But, IMHO, what sets him truly above other pitchers with like experience in the majors and a goodly number of those with much more major league experience has been and will continue to be his ability to limit the damage. He has the stuff to induce the groundball or K when he needs it.
For example, none of the HR allowed but half the walks have come with there two out in the inning. That shows he might fall into the trap of letting up a bit, but likewise, his K rate with two out is 9.0. He has the talent to refocus, reach back and pull a little more out to exit the inning. Also, 62.5% of the ER he has allowed have come in two games...his very first which is understandable and the first game he pitched in Coors. That means in his other six games he has averaged one ER per start.
He can help this year. I wish I hadn't firmly believed in March that we would not see him until September.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

i think atlanta is about to flip that team over. ( i hope so- they are my second favorite team). they look to have the future starting pitching in place. should go totally speed and defense and build around mccann. keep chipper and live with the 100 games he plays- maybe even move to 1base next year- kotchem can't hit. they have 2 really fast of"s in minors. pair with nate. get rid of escobar- he is not fixable as a human being. ( see the cubs and their collection of morons.- how would YOU like to pitch with bradley fukodome and soriono playing the outfield). get a great defensive shortstop and play prado at second.

hanson could also be pitching to the situation. up a lot- throw strikes let dunn hit one out if he can. close game- 2 outs, pitcher or someone you can get out up next- pitch very carefully to the guy at the plate. worked for maddux and glavin and many other nl pitchers with a brain.

Nail on the head, headhunters. While we root for 1,2,3 innings to improve whip, these guys are trying to win a game. The guys hitting behind Albert this year are hitting .225. Smart pitchers aren't throwing to him. With two outs and nobody on, the list is long on who NOT to throw to.
The Cubs have 2 and a half more years of Milton Bradley. My guess is that he is a total disruption and crappy player this year and next, while magically playing hard during his contract year.
Wayne, regarding a past post. Milton Berle, Alan Hale, Forrest Tucker, and David Cassidy all reputedly would have no problems with "show and tell".

Alan Hale Sr. or Jr.? If Jr., that would explain why Gilligan was dazed and confused most of the time!

They have the pitching this year and next for sure. Chipper cannot be counted on given his age and his injury history. His bat and position will have to be replaced soon. To me, Chipper is playing out the string like Anderson. Prado looks good, but is at heart a singles hitter probably better suited as the super-sub. I still hold out hopes for Kelly Johnson as I think, in time, he can improve his defense to be acceptable (and is tearing the cover off the ball in AAA). Crotchman is good D, but I do not know if he will ever be the 20 HR guy everyone projected him to be. Escobar is a gamer and a head case (loses focus). If the Braves trade him, you can point to the mental lapses as the cause. McLouth is an "OK" center fielder, in my opinion. He is keeping the spot warm for Heyward or Schafer. One of those two will go if the Braves trade for one of the two bats they need to take the next step. McLouth will settle in, not necessarily as a lead off, as the .260-.270 hitter with the nice OBP, power, speed combo. Basically, two big bats, preferrably at 3B and RF to hit in front of McCann and they really might have something.

Congrats GG on yesterday's delivery. You've already won the grand prize this year. Anything after this is gravy. We're glad all went well for you and your wife. Congrats.
