While Votto was a clear 3rd round talent in my book at the draft table, stuff like this just reminds people that there is some luck involved in doing well in a contest like this. In this case, bad luck, unfortunately. Too bad, because he was on his way to a breakout year this year. Wouldn't you think if it was really serious, they would have already placed him on the DL so they can play with a full 25 guys?

I would guess that they have no idea at this point.

First baseman Joey Votto had a doctor's appointment Wednesday morning and was at another doctor in the afternoon. There is still no word on what has caused his dizziness. Votto is not an option off the bench as a pinch-hitter because of his condition. Plus, if he had to go on the disabled list, the Reds would not want to prolong his time out by sticking a less-than-healthy Votto into a game.

Is the 20K a one time cost? My God is that petty!

Maybe its that I live in fantasy land, but it seems like they (The Reds) would have taken so much pressure off the situation by simply putting him on the DL immediately- end of story.

My contingency is Sheffield. It could be worse.

All tests on Joey Votto have been completed, with results expected tomorrow . We will have an update at that time.

appears to be good news...not sure why it took so long to find an inner ear infection. let's hope they really found the issue.

Reds trainer Mark Mann just met with reporters in Dusty Baker's office and gave the announcement regarding Joey Votto's recent bouts with dizziness:

Inner ear infection (left ear). Votto is on medication and will do some light workouts and hitting before the game today, then again tomorrow. Not in the lineup today, playing status day to day.

Drs. Stephen Cleves (internist) and Reds medical director Tim Kremchek came to the conclusion that the inner ear infection had caused Votto's dizziness, Mann said.

Votto had some history of inner ear infections as a youth, Mann said. Votto underwent a battery of tests the past several days.

"The only thing that came back irregular was the audiology test, indicating he had an inner ear infection," Mann said. "That was secondary to the upper respiratory infection he had 10 days ago, which from I get from Dr. Cleves is a common occurrence," Mann said.

Votto was not immediately available to comment.

Reds manager Dusty Baker said he was "thankful and grateful" with the news.

"I'm just glad they found what it was, No. 1," Baker said. "There was a lot of stuff floating around out there, a lot of neighborhood doctors."

Votto sitting out again today. After playing one game he now will have been out for the last two games. :rolleyes:

Just put the guy on the DL already.

owners would be wise to stick him on their bench this week. joey getting pulled means a relapse (or they never went away to begin with).

Looks like Joey Votto is finally headed for the disabled list.

The Reds should have put this guy on the DL in the first place and let him get healthy. :rolleyes:

Votto (inner ear infection) had the same symptoms on Friday night that forced him from other games. He left a post-game exam on Friday very frustrated. He will not play on Saturday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.Spin: There's a chance now that Votto will have to go on the DL. But because he played on Friday, the Reds won't be able to backdate any move. The symptoms have kicked in more often than not the day after a flight.

Same thing is going to happen with B Phillips as they used to PH last night and bunt! Give him 2 solid weeks to heal for christs sake! You could've used a starting pitcher to bunt. Idiots

Joey officially on the DL.

Reds placed first baseman Joey Votto on the 15-day disabled list with stress-related issues.

Votto left Friday's game in the second inning. He has been bothered by an inner-ear infection that causes dizzy spells. No word yet on how much time he will miss.

Here's hoping Votto is back by the All-star break and fully recovered. I had him on four of my seven teams this year including all three of my online championship teams....

didn't greinke suffer from that a few years ago? basically had to take a year off from pitching and "get help".

Reds say Votto just needs time away

The mystery continues and mum’s the word on Joey Votto.

Manager Dusty Baker called a pre-game meeting Saturday and cleared the clubhouse to address the Votto issue.

Even the players were not told exactly what the stress-related issue is with Votto that placed him on the disabled list, although Baker told the writers that the inner ear infection was the start of it.

Asked what he could tell us about Votto, Baker said, “Not much. He’s just dealing with a personal issue. He wants us to respect his privacy about that. And he’s dealing with it, trying to deal with it.”

Baker said it doesn’t involve his inner ear infection, “But it started with that.” Votto went back to Cincinnati and when asked if he’ll be back after the 15 days, Baker said, “We hope so. We don’t know.”

Votto went on the bereavement list last August when his father died.

Of the team meeting, Baker said, “They weren’t informed about what’s wrong with Joey. They were just told we have to stick together more than ever. And whatever it is, we have to support him. It’s like a member of your family. Right now he needs support and love. They have to try to understand something that they may not understand.”

Said General Manager Walt Jocketty, “It’s basically something that Joey needs some time to get away and deal with and we gave him that time. It’s not a big deal, but it is something that was affecting his ability to play at the level he wants to play at. So we gave him a little time off.”

Jocketty added, “Yeah, the inner ear thing has been part of that. That’s part of it and we’ll leave it at that.”

“Our guys have been very resilient and they’ll just have to be more resiliant,” said Baker.
