Post by Motorboat Jones » Fri Mar 06, 2009 4:45 pm

I bet a lot of folks from the 2008 Fantasy Jungle Baseball contest are now here on NFBC Online Championship since Fantasy Jungle still has nothing posted about a Baseball league for 2009. That was a fun contest, but I like the organization and responsiveness of the organizers of NFBC. Anyone else here that played 2008 Fantasy Jungle Baseball last year ?

Word around town is they are very late with their football payments.

That's too bad if true, tough times in Detroit. Those guys did a nice job with their contest.

They actually took down their message board for "Maintenence" about a week ago after the guy who won the football contest made a post in which he was extremely agitated about not yet having been paid his $50,000 winnings...can't really say that I blame him for being upset.

Cool...used to go and stay on the Cape every year as a kid, up in Eastham. Met Monte Irvin once at an Orleans CC League game and got his autograph.

I cannot imagine that Fantasy Jungle will have any baseball contest this year at this point...I hope the Football contest winner gets his $50,000...

Not 100%, but either way this is two years in a row when supposed reputable fantasy companies have gone belly up due 100% to their own practises. (Very much like banks, but with no bailout)

AFFL in 2007, and now it looks like Fantasy Jungle in 2008.

What are they running? ...freaking Peter Pays Paul finance where they pocket the entire initial investment?

Update - Mike Williams from fantasy jungle emailed me back.

"Bottom line is they are struggling as a business. They have contacted every person that is owed money and let them know there is a delay. They don't have a firm date on when payments will be made and are hesitant to make payment promises they're not sure they can meet as that just leads to more frustration if they miss a deadline.

Some have threatened legal recourse and they're prepared to deal with that if it comes to it. I don't know Mike but he sounded very sincere in doing all they can to get folks paid. They are not running their normal baseball and golf leagues now as they felt it would be wrong to try and raise money that way knowing they couldn't pay the baseball guys if they used the baseball money to pay the Football winners. My impression as a totally impartial and unconnected in any way observer, is they are doing all they can to make it right.

Hoping for all parties involved on every side that this gets worked out."

Lance,

That email sounds consistent with what I've known of them in the past. Gotta give them some credit for not taking in baseball money to pay for football, which they easily could've done as an established business.

This economy has caught a lot of good people off guard with the speed and depth of the decline. I wish the Jungle guys well as I do those who are owed money.

The AFFL guys always sounded flaky, I really hope the Jungle guys can make payment arrangements and in the end don't get lumped into the same pile as AFFL.

To me this just seems very simple: All the money anyone collects from a contest like this should go into a low-interest, stable CD or money market account that is insured so that the money is there to pay out when needed. Anything beyond that, in my opinion, is irresponsible.

I sent Mike an e-mail about 3 weeks ago and have yet to hear anything.

In the past I would have received a reply from Mike within 24 hours, so this is not only disheartening, but quite different from their USUALLY excellent customer service.

Hope it all gets worked out, and I too give them credit for not taking people's $$$ for baseball.

In my eyes at least. 6 Years of exemplary service? In the toilet. I don't think you get a mulligan here. Time is weeding out the weak sisters and each year that goes by I can't get the NFBC/NFFC my credit card fast enough.

Apparently, you've got to give credit where credit is due -- even if none is!

So yes, there is a difference between a guy who mugs me, one who mugs me and steals my car and one who mugs me, steals my car and cuts my head off. Big difference in fact! ;)

In my opinion, Neil Wickham is complete scum. He dragged people along while STILL trying to swindle people out of there cash (i.e taking new signups).

I'm giving Fantasy Jungle a "grace period" to see what gets worked out. If they treat me like Neil, and I don't get paid, then they too will be scum.

Even though March is TOTALLY unacceptable, I once had to wait until MAY to get paid from one of the bigger high stakes fantasy services out there, so I will send another e-mail to Fantasy Jungle and hopefully this time get a response.

:D

Entry fees were collected from unsuspecting victims as late as January 2009.

Difference between having a bad business plan but honoring commitments, and just plain being a scam artist and gambling with other people's money.
