potentially get in the 140 rbi territory as well. He's a great pick in the mid-1st round, well, anywhere in the 1st round for that matter.

How about Hamilton vs. Matt Kemp?

No offense, but "no chance for a drug relapse" means one got by the brain trust at GG Industries. Anyone with a history of addiction has to deal with it every day. And most have a hard time with it during the course of a "normal" life. Hamilton may be able to control it, but he can never beat it. He has to live with the pressures of that desire, that addiction for the rest of his life.
And his life is not normal. He is a MLB player, a star, with unlimited pressures and nearly unlimited funds. Sounds like he has a great support group and that is certainly important, but a prolonged slump, a nagging injury, or an unforseen personal challenge gives Hamilton so much more pressure than most other addicts have to deal with.
That being said, I like Hamilton as much as I like any other ballplayer who has succeeded for one year in MLB. He does carry risk, but personally I place that risk lower than Quentin and his wrist injury. Even simple wrist injuries can drain power even after every thing is "fine". Just what is your tolerance for risk? Hamilton will be gone in the first. Quentin will be gone in the third. Maybe the thread should be Hamilton vs Braun or Quentin vs Markakis? If those are my choices, I for one am going Braun/Markakis.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Everyone draws their own line in the sand. Hamilton has been clean for years now. That is good enough for me. If he puts up monster numbers for the next 3 years, will the same “addict for life” people still be discounting Hamilton? If so, you will continue to lose out on major production.
I can pinpoint negatives to drafting ANY player. Like I said everyone needs to draw their own line in the sand (as well as not believing in the boogeyman!).
