Chicago 3 Pick 10

*I was given 14 hours of warning that I would be going to the NFBC to draft because the owner had an unforseen emergency. I had been planning for my 15 team and working on pick 15. I also had this week to finish my round 20 planning. His son came to keep me company, kept me laughing, and was feeding me 7-8 Jim Beam & Cokes. So I was a little loaded at the end. Pardon me for not having the complete roster. Thru user error, I messed up my draft software and was inputting people into the wrong teams too late for my drunk self to notice.

*** I would like some feedback on this team PLEASE. I am feeling so/so on it and hoped for better because I was drafting for somebody else.

(Incomplete Roster)

C - B Molina, I Rod

1B - Howard

2B - Matsui

SS - Jeter

3B - A-Rod

MI - Rentoria

CI - Blalock

OF - Ichiro, Vlad, Magglio, Cameron, J. Guillen

UT - Blake / Swisher

SP - Felix, Joba, Volquez, Saunders, Kohse

RP - Qualls, M Gonzalez

Bench - C Guzman, A. Escobar

Bench - Hochevar, Wheeler, Blanton

**I would love some input Good or Bad. Thanks

If I had the responsibility of drafting a team for a friend/relative who invested $1,300 and then proceeded to drink myself silly I would:

A) apologize to him/her and offer to pay the $1,300

and

B) wouldn't make it public knowledge.

But that's just me.
Happy Recap

Walter:

The fact that you stepped in means that nobody can knock you. These drafts usually require a learning curve. Please take the following comments as constructive.

Helps when you list a team, that you tell exactly where the players were drafted. I'm going to assume that Howard was first. Arod - Ichiro - which order? Whomever you got at # 3 was a bargain.

1. His son was feeding me the booze. I dont pay $8 for a small ass mixed drink. I will give the credit tho, they were strong.

2. Thanks for giving input on everything but what I thought I kindly asked for.

Walla Walla - good to see you are still around on these boards.

Sack - #3,4,5,6 went Ichiro,Vlad, Magglio, Jeter (who I took over Perralta because I thought more for BA and R than HR and RBI there.

This isnt my 1st , 2nd, or 3rd NFBC draft. It was my 4th, but I wasnt fully prepped. That and I was missing my partner I usually draft with. His son kept me good company tho and I couldnt stop laughing when he kept telling me to draft Travis Frymann.

I am just not sure how I feel about the team. I wanna like it, but I went away from my draft strat knowing who he wanted with his first pick if they were avail. Me, I would have taken Utley and followed up with Beltran or Berkman if they were there. I also prayed for Matt Kemp in the 3rd or Rios, but Kemp went with pick #16. I think my pitching has some serious promise and my offense is filled with proven players.

Two closers. Check.

Not a Joba fan until the Yanks stop messing with him, but understand because he is electric. Like Felix and Volquez, not so much Saunders (light on K's) or Kyle Lohse (whom I think Kohse) is. Not the complete picture, but K's, ERA, and WHIP may be at some risk. All in all, I think this is a middle of the pack SP line-up.

Might need a little more speed that Ichiro, Matsui, Jeter, and Cameron will provide. Howard, A-rod, Vladdy, Blalock. Power - Check! BA looks good, but fringey.

We all have holes to fill, but on short notice or not, looks good to me.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Walter:

Sorry, I got cut off. OK - Ichiro at # 3 - great compliment for Howard.

I'm on board with the Arod decision. I think that is going to work well for you. When you start with Howard, it is paramount you protect batting average. Very well done.

Your Offense appears solid. Alot of age, but I'd have tried to mix in some younger guys with upside. May have left alot to do in the speed area, but your front four will compete.

The pitching at 1-2-3 is solid. Your choices behind the top guys are weak, but those are only through my eyes. I'd watch that early waiver wire as this team could improve with 2-3 upgrades at the pitcher position. 2 closers - well done, you give the team a fighting chance.

Kudos for stepping in, I'm sure you'll enjoy the rooting interest in season to see how your work unfolds. Hope that was what you were looking for.

Ken

It's not a bad team. Assuming that your friend is now going to take over, it is a good enough start for him to win the league with some good waiver wire work and injury luck.....just like the rest of us.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. He sounded optimistic about the team (I just thought he was being polite) and I know this guy has an eye for the waiver wire.
