LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Braves catcher Brian McCann seemingly escaped a potentially damaging situation after getting hit with a foul ball during the first inning of Saturday afternoon's game against the Yankees at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex.

McCann suffered a contusion of his right ring finger after getting hit with a foul tip off the bat of former Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira. No X-rays were taken, and Atlanta announced that his status is day-to-day.

After getting struck with the foul tip, McCann dropped his glove, walked behind the plate and bent over in pain. He was removed minutes later after being evaluated by Braves head athletic trainer Jeff Porter.

Is it true that you need to wait for the swelling to go down b4 taking an quality xray?

to answer your question, yes. i guess it'd be 6-8 wks if it's a fracture. hopefully it's just a bruise. stay positive, gg. (easy for me to say :D )

Brian McCann's bruised right ring finger is not considered serious.

McCann was struck with a foul ball during the first inning of Saturday's game against the Yankees. He is listed as day-to-day. "We caught a break there," said Braves manager Bobby Cox. "The doctor said he’s going to be fine."

as we discussed, the only good news is when he's back on the field, but i appreciate the well wishes!

once you've played this game long enough, u realize most owners, managers, and players lie about injuries.
