R.Church and D.Murphy_Available?
We all know quality hitters are tough to find on the waiver wire (esp in a Super and Ultimate league). However, both R.Church & D.Murphy are available in my main event league. When one of my friends found this out, he told me I was in the weakest NFBC main event league! While I don’t agree with my friend, I don’t think R.Church & D.Murphy are available in too many other main event leagues!!
How much do you think I need to go to secure the services of either one? I really don’t care which one I get. Does $78 assure me of getting one of them? I’m sure any bid in the triple digits gets the job done, but I’m trying to be a little more cost effective after spending a lot in Week 1. Any help you can provide is appreciated. Serious inquires only. Thanks.

I'm seriously inquiring on how to get INTO your league.
The best hitting player left in my league is Brandon Wood...and that really says something.

Would you say $78 is enough for Murphy OR Church? I'm trying to guage interest level to see if it's more/less than what I expected.

Well, I know sheffield is there now, and he might steal a few ABs, but nothing too significant.
I'm thinking if Shafer went for $77 or so in my league, you're going to have to come out pretty close to that.
I'd be after Church before Murphy if that has any bearing, plus, you'd have Murphy as your conditional. Chances are, if you don't get one, you'll get the other.

Mark, I'm assuming you are speaking of Daniel Murphy, if so, I'm shocked.....not only him not being drafted, but also overlooked in bidding.
I'm not only rostering him, but he is in my lineup in NUMEROUS leagues, heck, even in a 12 teamer he's in my lineup.
They love that guy in New York. If he doesn't go for $100++ I would be surprised, but then again, he wasn't drafted, so maybe you can get him for $1.

Just read above, there's no way Church is more valuable than Daniel Murphy this season. If and when Sheffield plays, it will be at the expense of Church, not Murphy.

That makes it an easy choice then I guess.
Oh, I have Seth Smith available in my league...is this someone I should be targeting even with a crowded field in Colorado?

as for smith, i think he's the short end of the stick with fowler. smith is not in the rockies longrange plans. fowler is.

It's funny cause you definately wouldnt of said a word about either one of these guys if you were seriously interested in picking one of them up. So instead you come on here and start talking them up to get owners to spend more money on them than they might think of doing.
Are you gonna announce to everyone who is available in our league every week Gekko? Or just the guys you dont want so owners feel like they need to spend lots on them.

and if you think the owners in our league wouldn't know that these two are available, i think you are underestimating them. ya, like these players were going to go unnoticed!!
u might see me getting one of them for $78 on sunday. or maybe $128 or maybe $57. i definately won't go over $150 though.

[/QUOTE]Gekko seems to do this each year. I've never been in his league but I would guess he's about 50/50 on bidding players he brings up to the boards. Last year the biggest name and bidding results were on Max Scherzer. He talked him up big time and the bids went big time. To his credit, he went huge on his own bid and "won"

I personally would bet that the number of concussions Ryan Church suffers is going to be more than the winning bid on sunday for him.

if only 1 of those guys were available, i probably wouldn't say anything. but with both out there, i'm much more confident i can secure one of their services. no way both go for more than i'm prepared to bid.

Mark,
I think the funniest part of this thread was that you actually got a newbie to believe you actually wanted/needed someone else's "advice".

Ryan,
I’ve been very honest and sincere in my posts this year. If anyone was doubting that, all u have to do is look at my “sleeper”/“breakout” player thread that listed prior to the draft:
*Josh Johnson
*C.Carpenter
Now, I’m wishing I had designed my draft plan with them more of an integral part.
The best thing about my posts is that I’m posting honesty, but people choose to think I’m posting misinformation!! Hehehehe!!!

Since you asked - if it was between the two you'd for sure go after Church. You're a bit of a Church guy - you held onto him a long time last season well into his post concussion syndrome. You WILL be bidding on him aggressively since your OF depth is spotty and 2 that are starting make you a little nervous.
You dropped 1/4 of your FAAB budget last week but won't hesitate to spend THIS week either. You were hamstrung after the Scherzer bid last year and still came out ok. This give you confidence that you can operate on shoestring budget.

He better bid well over $100 on him cause after todays game Church looks like the real deal in that lineup.
