Stupid Place in the Lineup
5 years ago i drafted kemp in my nl keeper league. got him in the reserve draft for 5 bucks. every year he hits- and every year the dodgers either try to trade him or play him less than his production warrants etc. etc. in watching my daughter play sports and watching her coaches and who they play and their answers as to why they play people when and where they do- i have concluded the following. coaches decide things like playing time and position using a set of values that they own that have nothing to do with the sport they are coaching. they then need to justify that decision- just like anyone does when buying a home, car etc. people can not live in "dissonance" so they must justify these moves. i am amazed how much it seems to happen in sports and even more amazed that 40 year old men coaching 10 year old girls can have this problem. but they do. matt kemp- to the dodgers- just doesn't look the part. it is almost like they say " we hate matt kemp but if he is gonna hit .350 and go 30-30 we have to keep him around. we hate him. he isn't "scrappy" or " baseball intelligient" and "doesn't play the game the right way." All he does is run and hit the crap out of the ball. i talked to kenny williams- and the white sox are willing to trade for that guy that the dodgers hate. he will bat 3rd and play center field- everyday.

Renteria in the 5 hole - no wonder it went extra's 0-0

This reminds me of playing basketball in High School. My friend and I were two of the best players on our team but the coach started his freshman son, and three other teacher's kids who were sophomores. And our fifth starter was the pretty boy jock that everyone loves but had no basketball skills. Now these kids were gym rats and were ok but were not ready for varsity ball just yet. But the one thing that I will always remember was our coach pull myself and my friend to the side after the only game we would win that season (1-26) because of us and said "You guys do well playing off the bench. I'm going to keep you in that roll because you guys play so well coming off the bench." My friend and I were pissed because we would come into a ballgame down 8-15 points and play for 3-4 minutes and we would be back in the game within a few points or tied. Then the same thing would happen we hit the bench and the team would trail by 10 or more again. Of course back then I had a temper and had it out with my coach over the issue and was benched for a game and in the second game I didn't get in till the last 1:30 of the game and we were down 30+ I ended up getting an assist and scored 8 points (Team High) but it just lead to not playing the next game at all. I could go on and on lol
What happened to me back then reminds me of what Kemp is doing. Right now he should be a lock in the top of the order but Torre must be like my coach and thinks well you have some of the best stats on the team but your my 6th-7th man on my team and your doing good there so I'm not going to change it. How many games could have LA won if they batting him near the top of the order? It don't matter if you got talent like Kemp or just known for your glove like Adam Everett if your bat is hot for over a weeks time you move that guy up in the order and take advantage of it.

snord- perfect example of what i was talking about. some coach somewhere wrote a book on "the 500 different reasons you can give for playing the wrong players" yours is right at the top. the best one is " do it for the team" fans buy into that, voters buy into that, churchgoers buy into that. works every time. the "team" is really the coach. best example- college bball followed by college football followed by the olympics. it is all about the coaches- never the players.
Stupid Place in the Lineup
Matt Tolbert hitting 2nd, Brendan Harris hitting third.....OOOh scary!!!
This doesen't say as much about the managing skills, since they're not playing Mauer or Kubel, as much as it states how disappointed the Twins organization are in Carlos Gomez and Delmon Young.

Now Kemp is in the 8th spot???
Can anyone really explain to me how you don't at least flip-flop him and Russ Martin at this point????

Kemp hitting 9th tonight.

Stupid Place in the Lineup
Kevin Millar hitting 4th
The Mariners have Sweeney hitting 4th
But they get a pass, following Sweeney in the lineup are:
Balentien hitting 5th
Langerhans hitting 6th
Johnson hitting 7th
Hannahan hitting 8th
Cedeno hitting 9th
All of these players could be hitting in the same places in Tacoma or even AA.
Jason Bartlett hitting .342 is hitting 9th for Tampa. BJ Upton leads off hitting .240
