$75,000 Bonus For Winning Main Event AND Online Championship

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Mar 05, 2009 11:13 am

I thought I'd start a new thread to finalize our bonus between the NFBC Main Event and our debut NFBC Online Championship. We have secured the insurance for this and the prize is now easy to promote.

If anyone is able to win the NFBC Main Event overall title PLUS the NFBC Online Championship overall title, they will win:

$75,000 Cash in one payout or a car of their choice up to $75,000 in value!

PLUS

The $5,000 cash bonus for most Combined Points. This is going to be the guarantee for anyone who wins the scoring title in both events and now that we've gone past 300 teams we will have a payout for second through fifth place teams and maybe even further. The Combined Standings winner will remain at $5,000 even with more teams, but the additional leagues allows us to pay many more Top 10 teams, which makes sense since we have so many more teams than expected.

Good luck all and all of your Online Championship teams will be linked to your main event team and listed separately in the Combined Standings. So your best NFBC Online Championship team will obviously be your highest team ranking.

This should be fun to watch for 26 weeks!!

Remember, each Online Championship team is $350 and you can buy three teams for $950, a $100 discount. You can actually have more than three teams if you'd like, but the three-pack is there for $950.

We have drafts on eight nights from March 28-April 4, two draft spots per night. So we are filling up 16 different draft dates and we'll need to close each perfectly at increments of 12. If somehow we have teams beyond 12 that don't fill another league, we will contact those teams and do everything in our power to get them in a league on a different date. Watch the signup sheet for available dates because at some point we'll need to close these out. Our rules state we can go up to 600 total teams and we have 350+ now.

We will take signups at the live drafts for these as well and by then we should have a better idea of available draft dates. Thanks all and enjoy this. I'd like nothing better than to give one person $100,000, plus $75,000 plus $5,000, oh, plus $5,000 for the league title and $1,300 for at least one online championship title. So with two teams, someone actually could win $186,300.

Not a bad deal. ;) What a season this is going to be!!

Yeah, I like the $75,000 cash too. I'm glad they worked with me on this. We'll do the same for football.

I said I understand and I'll foot the bill for this one and show everyone how big this is going to be. Watch, this could be our new marquee event. :D

I'm going to keep the car option in here because maybe someone smart at a car manufacturer will see this down the line and say "this makes too much sense for us not to be THE car of this NBC Sports contest." We'll see.

[/QUOTE]Here's the nudge: You KNOW you're good enough to win both overall titles. So wouldn't you kick yourself if you won the main and had only one shot at winning the online championship when another $600 would have brought you two more chances? :D Put me in coach, I'm ready to play. :D

Now I have to get my beauty sleep for my trip to see some baseball in Arizona. Be good all and I think we can find 17 more owners before I get back. We're DEFINITELY filling this up...and maybe then some. ;)

The odds to win both must be like 1 in 1,000,000. Thats the ultimate fantasy season to win both. I would sponsor this knowing how tough it is too actually win both leagues.

Kudos to the first person to do it!

First of all, I can't begin to imagine anyone who got into the main event passing on this online championship. Greg has given us a "dream" chance to win another $75,000 but even more importantly, a very realistic shot at an extra $5K for scoring the most combined points. That is guaranteed to be paid to someone in both events.

On the flip side, some of the guys new to the NFBC that are taking a shot at the online game only should seriously consider taking one of the remaining 17 main event spots. Grab a partner if the $1300 seems too expensive. This is free money Greg is giving away.

Best of luck - Pete

Kudos to the first person to do it! I believe the odds of that happening may be greater than 1,000,000 - 1

I haven't taken stats since college. But I think the odds would be less than 1-1,000,000. Actually closer to 1-150,000. I could be way off, it's been several years.

If we assume for the sake of argument that we end up with 390 teams in each event and each team was owned by a different person and had equal chance of winning, the odds would be 1 in 152,100 to win. Now we all know that some players are so much more skilled than others that we can tilt these odds a bit. Just from a casual observation of the boards I would have to believe that Gekko for example should finish in the top 20% of the main event. One could assume the same for the online championship. If he owned 1 team in each…..and the assumptions were correct….his odds would be about 1 in 6,200 to win both. Let’s assume he is a thrifty young man and can’t pass up the 3-pack. Let’s assume that because of his great skill the top 20% again applies to each team. Now his odds of winning both are about 1 in 2000. Move the assumptions to top 10% (Childs territory?) and we are at 1 in 500 odds or .2 % chance. Make it 3 cars!

Also have to factor in a correlation factor of the winning owner having similar players across those teams, no easy calculatation on that so let's just say cut any odds calculation in half.

If anyone is good enough that they should be a top 5% player in both contests (perhaps Childs or Jupinka), with a 3-pak the odds could get down around 65:1 with a 2x correlation factor.

So you're saying IF your are the best and IF you stack both teams with similar break out players who stay healthy, your chances are ALMOST once in a lifetime! (assuming you start playing at 21 and play every year until age 86!)

I'm SOLD!!! :D

I'm SOLD!!! :D Here is where it gets interesting though. Someone WILL win the main event. Suppose than someone is a top 5% player ... which could put their odds of winning the bonus (with a 3-pak) at around 6:1. Cut that in half for team correlation, and now we're at 3:1. :D

The overall WINNER seems (not alwaays) to be more of the one hit wonder types...the perfect storm season...the Child's and Gekko's and Gillis' and Jupinka's and Kenyon type bridesmaids :D etc...have yet to WIN it all! (motivational post, guys...cut and paste!)
