Top 20 teams Where_they_draft_from?

Post by Gordon Gekko II » Thu Jun 25, 2009 4:59 am

Quick look at where the top 20 teams overall DRAFTED

Chicago 7 teams in top 20

Las Vegas 5 teams in top 20

Phone/Online 3 teams in top 20

NY 3 teams in top 20

Orlando 2 teams in top 20

If all leagues had the same amount of talent in them, the normal distribution of top 20 overall teams would be:

Chicago 3.0

Las Vegas 8.4

Phone/Online 1.5

NY 5.3

Orlando 1.5

For those of you who like to see the bottom line, that means if you:

• drafted in Chicago, your chances of being in the top 20 were INCREASED by a whopping 133%!!!

• drafted in Las Vegas, your chances of being in the top 20 were REDUCED by 40% :(

• drafted in Phone/Online, your chances of being in the top 20 were INCREASED by a whopping 100%!!!

• drafted in NY (like I did), your chances of being in the top 20 were REDUCED by 43% :(

• drafted in Orlando, your chances of being in the top 20 were INCREASED 33%!

Summary – In 2009, I think we all know where the weaker drafters (in general) draft. Draft in Chicago or the Phone/Online and you improve your chances RIGHT OFF THE BAT. Before you get mad at me, just look at the numbers. They are FACTS (not opinions). If I get some free time (ya right), I’ll look at the past 2 years to see if we can observe a trend.

Before the season, my personal thoughts on owner strength by city was

1. NY (toughest)

2. Las Vegas

{Clear and distinct break}

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

3. Phone/Online

4. Chicago

5. Orlando (easiest)

Nice math, but wrong. Statistically, you cannot draw relevant conclusions from such a small scale (390 teams over 11 weeks and change from one incomplete year) inference.

Why don't you stop dragging down and insulting people you have never met nor have ever been in a league with. It is not fair and it is just not fun.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Those are ALL the figures we have at this point. i'm using the entire sample size. as i stated on the other thread, i can only hope the data will even out over the course of the season.

don't get mad at me for exposing...eh...i mean showing the numbers.

[/QUOTE]If I recollect, you drafted in Chicago one year. Wasn't your best year either. Now you've won two league titles and finished in the Top 10 overall in New York. That's a small sample size, but personally wouldn't you have to say New York is the easiest city to draft in?? ;) Two league titles in NY, 0 in Chicago. Hmmmmmm.

Pointing out the facts is one thing, but we've had NFBC overall champs from NY twice, Chicago twice and LV once. This year's overall leader is from LV and three of the top four teams overall are from LV. Why isn't LV being singled out as being so easy? I'm missing something here.

Good competitors can be found in any city. But feel free to head to the Windy City if you'd like next year. I'll still be hoisting Corona's in Las Vegas. ;)

In fact, one could draw the conclusion that the talent in Chicago is better than NY, so you should avoid Chicago. The teams in Chicago seem to be exceeding expectations, maybe that is because there is more talent in Chicago (Clearly not talking about the Cubs).

don't worry, i'll run the numbers for the past 3 years and see where each of the cities rank.

to exceed expectations you need to be a hardcore player (very few of them) or in an easy league. fantasy baseball is a ZERO sum game. in order to move up, someone has to move down.

if there was a league of 15 shawn childs, there is NO WAY the 100K winner would come from there.

gecko- you are embarrassing yourself. stick to fantasy baseball. logic is not your forte. i mean alberts adp was 3 and i took him second? are you serious? one spot! he was drafted second in every league in chicago. by your "logic" we are good. you are the 28th best team as of now. how many leagues are there? i bet less than 28. yet you are romping in your league. maybe YOU are in an easy league. trust me on this- you posted somewhere that you were going to be an attorney at one point- no you weren't, because i do not know one single attorney that is less logical than you are. not one- and there are probably 60,0000 within 5 miles of my house. stick to fantasy and you tube- you are good at that. arguing and supporting a case- not so good. not even average. insults and drunken rants work great on message boards- not so much in court.

dear gordo- i now dub the mr. ad hominem. it is amazing. 15 shawn childs in one league, zero sum game, no way the winner comes from that league. amazing. you need to invoke george wills' law of holes- when you are already in one - stop digging.

i love all my fantasy baseball friends. however that doesn't mean some leagues/cities aren't tougher/easier.

if the numbers say NY is the easiest, i have no problem reporting that. if it says, chicago, i'll report that as well.

at times, i really wonder whether some of you live in the real world. :D

and another. i was in a league with your co host last year. he won it. childs was in it. many good players were in it. i think he had 130 points. maybe a winner in main. just can't happen i guess. or would it have to be 15 childs. i mean could it be 15 quohogs or 15 geckos? i mean if the geckos are all drafting lastings milledge wouldn't someone get lind? here is a news flash for ya- this isn't chess. it is maybe bridge and possibly gin rummy- but it isn't chess. there is " luck" involved. the good news for all of us- an "easy" league will not help you- because you are gonna take your players early.

you look at #'s and draw the wrong conlusions. and no- you are not logical. good at fantasy- but not logical. it would be just as easy to say that there are 7 from chicago at top- so chicago has the best players. neither my statement nor yours is logical. the difference is- i understand it- you don't. the other part i understand is you are not on here to find the truth. you are on here to self - promote.

Our daughter is doing an internship in Indianapolis for the next nine months. We're thinking about drafting in Chicago next March while we visit her.

There was never a thought in my mind on which venue has the best drafters. Since some Managers switch venues from year-to-year, comparing cities seems futile.

Frankly Mark, your post is every bit as relevant as Walla Walla's post about being in the best league based on what three teams are doing.
