Excellent and exceptional post.

As I said in the posting I did about inactive managers – life sometimes gets in the way of fantasy. I also drafted in Chicago and while I can not prove that the drafters in Chicago have less disposable income then NY and Vegas drafters, I will certainly say that the average income in the mid-west (flyover states) has historically been lower then their coastal counterparts. Ummm... as a 23 year-old 3 years ago doing my first NFBC I definitely spent like half of all the money I had to enter NFBC... wasn't exactly "disposable income"... the last 2 years I didn't have much more, so for me, it's win or be broke... it's added incentive for me to do well that others don't have... it drives me to not be homeless

yeah, I can like totally talk like sophisticated and stuff too though... haha
Too bad you didn't see me at the draft 3 years ago, Dan... I walked into a room full of people twice my age or more.. I'm not gonna lie, I was a little intimidated, even though I was confident. But all the people there were really great. I met a lot of great guys who I look forward to seeing there every year (Mike, Bobby J, Dave, Russel, Rich, etc). It's a really great group of people who love fantasy baseball, beer, and havin a good time.. and I can certainly relate to that! What I also love is that guys like you, Shawn Childs, Mike Diedrich, etc are willing to share your wisdom and insights with everyone because I have learned a lot by listening to you.

[/QUOTE]So I looked at last place teams in each league. Number players in starting lineups on the DL. I found two teams with a starting SP on the DL and two other teams with three starters on the DL. One in NY - last pickup 5/31 starting Colon/Downs and Beltran. One in LV starting Laporta (ok not on DL, but you get the point)along with Dice-K and Matt Harrison. The LV teams last pickup was 5/24.
I will claim that both of these leagues have a "Dead Team" and they are NOT in Orlando, Chicago or on the phone.

WOW. Boggles the odds.
They only fill 4 leagues there, yet somehow do this each year of late.

They are 4 owners who have an established track record of doing well in other leagues. I will allow myself to be humored for a second and say they have gained an advantage. Is it an advantage that explains why they are beating me? Heck no! You? Probably not.

Probably not. these leagues ARE a ZERO sum game. for someone from your league to do well, someone else has to do "not so well". to have four teams in the top 20 from the SAME league likely means there are 3 or more teams from that league who are performing so bad, it's ridiculous.
i don't have the data in front of me, so i can't verify.

i'll look at this tonight.
can someone post the bottom 3 or 4 teams from that chicago league in the overall standings, along with their ranking?

Four teams in the bottom 51.
Two in the bottom 11.
Is this data? I don't know.
It could happen to any league, anywhere.
For all I know it could be four good players who have made bad decisions, had injuries, who knows?

Out of curiosity I checked the bottom teams out in that league. Nothing led me to believe they were tanking or anything. They generally have good players having down years and/or a rash of injuries. It happens.
Kudos to the 4 doing very well in that league.

looking at the teams ranked 300-390 overall should give us some indication where the top teams are ranked.
more poor teams in a single league = more good teams. here's a look at the leagues with the most and least teams in the bottom 90 overall, along with any top finishers in the top 20.
Leagues with more "poor" teams
Las Vegas League 8 Saturday, March 21st - 6 teams in bottom 90
Main Event overall leader is from this league. Big surprise huh? Also 8th place overall is from this league
Chicago League 4 - 5 teams in bottom 90
Main Event overall 6th, 7th, 12th, 20th place is from this league.
Orlando League 2 - 5 teams in bottom 90
Main Event overall 14th place is from this league.
Phone/Online League 1 - 5 teams in bottom 90
Leagues with less "poor" teams
New York League 3 - 2 teams in bottom 90
Main Event overall 19th place is from this league.
Las Vegas League 7 - 2 teams in bottom 90
New York League 5 - 2 teams in bottom 90
Only leagues with no "poor" teams
New York League 6 - ZERO teams in bottom 90
I'm in this league. Figures.

I’m in Chicago 4. Waiting to hear how our league is the worst of all time. Of course it would be nice if such judgments could be made after the season is complete instead of at the All-Star break.
But since you are going to look at it now, I would like to see some comparisons to other leagues of questionable results. Maybe like New York league 5 from 2007 (Three teams in the top 12 overall at years end).

i think chicago is getting screwed. that team in 20th will win zero- repeat - zero $. meanwhile ny 6 with 15 average teams in their zero sum average game will have 3 teams win $. chicago is getting screwed big time.

a couple "poor" teams in a single league breeds powerhouse teams. this is true no matter what city you draft in.
the key moving forward appears to be seeing if there is a pattern to where the "poor" teams draft

Orrrr... we could look at this another way.
There are two players in NY 6 who are in the top 50. Everybody else is 100-300.
Two good players in your league and 13 mediocre players. Two good players in NY 6 guaranteed money, while Chicago 4 has someone that will finish with no money. I'd rather be a good player in NY 6.Of course, this all isn't true. To generalize the 13 players in NY 6 and call them mediocre, merely because they sit at 100-300 at the all star break is silly. But anyone can play with numbers and declare one league better or worse than another.
