We have now officially reached the mid-season point of the NFBC season, 13 weeks in the books, 13 weeks to go. While the standings will continue to change for the last half of the season, it's interesting to look at where we are now and draw some early conclusions. I went through the Top 25 teams in the overall standings of the main event and came up with the following data:
Top 25 Teams, Main Event:
13 of the 15 spots are represented in the Top 25. Only Nos. 9 and 15 don't have a team in the Top 25. Teams in the Top 25 that drafted from each spot include:
No. 1 - 3 teams
No. 2 - 4 teams
No. 3 - 2 teams
No. 4 - 3 teams
No. 5 - 1 team
No. 6 - 3 teams
No. 7 - 1 team
No. 8 - 1 team
No. 9 - 0 teams
No. 10 - 1 team
No. 11 - 3 teams
No. 12 - 1 team
No. 13 - 1 team
No. 14 - 1 team
No. 15 - 0 teams
1-5: 13 teams
6-10: 6 teams
11-15: 6 teams
Albert Pujols leads the way among the Top 25's first round picks, but it really is across the board. Players picked first by Top 25 teams include:
Albert Pujols: 5 times
Hanley Ramirez: 4 times
Ian Kinsler: 2 times
David Wright: 2 times
Ryan Braun: 2 times
Grady Sizemore: 2 times
Mark Teixeira: 1
Chase Utley: 1
B.J. Upton: 1
Miguel Cabrera: 1
Ryan Howard: 1
Jimmy Rollins: 1
Carlos Beltran: 1
Jose Reyes: 1
Teams in the Top 25 and where they drafted from include:
Las Vegas: 10 teams
Chicago: 8 teams
New York: 3 teams
Orlando: 2 teams
Phone/Online: 2 teams
Thoughts?

Greg,
if it's not too much trouble, do you have any data from the last couple years on what draft spot the top 25 teams drafted from?
I'll also do a search if it's been posted on a past thread.
thanks

time for 3RR? [/QUOTE]I think you know me well enough by now that I don't rush into any major decisions, but if I think a rule change will help the competitive balance I'll consider it. I really like KDS/3RR in football and right now we have as many folks picking 14 as their first preference as 1 in the NFFC. 3RR has changed the dynamics of our football game, and combining it with KDS most folks are getting one of their Top 4 preferences.
But baseball is different and each year is totally different. While I think the combination of KDS/3RR would make things more interesting in baseball and I wouldn't ever rule it out, I'd have to say that the data hasn't overwhelmingly supported the need for it. Last year was as balanced as they come and the back end won as much as the front end.

Where Did The Top 25 Teams Draft In 2009?
Not to jinx anyone, but it's interesting to note that only two players have won three league titles during our first five seasons. They are Shawn Childs and Stephen Jupinka and both our fighting for fourth titles now.
Childs currently leads Las Vegas League 1 and is 16th overall after fighting back from a slow finish. He's back in the hunt for a league title and the overall title after previously finishing 3rd, 3rd and 5th overall.
Jupinka is currently fourth in New York 7 and 107th overall. He's certainly within reach of a league title and has already finished 2nd, 10th, 18th and 35th overall.
Good luck guys down the stretch and we'll learn at season's end if anyone else can join you with three league titles.

Where Did The Top 25 Teams Draft In 2009?
There are still two weeks left in the NFBC regular season, so it's not fair to draw any conclusions on draft spot preference this year. But what the heck, it's fun to look at numbers and I'll look at the data today and then update this in two weeks.
All I'm looking at today is the Top 25 overall as of this morning. At season's end, we'll analyze the league champs and where they drafted as well. But once again it sure looks like a nice balance of top teams from all different positions, meaning that you can win from any spot in the NFBC.
Okay, as of today 13 of the 15 draft spots are represented in the Top 25 overall and no spot is overwhelming dominant, just like no position is overwhelmingly dominant. Surprisingly, even no individual player is dominant as only three of the Top 25 teams got Albert Pujols in the first round. I would have expected more top teams with Pujols this year. Three Top 25 teams also have Hanley Ramirez.
Okay, here are the draft spots of the Top 25 teams today:
No. 1: 1 team
No. 2: 1 team
No. 3: 2 teams
No. 4: 4 teams
No. 5: 2 teams
No. 6: 0 teams
No. 7: 0 teams
No. 8: 3 teams
No. 9: 2 teams
No. 10: 2 teams
No. 11: 2 teams
No. 12: 1 team
No. 13: 2 teams
No. 14: 2 teams
No. 15: 1 team
Top draft picks leading the way include:
Albert Pujols: 3 teams
Hanley Ramirez: 3 teams
Chase Utley: 3 teams
Mark Teixeira: 2 teams
David Wright: 2 teams
Miguel Cabrera: 2 teams
Ryan Braun: 2 teams
Teams 1-3: 4 teams
Teams 4-6: 6 teams
Teams 7-9: 5 teams
Teams 10-12: 5 teams
Teams 13-15: 5 teams
Very, very interesting so far. Good luck all down the stretch.
