From 2 days of discussion here and 2 days earlier in the week on the CDM board i would have to agree 100% with Walla Walla on this. The rule is not popular period, whether you as an operator of the contest want to acknowledge it or not.
Ken, I have two tally marks for you and Walla Walla on the right to end this rule and two on the left for me and Tom to continue it. You are right, I don't want to acknowledge it, but it's still 2-2 right now. We'll ask the masses at season's end because ending it now could cause a lawsuit, numerous refunds or more. Thanks for the input on this subject.

Fine-tuning The Friday DL Rule
Two issues are getting lumped into one.
First issue: Scherzer and other pitchers (maybe even Smoltz later this year) getting a Wednesday start and owners quickly switching him out of their lineups so they can get a double start. I agree, this is a technique used by some in rare circumstances and could be shut down THIS year. Good job with that issue Greg.
Second issue: Starting Smoltz every week he is on the DL (and not pitching) and then replacing him before Friday's deadline with another pitcher. Perfectly legal strategy which some owners envisioned doing on draft day and accordingly drafted smoltz at a higher premium than they normally would. Must keep for 2009 and revisit in the offseason.
From Greg's last postings I take it this is how it will play out. Good job Greg.

I could use a damn basketball game too, instead I get to go back to the market. Yippeeee. I better not get a call from some brokerage analyst trying to persuade me on some BS idea. Better yet, I hope I do. Bring it on!

Funny how when we drafted a DL'd John Smoltz, it was for his performance on the field come May/June, not his DL loophole.
The DL pitcher who remains on the DL continues. The "cute" move some owners have done by double dipping is getting shut-off, from what I gather.
Greg, I feel for you in this situation. You get all the credit as these guys praise you, then you get bashed by these same individuals, because you are improving the quality of the game. Give this poster a prize. He gets it.
I will start a new thread with my explanation once I've received a final word from STATS because I think this one has outlived its usefulness. But yes, if folks choose to have a DL pitcher in their starting lineup for four days so that they can better judge who to start on the weekends then so be it. It's not worth the effort to change this and honestly if folks feel that's a form of team management for them so be it. It's not getting anything extra from our setup.
But gaining another start when they know their pitcher is coming off the DL for them during the week needs to be addressed and I will do that right now. It will cause a lot of extra work for me and Tom, but we will do it anyway. Some people feel good about knowing this existed, and although I don't believe the situation happens often, the two instances last week were two too many for my liking. If you want that start from your pitcher coming off the DL, great you get it and his name in your starting lineup for the rest of the week.
Can we move on now?

I've said my peace, I'm out. I'd volunteer to guard you, but you're bigger than I am.
That's okay, I was hot from the outside today and would enjoy draining one three after another over you!!
Come on up to Iola, next game is noon tomorrow and we're struggling to get 10 guys this week.
You've said your peace and then some. Time to move on. I am 100 percent confident that at least one more loophole can be found in my rules and that another 11-page discussion can be launched.
Let's not move on yet...I'd like to have my say on this.
Every single long-time member here knows that the intent of the DL rule was to trade someone out for Friday-Sunday games, who got hurt AFTER lineups were frozen prior to Monday's games.
Gekko knew this, KJ knew this, all of us knew this. Some of us have played by the rules ever since...but some folks, like Gekko, have abused this rule ever since - using it so that they don't have to start someone with a bad start. I've never done it, I've always considered it cheating, and I'm glad that it is finally getting some attention.
Some folks have no shame...and so, like all shameless assholes do, they look for more ways to cheat, and now we've got even worse abuses on our hands, as the shameless ones figured out at some point in the past (who knows when) that they could get extra starts.
You people disgust me.
The integrity of the NFBC is the only thing of importance here.

Zola will be my stopper in the paint. Q will razzle-dazzle you with his witty mis-direction play. I think Gekko can play guard in addition to his waterboy duties. Doughboys can call our plays, and I think he's tall enough to dunk a few (at least in the thin COL air). We'll be competitive.

Read the rules sluggo, it's not cheating. If a player is on the DL you can move him before Friday. End of story.
You posted in '07 you wanted it fixed, I posted I liked it because it adds a small amount of extra strategy. I see neither of us have changed our opinions.
But don't go making dumba*** inferences about how people use this rule. I doubt I've used the rule at all half a dozen times in 3 years, even with 10+ teams per season. But it has been a strategic option for those capable of reading the rules. If you don't like strategy, take up knitting.

Bringing more vulgar words to our public forums isn't helping my attitude at all.
Bottom line is I don't care what either side thinks right now. The change is being made to prevent one loophole and you folks can play with your DL pitchers during the week. All sides win and life moves on. I agree with KJ that this Scott Baker situation rarely happens, but that part of the rule definitely was never intended to be implemented that way, nobody drafted a team with that strategy in mind and thus it's easy to close that loophole in Week 3. Now we move on.
And I mean, MOVE ON.

I'm very discouraged that someone who is so outspoken and visible on these boards would flat out lie about changing his registered name. It makes anything you say worthless. If you'd lie about something that was so obvious to everyone, why would I believe for one second that you drafted Smoltz to use this rule to your advantage?
I wouldn't......and you 100% know you're full of ****

Greg, I think you should leave the 2 start rule in there. Anyone starting a pitcher the 1st start after coming off of the DL normally gets a nice hit to their ERA.
Baker 4 IP, 6 ER
Scherzer, 5 IP, 3 ER
It would help me out if you left this rule alone.
Baker 4 IP, 6 ER
Scherzer, 5 IP, 3 ER
