Josh Jantas Is Week 3 NFBC Winner
Kendry Morales (.333-2-6) and Jacoby Ellsbury (.385/6 SBs) were key as Jantas’ The Humen-Fund team in New York League 3 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,242 points. Justin Masterson had two wins, Jered Weaver had 11 Ks and Jonathan Broxton and Matt Capps combined for four saves to lead the pitching.
“I think the two most important players in our winning the week though were Jacoby Ellsbury and Justin Masterson,” Jantas said. “We took a lot of heat from other players and critics when we selected Ellsbury with the fourth pick of the third round but we felt Ellsbury would put up very similar numbers to Jose Reyes.
“The key player though was definitely Justin Masterson. We were lucky enough that another team didn't think enough of Masterson to keep him rostered so we pounced on him with a bid of 136, three more dollars than the second-place bidder. Masterson had two wins for the week with a 1.69 ERA 1.23 WHIP and 7Ks and his performance and win on Sunday night is what pushed us to victory.”
The 31-year-old Jantas is married and has a 16-month-old son. Pike is engaged and will be married in October. The two discuss their NFBC team and fantasy baseball every Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Fantasy Phenoms Baseball Hour on Blog Talk Radio.
