I believe you don't watch baseball or football when you say you do not. I'm glad. You'd be an even better fantasy player if you watched. So much to see that just does not transfer to the stat sheet.

MLB internet package is cheap, and archived to watch at your leisure.

Do us all a favor and do not buy it.

Medlen was not horrible...but he was CLEARLY rattled. Sweating like crazy and nervously pushing the pace. His mind had more to do with his failure tonight than his body. He looked like a deer in the headlights...even though it was 1-0 in the 4th. Being able to see body language is a bridge the stats-only guys will never cross with stats.

I guess that's why good scouts are so coveted and numbers crunchers are a dime a dozen.

edited to add...

Helton's grand slam should have and would have been caught on that short wall by many right fielders...miss-played by Fancour and bounced off the yellow line and over. Now THAT'S Lucky! I enjoy all your insights sportsbetting, but this is one of my favorite. It's true. There's so much that don't show up in numbers. The numbers don't show the whole picture and they never will.

How great was Rickey Henderson? Probably better than most think he was. You certainly could not tell his dominance soley from looking at the back of his baseball card. How many fastballs did the batters behind him get because the pitcher was nervous the whole time with Rickey leading off a mile and the threat of a steal. You can't see that in a stat. He also walked a lot yes, but still doesn't tell you how incredible of an eye he had at the plate, simply amazing to watch that guy play. Lots can be learned about players by watching, sometimes more than just reading their boxscore.
"Hit a home run - put your head down, drop the bat, run around the bases, because the name on the front is more - a lot more important than the name on the back."

Ryne Sandberg (my favorite player of all-time)

Last night was quite a pitchers duel until the sixth. Bonderman through five had pitched a shut-out, too, allowing only two hits, a walk, a hit batsman, and three K's. With two out and one on in the sixth, the wheels came off, though. He finished with 98 pitches and five runs allowed, so you must think he just ran out of gas.

I was listening to the Medlen game as well. Allowed the first inning run, then settled down for the next two innings, while not dominating, he did have pin-point control. In the fourth, something happened. It wasn't like they figured him out the second time through the line-up. He just went wild...balls to the backstop wild. Cox came out to see if he was hurt, checking out his hand. I haven't read in all the papers yet, but it would not surprise me if a blister or something showed up. It was really like he could no longer grip the ball.

I'm sure the Braves are kicking themselves today for not taking the advice of some on this message board and demoting Kawakami to the bullpen or minors.....

Tom Glavine said his shoulder felt good in anticipation of his rehab start at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Sorry Tommy, maybe we'll see ya in Sept (unless Hudson is ready to roll) ;)

Tom Glavine's shoulder feels good.

Tommy Hanson's shoulder feels good.

Advantage: Hanson

-----------------------------

Tom Glavine paid millions

Tommy Hanson paid minimum

Game, set, match: Glavine

If anybody saw Rod Stewart sing Maggie Mae on American Idol, it parallels Glavine and Hanson in this way:

Some can still be paid handsomely for a semblance of what they did in their early life.

Ah, don't forget the other option - moving him to #5, not to mention these suggestions weren't to happen 'til June 1st anyway. The main point of all that was to make room for Hanson.

No matter, the REAL cause behind Kenshin's fine performance was my ripping on him on the MB....I have mystical powers that way. I can seal his demotion quite easily, all I have to do is pick him up on waivers in a couple leagues and he is toast.

Didn't he just pitch back to back zero ERA outings at AAA Gwyneth Paltrow?

Although I am one of the bigger Braves fans on these boards, I do not own Tommy Hanson on my Main Event team. That being said, I am just not sure if it was ever in the Braves plans to bring him up this year.

First, they go with Jo-Jo Reyes, now Medlen, who has come out of no-where to pitch very well in AAA this year. Glavine is starting in Gwinnett Saturday night and probably only needs a few starts to get ready. Charlie Morton is pitching well at the AAA level as well and Tim Hudsons rehab is going well. Vazquez, Lowe, and Jurrgeins are pitching well and the Braves have too much invested in up and down Kawakami to give up on him, so there is really only one spot the Braves have open for starters and they have a half-dozen options.

Nothing is etched in stone, but it is increasing looking to me like we may not see Hanson until September. Guess my crystal ball was a little cloudy.

You may have been right at the time you posted this - but it would seem that the Myers injury in Philly and the Mets injuries/struggles have convinced the Braves to take a shot. The McLouth trade has to be putting the pressure on Minaya to answer with a deal of his own.

Fourth Starter? 1B? OF? C?
