Anxieties, My Arse

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon Jun 29, 2009 9:37 am

I am not a doctor or anything close. I don't know anybody with anxiety disorders...well unless you want to count each one of us after a 51 1 5 1 box score for the night.

But the precedant that is being set this year is a dangerous thing. We've had Steve Sax, Chuck Knoblauch, even Jimmy Piersall hit the dl with emotional problems in the past. The difference is that those emotional problems carried out to the field of play.

I am not going to pick on Joey Votto. He gets a pass, his case was not of anxiety as much as it was depression over his father passing away.

Khalil Greene, a different story. He is thought to be going on the dl for a second time for anxiety disorder that was brought on by an 0-16 week... Brought on by an 0-16 week!!! Dick Vermiel would say it was time to take the diaper off! Khalil Greene says it's time to go on the dl.

How the Cardinals handle this may have large implications. Milton Bradley is a walking anxiety disorder. He and other players may have to take time away from the game to get over whatever it is that they are getting over.

Not knowing the Greene case from the inside makes it tough, but sending him down to A ball with a sports psychiatrist seems a better solution. He won't have to rehab again and maybe he can build some self-confidence.

Of course, to we, the common fan, most of us are just thinking, "C'mon, you pusssy, get back on the field and play!" And rightfully so. If we had an 0-16 performance at work and wanted time off to deal, well, the look on the boss's face would be pretty damn funny.

As for me, I had Khalil Greene on one of my fantasy teams this week. I'll be checking to see if I am eligible for some kind of workman's comp for the anxiety disorder that Greene gave me this week.

I don't know...there might be something to this. Below is a picture of Greene Sunday night leaving the stadium. Man, they really need to upgrade the locker rooms at Busch...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Fixing the Grand Canyon size hole in his swing would cure it in a second.
